Sega channel brought back some of the best memories. You've got to remember at the time we didn't have steam and gamefly. It was blockbuster, family video, etc, so being able to get a lot of games for like $12/mo is cheaper and you get more.
Just think that you finally bought a subscription for this in 1998 and one day later it closes. Ha, you'd feel sorry for those people who only got to experience it for like six hours or so.
I remember one day I turned mine on and got the attention screen I called the number just to hear that it wasn't supported anymore. I had only owned it for 4 days. FUCK
Gosh, I remember them days, and the cut off date when N64 took to stage and officially ended the 2 year reign of the Sega Channel.
This was nice to see the very early stages of video game downloading...Not to mention off a cable modem. The Internet today still can't give you everything you want like Sega Channel did, even if they did, it wouldn't be $14.95 per month.
"Your Sega Channel adapter is not receiving a signal".
That's because there's no signal to receive anymore. Makes me wish I could have had this during Sega's heyday. Even when you can buy all the cartridge games or download ROMs it isn't quite the same.
It would be cool, if Sega would even just put this available on new game systems like Wii, PS3, or XBox. Sign in, and it goes back to the Nostalgic areas. Sega Channel was the earliest way to determine Ingress (Or noise interference) in cable lines. This was when cable companies were more primitive, and basically if you got a picture, you were great. Now everything has to be clean and shielded to work anything with cable.
the one device where i came across some awesome games that i've never heard of before, was very useful since i was really young and couldn't buy many games myself, and not to mention winning a harriet the spy movie contest through it too :]
long live sega channel. i miss waking up very early in the morning on the first of each month to try new games before I went to school :'[
I remember my brother's friend had Sega Channel through austar(That's an australian cable and satelite company,Sega channel was also in australia in 1995 with 2 providers,Austar and the now defunct Galaxy).
what a truly revolutionary device i live in the uk and it might have been avaviable over here not sure was only 5 when it launched but i wish i could have had it
True that. Man, this brought a tear to my eye. So many good memories. I still have my Sega Channel Adapter as well, never tried hooking it up to see the screen display now. Thanks for saving me the effort.
you still have your Sega Channel adaptor....wow, I threw mine out years ago.lol Why don't you just download a Sega Emulator on the computer and play Sega games like that?
Or let us have it for free :) and just keep it random every month but I know that wouldnt happen but what a gift it would be I think they should though I would so give them alot of credit for even trying :) They had alot of great games in my oppinion
I think they should have sega channel playable through PC order a like 10 buck a month subscription and just have all games up on there :) I would so pay for it
@cbuc815 If SEGA CHANNEL was an actual channel, it might have been a datacast, if that was the case, taping the channel and playing it back could feed some data to it.
I used to have one of those when I was a kid. I had it through mediacom cable, but I don't remember what there name was back then. I rented it through them though so when they canceled sega channel I had to send it back.
oh man that sucks that it doesnt work, that must be so annoying not being able to play it. I regret never having one. Who knows maybe theyll bring it back through the newer systems online somehow. I miss the old days :[
They wouldn't forget yophilly17. Remember when the Sonic collection games were made? Or how about when they decided to bring a few 'old friends' at the time (i.e. NiGHTS)? So even though it seems bleak, there is a way to experience it again (like with Wii's "Punch-Out.") :)
Well there ALWAYS IS SEGA CD OR 32 X

I hated that damn "ATTENTION!" screen. It used to always show up whenever there was the slightest thing wrong with the cable.

Just download the complete rom pack from a torrent site. Now you will own every sega game ever made! ;)
