Try doing this in Mexico City. It perfectly common to get out of a bar late at night, cross 6 lanes of traffic (drivers do not care for pedestrians there, at all - especially buses), all while drunk, in the dark, vehicles going at whatever speed they please, changing lanes at the drop of a hat, and stop lights are usually only suggestions at night.
