How to convert .Caf files into .Wav or .Mp3 in Windows!

found a new solution for the converting, use Free Youtube downloader(newest version) and just choose the file, and just convert it to MP3, i already did it and it works. hope it helps you guys....

ps. the reason you cant do it in audacity is because caf converting its only working for Mac when trying to convert a file to Mp3 . the method im giving you is for windows users (there u go! )

@ekchris8 are u using an older version? be cause you need the latest(most recent) version to download it and then u select the conversion to mp3 and thats it...

why is it, it's not working with mine? when I open the .caf file it says: Audacity did not recognize the type of the file (path). If it is uncompressed try importing it using 'Import Raw'. But then, using the import raw, the .caf file is not playing! huhu :'( what will I do. help. please.

This did not work for me. Audacity did not recognise the file type, tried importing as raw pcm, still didn't. work. Tried MPEG Streamclip which didn't recognise caf file type, however, it would import and play the fie but wouldn't convert it because my file was too long (7hrs) but it may work for smaller files. Only thing I have found that will work to convert .caf to .wav or .mp3 is Bigasoft Total Video Converter. Best MP3 Converter also claims to convert .caf but haven't tried that yet.

@topbuzz1992 i just tried converting a .caf file to .mp3 but when i played my file it was completely silent. i tried again thinking it could be just a bad conversion but it fell silent again. Audacity doesnt work either for me because it also didnt recognize the file type

hi SUFR1042, i'm getting an error message just by trying to open the caf file. it says: Audacity did not recognize the type of the file 'C:\Documents...etc.caf. If it is uncompressed, try importing it using "Import Raw"'

and then i tried to import raw, and listened to it on Audacity. all i hear is a screeching sound.

If your exporting to mp3, you will need to make sure you have a copy of "lame_enc.dll" to export the file properly. Audacity will ask you when this occurs (you can search for it on google)

I got a simple way (.wav)!

First you need Quicktime

- Open up your CAF file using Quicktime

(right click, open with - quicktime player)

- File - Export (CTRL + E)

- Ignore the top 2 options

- Export: Sound to Wave

- Click Save

I think you can then use audacity to make it to .mp3

thanks man it really helped! Seriously, i recorded something on my ipod touch, and ssh'ed the file onto my pc, installed the converter, and converted the .caf file into .wav!

@BlueSpawnRecords use mpeg_streamclip....very good software man..and it will batch too!! solved my problems. the reason why audicity doesnt work is it doesnt support APPLE official CAF files....which might be yours..but mpeg_streamclip does since it uses quicktime, which is from apple.

For people with problems......use quicktime to export the audio, but if you want to batch convert, use mpeg_streamclip!

Yeah... it wasn't like BAM for me. I downloaded audacity and each file I tried to convert it recognized as .04 second clips. No sound.

spartanhorse, use mpegstreamclip. its awesome, but you must first have quicktime player. it batches caf files audio and even palys them correctly because its using quicktime, which is from apple wich also CAF files are from apple. Itl'' tell you that it doesnt support your file after you import, but click the import anyways button and TADA!!!! you can export it to anything you want!!!! also if its only 1 file, quicktime by itself is your other solution.
