  • the dvd's have both themes

  • Had no idea there was another theme, Netflix always plays the one that is apparently the "UK" version.

  • I really get a feeling of desperation and vast empty space from this song. It's the best BSG intro song in the whole frakkin' universe.

  • When I hear this, I imagine seeing Galactica going by with the Colonial fleet in some epic way.

btw, why was there 2 main title themes?

  • i dont see how theres a uk and us version. wasnt this used in another season and the uk one used in season one? because ive watched BSG from a U.S website and it played the UK song (even wen to other sites to be sure).

  • @plasm2 This theme was used in Season 1 and the new theme (the Hindu prayer) was used in Seasons 2-4 I think.

  • I much prefer this theme to the one used in later seasons.

  • Is there a longer version of this?

  • @sixgun75

    hope not

  • was this like an intro? or just a music theme, because ive been looking for the US intro for ages, doesnt seems to exist

  • @ymatheys This was the intro for Season 1 in the US. After Season 1, the intro was changed to the international version which is labeled "Battlestar Galactica - Main Title". That is probably the version you are thinking of.

  • @RelentlessStruggle where can i find the season 1 US intro then? not just the music, the whole thing

  • lets be honest here, the US one sucks, the other is amazing

  • @spartandud3 Are you high? The US intro is so amazing. The militaristic feel of it. The other version sounds like a memorial. The US version sounds like a war cry

  • @Ghats212 thats why it sucks

  • @spartandud3 Care to explain that at all?

  • @RealDougal yh i didnt like it, but i thought the other one was good

  • @spartandud3 Yeah I got that, but I was just wondering "why" you don't like it. It just seems like you put a lot of emphasis on not liking it because it sounds a little bit like a war cry.

  • @RealDougal yh, while the show has a military setting and so it does kinda fit, i feel that it puts too much emphasis on the war aspect of it and to me comes off a bit bland where as the other one focuses more on the emotion rather than action, imo

  • @spartandud3 Fair enough. I understand your opinion well. Personally, I love both themes in equal measure, but to each his own. So say we all.

  • @spartandud3 1 season of the UK theme was enough, thanks. 3 REALLY pushed it...

  • why is one theme for US and one for the others?

  • I prefer the UK version, which i believe became the US version also after season 2. It has more emotion and depth as opposed to this slightly corny military intro.

  • This theme always gave me a sadder feel, which fit with the show because of all the tragedy of the human race almost being extinct and such. I wish they'd kept this theme through the whole thing.

  • @dremoraman1 Me too...I thought they should have kept the other one for the Kobol-related episodes only. It fit there. :3

  • I prefer this version. It seems to fit the series better, IMO.

  • This is my favourite theme of the two.

  • The beat of the drums makes my heart ache every time.

  • Both themes were good but this was always my favorite one! Something about it just felt more in line with the show!

  • @Seaclam67 This was not the theme for the show in Britain - where it was first shown - in Britain and Europe it was the gayatri mantra - search BSG UK theme. You may not like that either, very different from the original. Do remember, the new version is more of a drama with a scifi back-drop rather than a traditional scifi show. Not to everyone's taste.

  • I always looked away from the TV when the fast drums started to play. Didn't want the spoilers ;)

  • @strutnoodle

    Me, too!

  • @Seaclam67 Well, the theme makes much more sense if you've seen the show. THe show is very different from it's 1970s counterpart. It's not corny or as Sci-Fi as most space operas. I was hesitant to even watch it when my friend told me about it.

I would really consider watching the Miniseries from 2003.

The music is very much influenced by the middle east and tribal music, while most space operas go for the classical or epic sound.

At least check it out before you bash it. I was surprised!

  • On the Subject , I agree with tonysoprano197777 , I do however prefer the world/Uk/second season version, doesnt mean one shouldnt have variations.

I would have liked a new one for each season :)

  • @Seaclam67 At first I was gonna type something about how bad taste you have , but then i noticed that you havent even seen a singel episode (I take it, spelling?) and there for has no understanding of exceptionally well the music fits with whats happening on the screen and the progess of the story. and watching your space I understand that its hard for fanboys, of the old series, to appreciate anything "remaking" of your loved series, give this new series a try first, or go wank somewhere else!

