Can you please tell me what sounds you're using on it or how you customized them if you did at all? I'm thinking of buying this behemoth of a mini synthesizer soon!
I never like factory presets as they are though Micron actually came with few that I'm still keeping! For example, if you want this kind of bass, use simple pad type preset, shave down all effects, fm mod etc except for 4 or 8 pole filter, add no more than 25% analog drift and play few octaves lower, get the envelope right. Tweak until old school enough. It's useful not to use any effects for base patch as in multimode you won't have them or not to the same extent.
@rincewind801 Thanks for the insight. I think the coolest sound you're getting that I'm most interested in would have to be the one that kicks in or becomes noticeable around at 1:40 when you adjust the mod/slider bar lol whatever. Whatever layer that is that became noticeable has to be one of the most unique things I've heard come from a keyboard. It's beautiful. I have the Roland SH-201 and have had it forever and I love it to death but I'm looking for something new and LOVE micron so far!
This is still my favourite. Really it's one of the videos which compelled me to buy an Alesis Micron a few years ago. I come back to listen to it every now and then. I try to make my own Micron music, you can see them on my channel, but somehow it just doesn't turn out as good. Maybe some day you can do an instructional video on how you compose your music? That would be insightful.
this is brilliant! since i first saw this video i wanted a micron so i can do things like this :) do you think € 250,- (about 360 USD) would be a good deal for a used one? check out my channel too! cheers
@xbinaryx Thx! Probably not the worst deal but check the main volume on low frequencies and selector knob as these two like to break. Happy synthesizing!
The miniak actually has the same synth engine as the micron. The miniak has a mic though and the controls are worked out a bit better, imho. On the micron the volume button is too close to the sliders and i like the miniak's mod wheels instead of sliders. And the pitch wheel is in a weird position on the micron, that takes getting used to. i own a micron, but i recently played around with a miniak and liked it a lot. But the micron is still a great little synth.
I prefer micron's layout - your left hand has quick access to controls which you can manipulate while holding note or two, very useful when you assign pitch mod to specific part(s) in setup mode. Although if miniak had pattern sequencing mpc-like then it would be a killer.
@cardinalvincent agreed, however for the price difference I don't see enough advantage over the micron. but anyway, I went ahead and bought one and I'm really enjoying it!
i will not know untill micron arrives to me, but i clearly hear that it will take a lot of arp patterns. the main thing though is fast random panning L-R-L-R imho
hey i have a question man, im buying an alesis really soon, now.. what exactly do i need to do to record the sounds into a program like Ableton or fruity loops. not as a controller to use those program's sounds but to actually like be able to record ya know?
Children of Micron is still my favorite of all, just something about it, specially that sweeping note using the pitch wheel at 2:36, you could practically build an entire song on that sound... still wishing the piece was at least twice as long :) maybe when you get to the end, revert back to 0.16, let the drums continue, then go through the entire piece again... please don't take this as criticism, your work is awesome, it's more of a wishful request ;)
this thing rocks! I like those beat and the layers! I've the Ion that thing is one sick VA synth the emulates the nicest synths ever made. For everyone that don't know what the Ion is, it's the bigger brother of the micron with the same sounds (some not) and it has more knobs like on a real analog synth! Nice song BTW! +5
hi guys i need serious help ok our band isnt sure what synth to get for this kind of price we've been considering the korg microkorg xl but because we play alternative music is it a bit heavy ahhhhhhhhhhhhh someone help us lol.
Micron is much better in terms of sequencing and live performance while MicroKorg XL has slightly grittier sound but small keys and no sequencer also lacks drummaps.
Micron is pretty much unlimited and designed for playing live.
The micron is great! I cant stop jamming on mine, even though I still havent used patterns or setups at all yet, just played around with individual programs. Nice to see what can be done when you get deeper into it.
great interpretation of the original! Loved it! 5*
I just bought a micron the other day. I think its a great synth for flat out jamming and creating "rough drafts" of full songs. This makes me so happy to see what the micron can do. I have a feeling we are just now starting to push the micron to see what it can really do.
i don't get it - are you saying he's lying? the micron was made exactly for this type of music, as long as one doesn't play more than 8 voices at a time, this is what you can do. it's an awesome little thing. my review: well done!
I wasn't sayin that he hasn't done a good job and also sorry if I missworded it but I was wondering if he was even actually using the cables at all. Yes by the way I do know that this is the type of music it's made for as I've got one.
wow, very nice i like this :)

That was the same bass sound (or arpeggio of it) with different filter settings, slider does the frequency sweep.
I'm sure you'll be surprised with what this synth can do.

@rincewind801 I'm sure. Thanks.

I know you can assign any parameters to the sliders, but what about the knobs?
G8tr1522 9 months ago
@G8tr1522 You can assign a lot more to knobs than sliders, they're fully customizable.
rincewind801 9 months ago
@rincewind801 And what about the pitch wheel? can it be assigned as well?
G8tr1522 9 months ago
@G8tr1522 Unfortunately pitch only, though you can edit few related parameters and it glows when in use.
The only downside to micron I found so far is that volume knob starts to crackle after a while, apparently happens to everyone at some point.
rincewind801 9 months ago
@rincewind801 Ah. Thats no problem though. I'm getting a volume pedal soon anyways. Thanks!

But on the miniak, the volume knob is right next to the control knob, so that's not really an improvement ;-)

You probably want decent ASIO soundcard and a cable with phono jacks on one end and stereo mini jack on the other

i have some questions. how hard is this to get used to?
is it easy to save sounds and get to them easily as well?
what kind of sustainer pedal should i buy that works with this?
what would i have to buy so i could hook it up to an amp?
yousuckcorp 2 years ago
It's a little bit obscure at first but in the end no more difficult than using mobile.
Very easy to edit/mod/save patches, patterns, arpegios and drum tracks, friendly interface
Not using sustain pedal so wouldn't know.
Depends on what kind of amp you have but mono/stereo phono jack cable should be fine.
