Finally, U.S. aid to Israel is roughly 3 billion dollars annually. This is roughly 1.2% of Israel's GDP. In what sense does the IDF depend on U.S. aid when U.S. aid is 6% of their military budget?
Israels military budget is $13b so $3b is 23% not including special joint projects. They also have all the latest US hardware which gives them total dominance. A country with a GDP of $29k per person should not be entitled to aid from anyone. There are many people in the US who would love to earn $29k/year. It must be really annoying when people have the audacity to try to get their stolen land back..
@alcraig You are right, I was looking at the wrong figure, but still that is 1.2% of Israel's GDP. My point is just that Israel doesn't completely depend on U.S. aid. But I would argue that it is a good investment still since this aid and this strategic relationship keeps Israel from doing something crazy everytime the right wingers in Likud comes to power. Besides, I don't think it is much more aid then we give to Egypt for example so I just don't get why everyone is hung up on Israeli aid.

@alcraig You are right, I was looking at the wrong figure, but still that is 1.2% of Israel's GDP. My point is just that Israel doesn't completely depend on U.S. aid. But I would argue that it is a good investment still since this aid and this strategic relationship keeps Israel from doing something crazy everytime the right wingers in Likud comes to power. Besides, I don't think it is much more aid then we give to Egypt for example so I just don't get why everyone is hung up on Israeli aid.