  • I prefere the UK one, this does sound good though

  • This music was what the intro was edited for and I was really upset that they changed it.

  • @decidedvoter08 Oh same here!!! This one fits SO SO SOOOOOO much better to the series than the other wailing banshees one

  • @callofdutyguy9 Both Star Wars and Starship Troopers are retarded compared to Battlestar. Plus your name is callofdutyguy9, so I can't take anything you say seriously, and I can't understand what your saying through the hot load of George Lucas cum in your mouth anyway.

  • @blimeyfuck2112 haven't seen starship troopers but the original star wars trilogy is excelent(episode I,II and III is rubish)

  • @blimeyfuck2112 They're different genres. SST and SW are action and AMERICA FUCK YEAH style, and BSG is mysticism drama-survival... on a space fleet. weird huh?

  • warum andere mucke? :D

  • I kinda prefer the US version, because it sounds more epic

  • I miss it too. Getting the BLu Ray boxed set, the Uk version as I live in the UK. I debated for a long time to buy it, as its very expensive, however i couldnt wait any longer. Soon V the first series will be finished and there wil be nothing to watch.

What do you all think of V, personally I find it spectacular.

  • this is on the menu for my BSG seasons 1-3 then for the actual episodes its the UK version

  • I prefer the UK/european version by far. It has so much sadness in the beginning, like the series after the destruction of the colonies, and then comes the fighting spirit. Almost uplifting in the end.

  • My favorite version of the theme.

  • Thanks for posting this. I love this version just as much as the UK version. Both are good in their own right!

  • i always liked this one better. Its just been so long that I do feel like the newer version is the right one for the job

  • personally i think that the UK main theme sounds better for the intro

  • i *LOVE* this theme! very military-ish and melancholy. captures the dark mood of the show perfectly!!

  • this is THE BSG theme.

  • @sasseriansection Actually, there are two versions of the theme

  • Not really, it was only featured in Season 1, and ONLY in the US. The main theme or every single other season in US and for all seasons in every other country in the world, is THE BSG theme. Its fact.

  • I believe he/she meant that this is the best theme of the show, aka the one that best embodies the entire series, therefore being THE theme that should have been prevalent throughout the entire series. Please correct me if I'm wrong sasseri

  • To be fair, there both very powerfull themes. I like both versions.

    God I miss this show.

  • i like this theme myself.i really like the drums playing in a military beat, since the show is in a military setting

  • @mturnerr11 I hate these cheesy BS wanna be star Wars/starship troopers tv shows, with gay actors and females in combat roles with unrealistically large amounts of talent

  • @callofdutyguy9 Let me guess... Your name is Grumpy? :)

  • @callofdutyguy9 Hah. do you really think they 'wanna be' bsg? they are different series, like i said in the other comment. BSG strives for 'deep' plot and a lot of soap opera drama and mysticism, while other 2 strive for a fun ride. You can't compare them. Some people like and want one, while others want the other.

What is better - hammer or a screw-driver?

    Microwave oven or a toilet?

    a car or a chimney?

  • @mturnerr11 so do i but i prefer the hopeful feeling you get when listening to the second theme used.

  • I remember how sad this intro was when BSG first started back in 2005, if memory serves. I was particularly fitting in that on Sci-Fi Friday's BSG came after Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis and this theme set an entirely different mood from the two preceding shows.

I was sad to see it go, but apparently the theme was only ever heard by US Audiences for Season 1; why this is the case I do not know, most everyone else is fond of the alternative.

  • I vastly prefer this theme to the one found in the other seasons.. I wish they would've kept it. Haunting, spiritual score. Very primal and human, wich fits the tone of the show perfectly.

  • I couldn't agree more; this one is leagues above the other one. I was super disappointed when they changed it. I used to shout at everyone to shut up when this came on every time.

  • I agree as well very disappointed when they changed it. The new one was good but I always hoped they put this one again.

