Everyone needs money, but the fact is if money meant giving green paper to people everyone would be rich. If the stimulus were divided equally amongst every American, nobody would be any richer.
Correct. Let's describe two scenarios. In one scenario, the government taxes its citizens' for a total of 787 billion dollars. The government is now up 787b, the country as a whole is down 787b. It redistributes the 787b into the economy. Now we're back to where we started. In the other scenario, the government borrows 787b and distributes it to its citizens. In a closed economy, prices go up by whatever % 787b adds to GDP per capita. Nobody is any richer.
Basically the misguided belief in the stimulus is half genuine belief in Keynesian economics - that individual consumers act rationally when faced with a recession and save money, yet when every individual acts this way it turns a recession into an exaggerated depression (paradox of thrift). Half is the way GDP is calculated - gov't expenditure is part of what is added to get GDP, so we can see definite results (GDP is up x%!) by simply borrowing and spending money.
If any of you were informed rather than mindless drones believing whatever you were told by biased reporters, you would know that only three industries have grown over the past year, health, education, and GOVERNMENT! So get some facts before you start running your mouth.

It's important to remember though that the money used in the stimulus was money that has already been taxed out of the economy, gone to the government, and then some of it is given back. It's nice when you get it back, but I can't imagine you get more than 75% back. A republican might "no" to force the budget lower so that it couldn't be taxed out next year

The Republican gov. will often veto a bill, but the Dem legislature overrides it. The Dems are in bed with the unions and they tend to spend too much on entitlements. CA and RI both have terrible deficits. I won't be surprised if one of them goes bankrupt.

God, where do you idiots get your bullshit. The Tax Foundation (hardly a liberal site), has Federal Taxes paid vs. Federal Taxes Received for each state from 1981 through 2005. IL has consistently been a donor state (which probably explains it's current situation).
In 2005, IL paid 99.7 Billion in Federal Taxes, but only received 80.7 Billion in Federal spending. Which means it donated 19 Billion to welfare states like MS and Alaska.

Correct. Let's describe two scenarios. In one scenario, the government taxes its citizens' for a total of 787 billion dollars. The government is now up 787b, the country as a whole is down 787b. It redistributes the 787b into the economy. Now we're back to where we started. In the other scenario, the government borrows 787b and distributes it to its citizens. In a closed economy, prices go up by whatever % 787b adds to GDP per capita. Nobody is any richer.

Basically the misguided belief in the stimulus is half genuine belief in Keynesian economics - that individual consumers act rationally when faced with a recession and save money, yet when every individual acts this way it turns a recession into an exaggerated depression (paradox of thrift). Half is the way GDP is calculated - gov't expenditure is part of what is added to get GDP, so we can see definite results (GDP is up x%!) by simply borrowing and spending money.

It's important to remember though that the money used in the stimulus was money that has already been taxed out of the economy, gone to the government, and then some of it is given back. It's nice when you get it back, but I can't imagine you get more than 75% back. A republican might "no" to force the budget lower so that it couldn't be taxed out next year

The Republican gov. will often veto a bill, but the Dem legislature overrides it. The Dems are in bed with the unions and they tend to spend too much on entitlements. CA and RI both have terrible deficits. I won't be surprised if one of them goes bankrupt.

You love your ignorance don't you? Do you realize that, with the exception of Texas, most red states get more in federal money than they pay out in federal taxes? Do you realize that it's the blue states (NY, CA, IL, MA) that are losing federal money to these red states? What do you think would happen to Mississippi if they didn't received that federal money?

You must be ignorant as hell. California and IL are the largest welfare states. LA is the largest welfare city, followed closely by Obama's own Chicago. So again, don't try to tell me what I'd want as a Republican. I'd want to keep my money. If you want welfare, pay for it yourself ignorant fuck.

God, where do you idiots get your bullshit. The Tax Foundation (hardly a liberal site), has Federal Taxes paid vs. Federal Taxes Received for each state from 1981 through 2005. IL has consistently been a donor state (which probably explains it's current situation).
In 2005, IL paid 99.7 Billion in Federal Taxes, but only received 80.7 Billion in Federal spending. Which means it donated 19 Billion to welfare states like MS and Alaska.

And guess what? to be on welfare means that you don't have a good job. So your made up scenario of them putting more in than getting out is utter BS. God, you're dense. Let's just take what you said as a given, that IL spends more on welfare than other states (it doesn't, but we'll let it go). Fine. The FACT remains that IL (through those people that do pay taxes) sends more money to the federal government than they receive back, even for welfare.
ALL the money spent on welfare in IL comes from IL. SOME money spent on hurricanes in TX comes from TX, the rest comes from other states.

Are you a complete moron? Illinois is not the only Democrat state. The only reason it pays out more, is because it has other large Republican cities in it that help to shore it up. But the fact still remains that the other welfare states are all moochers. And even though Illinois averages out - not being a moocher, guess what? Chicago is still a huge moocher. The facts are the facts. You can't run from them. If Republican states stopped paying federal taxes, Democrats would have to get jobs.
