Popular tunes which are translated often change the whole meaning of the original.
Many of the traditional tunes are based on local traditions and customs that are meaningless to other cultures. It's for commercial purposes -understandably- that they internationalize the lyrics, otherwise they would sell few records. Scholars who wish to get the original flavour should first learn the language and study the local history.

I love Mario Lanza, and I love his words at the beginning of the forecast. But...the lyrics they made up for this jewel of composition from Maestro Ernesto Lecuona is really shameful and dimishing of such a marvel of a song. These lyrics hace absolutely nothing in common with the song written by Lecuona, except for the word Siboney.
Does it really matter what lyrics Mario sings ? his voice was un-comparable... simply the great tenor voice ever.