  • heres what kill the UK version...

they are using an ancient (3000 year old) instrument in the US one called the DUDUK (armenian instrument)...the sound that it makes is just pure perfection...very haunting and deep

  • L-O-L ! Duduk or douduk is not an armenian instrument, a LOT of countries use it from ancient times.

  • please stop yourself next time from making uneducated ignorant comments...

the duduk was made in the Caucasus region...(currently armenia, georgia and unfortunately azerbaijan) the earliest duduks found are in armenia...

other countries have what is similar to the armenian duduk...but not the same...

  • Sorry for being "ignorant" and "uneducated" but many countries had their "douduk" which were very similiar to one another, but of course not entirely the same.

As an example Bulgaria which was found in 681 had folklore songs which inluded the douduk long before that time.

P.S.Being bashful over an non hostile comment dosen't make you a person of science either... best regads.

  • when this song ends,i'm waiting to hear:

    "Previously,on battlestar Galactica..."

  • I like both versions, but I'm a real fan of the minimalism in this version. There are two major features I like of each:

In this, the dull pounding of the drums strongly reminds me of the muffled sound effects used for explosions and missiles and the like. In that respect and others, it just seems to personify the show better.

On the other hand, the choral song fits so much better with the "47,874 survivors in search of a home...called Earth", and I wouldn't want to do away with that.

  • Can't we love both versions - I sure do!!!

  • ditto

  • US version is awesome. Probably the mood I'd be in if the Cylons just wiped out my solar system, and I was a survivor. Just empty feeling. Don't know why they stopped using it for other seasons.

  • naah,i like this one,its legendary

  • Yep, I liked it--haunting and sad at the beginning.

  • This is so much better than the intro from seasons 2-4. It has a haunting feel to it, and while I do like the other intro this one just seems to fit the show better. At least that's my opinion.

  • You're exactly right.

  • True, all the way. I wanna get it as a MP 3 file for my ring-tone but I have no idea where and how to look for :\

  • This version is the better one. The snare drum from 00:10 to 00:30 gives it that militaristic feel that the show always strived to be. A science fiction military drama.

  • i much prefer the other version, its sadder

  • I like this version a lot better than the other one

  • i dont like all that rat a tat tat bullshit at the start it dont sound right i pefer the uk version

  • This opening theme is perfect. That major chord resolution comes out of nowhere, and for me, it's perfectly representative of the feel of the series - pulling the goodness out of a big, dark mess. Just perfect.

  • Have to say I like this version much better. The opening melody (what is that instrument?) is so raw and sad. The "woldwide version" by contrast feels more distanced. I think I imagine it more like a song of remembrance that might be sung years later.

The percussion part is one of those things that by itself put BSG miles ahead of the competition.

  • Loved this version. I always choke up at the part where you see Roslin taking the oath of office. The percussion's a little weaker than the second opening, but that's ok.

  • Sorry didnt like the U.S opening score, for me the U.K opening score has more emotion and feel to it.

  • this is the first time i've heard this version......Haunting.

Reminds me of Graeme Revell and "the Crow"

  • This was a much better intro than the one used in seasons 2-4. More haunting.

  • This is a really good piece but I just love the vocals in the other version so damn much.

  • ;ooioo

  • I prefer this version. The opening used from Season 2 and on doesn't do much for me, this seems to fit the tragic background more.

  • Yeah for my money this seesm more menacing and deep. It's like a warning of what's coming up. Must be why I prefer it.

  • I prefer this version, it just feels like there coming out of tragedy so much more.

  • I actually really enjoy this title better to be honest. :)

  • I didn't realise there were different versions. I think I prefer the UK version, though.

  • i like the UK version better. it seems alot ...deeper if thats the right word x

  • I like this title better than the other one. I do wish they would at least change up the title sequence some, not that it matters, seeing as there are two episodes left. I get really tired of watching Caprica Six get blown up over, and over and over again, though.

  • you can never tire watching a Six get blown!

  • I think you're right, thanks!

  • Anyone know what pipes/flute is being used in this version? Sounds like the Irish Uilleann pipes but not quite.

  • If I'm not mistaken, that's a Duduk.
