What specifically that I do, that PCs are too stretched to do, is not important? Cordons; h-2-h; hi-viz patrol; crime reports; ASB; parking tickets (outside schools, endangering kids); community meetings; setting up nhd watch; gaining information on where drug dealers live (my info has lead to warrants on addresses and arrests..). Our PCSO do this and more.

Recently, in my local area, there has been a swoop! I learned of this in the local paper... 300 homes were called upon by police officers, for non payment of fines, no tv licence, council tax etc... Now if they believed you were hiding indoors, they would force entry! You then have a choice, pay up, or get sent to court and possibly prison!... @snaz27 Aaawwww - thanks for the sympathy, despite its misplacement. FYI I passed all the police assessments to become a constable, and became a constable, but switched to the PCSO role as it suited my family situation. I'll probably switch back when my kids are older.

I liked this in the same way I liked the programme 'Teachers' when I was one. (Fully qualified BTW, so I am educated - with a BSc). Despite knowing a few idiots would think its really like that the surreal humour amuses me.

Also bear in mind the reduced numbers of firemarms owners in britian, as well as extremely tight gun control laws and there is by and large no actual reason for police officers to carry firearms. That said, if a gun related incident does take place a constubale can call for an armed response team equipped with military level body armor and firepower.

The reason that PCSO's are a fraction of the cost of real Police Officers is down to the training. Police Officers are fully trained whereas the cheaper PCSO gets less training. The proper term for PCSO is Plastic Police Officer.
