I showed this to my mother who commented "...isn't this song from Gypsy?" (it is...well, without the mentions of a video store and yes the original is just as off-key). Love it!
I usually dislike reposting a quote that is so obviously delivered in the video and unnecessary to post, but the line where he says, "I'm Anne Morrow Lindbergh, I can't find my baby!' kills me every time. Not an obvious joke to a causal viewer... (do those exist in Gilliam films?)
I adore every second of Michael Jeter in The Fisher King!!! From ''I'm Anne Morrow Lindbergh, I can't find my baby" to "Venice! Like Katherine Hepburn on Summer Time!''
Watch his performance in this and follow with the Kevin Costner western "Open Range" and see how vast his range was! (his finest moment in this for me is his commenting on all the AIDS deaths while in Jeff Bridges' lap in the ER.)
Absolutely, without a doubt one of the most hilarious moments ever captured on film. Michael Jeter!!!! AMAZING!!! I LOVE YOU BUDDY!!!!! Oh man, I gotta play that again.
when I was watching this movie in the theatre when it first came out, I was becoming rapidly bored with it. then Michael Jeter does this number and I was litterally in tears laughing right there in the theatre...damn what a way to turn a movie around!! Michael will be sorely missed!!!
God needed an amusing angel, someone brilliant, to entertain Him. Having created the entire universe, He knew what to expect from most creatures - but He never knew what was going to come out of that 5'4", 120 lbs of pure, unfiltered genius. Who else can make us laugh and cry - often at the same time?
God knows a Talent when He sees one, and so He had to have him... (Anyone who ever worked with Micheal knows exactly what I mean; if I was God, I'd have him over for dinner every night too...)
This is one of the GREAT performances on film by one of the great comic/dramatic actors of our time. Michael Jeter: you are so very much missed in this world.
I loved this movie when I first saw it in 91 I was 29 years old, I now am 45 and it still is a favorite. At age 43 I became a mom for the first time, and although I have loved Micheal Jeeter's comic and dramtic brilliance. I had no Idea he was a semi regular on SESAME STREET til this past few months. Kids today can see him as Mr. Nooodle's brother Mr. Noodle on Elmo's world.
I'm tierd hope I make sense, and if not so what LOL
In deed!! Best movie ever made in my opinion and best performance by each and every actor that was cast in this move. Amanda was great and Michael absolutely adorable..remember the scene "I wanna by katherine hepburn"? hilarious
Michael Jeter told a great story about this scene. Originally he was to sing a parody of WILKOMMEN but Jeter refused, saying "no self respecting deranged drag queen wants to be Joel Grey! They want to be Merman!" The filmmakers weren't able to get the rights to GYPSY, though, but Jeter ran into Jule Styne at a party and as you see in this scene, he can be persuasive.
And he was totally right: it works a thousand times better than Wilkommen would have.
You have to read this!! you won't believe it!!! don't stop now!! make a wish - - - - - - - . . . . . Now that you have your wish it will happen! in exclatly 4 days. just copy this and paste it to 4 videos!! only one wish use it wisely and it WILL HAPPEN!!! but if you break the chain your wish will be the opposite
Only 90 pounds dripping wet and a voice that rocks the rafters, Michael Jeter literally stole the movie from Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams! Way to go, Mr. Noodle.
I showed this to my mother who commented "...isn't this song from Gypsy?" (it is...well, without the mentions of a video store and yes the original is just as off-key). Love it!

I love that he sings it 3 keys higher than it written for the woman (Ethel Merman) who originally sang this song.
