Honestly Tubajug, I would disable the comments if I were you. I strongly suspect that most of these youtube know-it-none's are simply jealous because you got the oppurtunity to play the Toccata and Fugue on the Tabernacle organ, and can play more than one instrument, which is more than most people can say. If you want to be an organist, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The below comments are the reasons I never upload anything on youtube, even though I am considered a competent organist.
That sounded like the Toccata in D Minor you played there. If you can play that all the way through, you're a skilled organist and I don't care what they say!
@AdmRomulus Its a good thing organ rep doesn't begin and end with the over baked tocacata and fugue - a piece believed to be written for the violin and probably arranged for organ by a student of JSBach. So much better organ music in the world... In any case it was nice of Bonnie to let someone approach the holy altar of music in the MoTab.
@AdmRomulus Are you are personal friend or something? If you knew anything of Bach's organ works, which I do, having a degree in organ performance, you would know this is NOT Bach's master piece. Just because its popular or accessible enough for anyone with a modicum of ability to play doesn't make it a masterpiece. In any case it is a nice moment to be able to play anything at the MoTab while it is an odd environment for the organ and organist. Ya don't need to defensive for others
Thank you for those kind words. For the information of all, I'm in my 20's and had only been playing organ for a few months when the opportunity to play the Tabernacle Organ came along. It was the chance of a lifetime, so I took it. My main instrument is the tuba.
thats really good if espc. since you only been playing for a few months. i play trumpet and have always wanted to learn the organ. I have a passion for it.
I did. You can change it on the Conference Center Organ. The consoles are literaly the same (despite the fact they have diff. stops) I actually got to play the Conf Cent. Organ.
@Tubajug How did the opportunity come about? Im 15 and I have just been offered the opportunity to play the organ in 1654 Bruton Parish Church in Colonial Williamsburg, VA. I have always dreamed of playing the organ at the Tabernacle or even at the Conference Center!
We should be saying what a great musician this young person in the video is rather than mocking him for his lousy performance. He'd make a better organist than the rest of you pinheads give him credit for.
Wow,I would give anything to be able to play the tabernacle organ,I mean, its rich history, its size,etc..Consider yourself lucky! And,even as a beginner,I think you played great! Thanks for adding this video!
no, the bass coupler links the pedal to the lowest note played on the any of the keyboards. It chooses the lowest one. It is an optional feature on all organs.
Sorry if I offended you. I didn't realize that you were a beginner. It's very rare to see anything but the best of the best playing that organ so I was was rather surprised when I heard your level of playing on the Tabernacle organ. For a few months practice you did rather well. I thought you were passing yourself off as a pro. Keep up the practice and in a few years you may be able to play there on a professional level.
I'm sorry I'm not a perfect organist. I just started taking lessons a few months ago. This was an absolute dream to even touch the Tabernacle Organ, let alone play it for a few minutes. I just went up after a recital and talked to the organist (Bonnie Goodliffe) and she let me sit down for a few minutes.
Its a shame the audio quality isnt there. It would also help if they had a better person playing. The Tabernacle organ is awsome and deserves better:-(
I refer you to the comment I posted, but for your information, it was recorded only on my digital camera, I'm not a perfect organist, and it was a dream of mine to play the organ, so nuts to you for not having "a better person playing."
@Tubajug You are too polite, Tubajug. I would have told foxacoustics, in plain country language, to go put his head where the sun don't shine and leave it there. What a pompous prat.
You were accorded the same courtesy by Bonnie Goodliffe that Daniel Roth extends to suitably able players at St Sulpice, that is, a memory to be cherished.
@peteacher52 Mr. Roth is indeed a gentleman, but he also presides over one of the many important historic organs of the world. I'm not sure I would consider the Tabernacle on the same footing of musical importance, even pre-Schoenstein. No great literature for the instrument has come from the LDS church - sadly despite some show piece organs, its not part of the culture or worship style.

Do you use bass coupler?
tguodong 4 years ago
No bass coupler on Tabernacle Organ. I am pretty sure that is only on Allen Organs.
AllenJBlodgettJrmota 3 years ago
i guess thats the the thing that makes the bass on the organs have more "force" or "gut" right?
signfid376 3 years ago
the bigger the pipe and pressure, the lower the sound. for example most pedal pipes are 16' with the occasional 32' pipes.
AllenOrganCrazy 3 years ago
no, the bass coupler links the pedal to the lowest note played on the any of the keyboards. It chooses the lowest one. It is an optional feature on all organs.

No, it's not.
contratromba858 2 years ago
@AllenJBlodgettJrmota You have to be a "real organist" to play the AeolianSkinner. Not just a keyboardist with a bass coupler.
