  • best def leppard song!

  • As far as I`m concerned def leppard only had 2 albums on through the night, & high & dry.

  • Had the first verse of this written on my notebook in high school. Everyone thought i wrote it cuz i was in a band and nobody knew this song back then. I never told til now. :O

  • im brown and love this grew up with all this in the 80s

  • this is fucKEN CLASSIC HEY???? FCK YAAAAA!

  • should have stayed the course

  • Thumbs up for old Def Leppard!

  • The chorus is fucking BOSS

  • Doesnt matter what the band say they were FUCKIN METAL in the early days!

  • This is old-school metal at it's fucking peak!! If I drove a car back in the early 80's I'd listen to this every fucking time I drove!

  • I grew up listening to hysteria, as a kid.......but THIS is the album....one of the best in rock history

  • very very underated song dis song should b on 1 of dose vh1 greatest rock songs shows

  • I don't know If Def Leppard "sold out", their music just evolved over time. I I happen to like every album, despite each one having a different sound from the last. To be honest, I think 10+ albums of this kind of music (as good as it is) would get old, boring and predictable. Perhaps perspective is different from many of you, as I was introduced to Def Leppard just a few years ago, and wasn't there to witness the dawn of their career.

  • Oh-my-God. This is amazing Music!

  • jlr41877. Man, when you're right. Your right. Mutt went on to marry that kuntry mess named Shania Twain. The whole thing spun out of control when Mutt went commercial. I agree with what you posted though. No sh*t.

  • I'm not schoolin' myself,,,LOL :-)

  • pete willis got himself tossed from the band

  • Fuck that it went downhill after Pyromania.

  • @LORDGOAT1976 AMEN!!!

  • def leppard needs to go back to there roots to get back the die hard NWOBHM fans

  • What an awesome album!!

  • @kostas21925

my question exactly I like to think it was due to loalkty to the drummer, since the e. drums changed their sound or perhaps like otheer artists they simply evolved, I stopped listenning afterpyromania..hated the pur some sugar on me sound

  • @nighthawk584

I never noticed it till you pointed it out, but you're right - the solos are totally Schenker.

  • Great album, fresh, young, wild....

  • when they were NWOBHM......

  • This is quite possibly the coolest album art ever.

  • The only way to haul the huge guitar. Using a Kenworth to do it.

  • Michael Schenker style solo...you can tell he was a major influenced from his UFO days.

  • This is where it all began kiddies, no pants to the ground, straight up metal!!!!

  • they sold out after this one

  • @TheSteelers5892 high n dry was a totally great album, you have to admit.

  • remember the 96 rock days in cincinnati...

  • Ummmmm did you guys know they always wanted a more pop sound? I mean I love each record in it's own way except for slang never cared for that one. Hysteria was their best album because of phil Collen and Steve Clark's amazing guitar work listen to excitable or run riot or Gods of war and try to tell me those songs don't have great guitar work. Def leppard NEVER wanted to be a metal band but a ROCK band and hysteria was WAYYYY ahead of it's time this album while still an Amazing album wasn't an

  • @JBlodgettProductions they were part of the NWOBHM.. i just didnt like there sound after the 1st album ...they like lizzy so i cant hatem

  • @JBlodgettProductions On Through the Night - 1 million copies sold

Hysteria - 20 million copies sold... It doesnt matter what kinda band you actually wanna be, what kinda band are you gonna say you wanna be when u compare the sales between these two albums? Don't get me wrong I love every def leppard album, but think about it

  • @britnyfoxnkiktracee fuck you def leppard left their classic sound in hysteria, to a more pop rock sound to try and appeal to the mainsteam. plus rick allen lost his arm and could never play the same again. It All went downhill from their after hysteria.

  • @skidoofever Thats my fucking point dumbass... They left to appeal to the mainstream cuz when you do that ur albums sell 20x better... thats all that matters to the record company that releases ur albums is how much money you make...

  • I saw them on this tour along with The Scorpions and Ted Nugent. It was my first concert and still one of the best I ever saw, and I've seen a lot.

  • @Mescalineification1 That is such an epic first concert!

  • Their best album. I paid like $9 for this on Vynl @ a flea market. xD Love it!

  • And this is also what made the '80s as well as the '70s great is how much of a change there is in each year and from album to album. Not the case from the '90s to today when alternative and rap/hip hop became mainstream. Rap and alternative absolutely ruined music period. It's all about hype and money now.

  • IM SEEING THESE GUYS LIVE IN 4 FUCKING HOURS MAN

  • this is their BEST Album!!

  • Def Leppard's career hit the skids w/ Pyromania, still somewhat an enjoyable album, their career ended in 1984 when Rick Allen lost his left arm in a freak car crash,Hysteria (1988),,WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT?,,then Steve Clark OD's and dies in 1990,,the band was long gone by this point,,Def Leppard's Legacy was shortlived,it was over when Pete Willis left,,No,,Pete Willis was sacked by Mutt Lange, the Producer,,Mutt Lange's a fuckin' idiot. Mutt Lange is the real reason Def Leppard went to shit.

  • @jlr41877 Hahaha,, So True xD

  • @jlr41877 But on the flipside, Mutt Lange is the real reason Leppard went on to superstar status. Things happen for a reason, and no denying the DL were lauging all the way to the bank. I personally hate the direction they went after High n Dry, but can't blame any artist or band wanting to ride the success train either. They were young and hungry.

    Their prerogative.

  • @jlr41877 They produced shittier music but they made huge money off Hysteria

  • @UberKrispy Yes sir they did...they sold out

  • @jlr41877 Are you serious?! Def Leppard started their legacy WITH Pyromania, followed by the best album EVER, Hysteria...After rick lost his arm, they gained a sound no other band could pull off. With the electronic drums ect... Mutt Lange is the foundation of WHY Def Leppard is who they are today. Get your facts straight.

  • @jlr41877 Thanks for the Schooolin' Aaah Scha Scha Scha Schoolin!!

  • @jlr41877 Excuse me, but for all intensive purposes I think Pyromania was their BEST album, tied with HIGH and DRY. This album, with Rock brigade, was classic as well. I remember back in the early 80's when they played this song on the radio and I LOVED IT! These albums wernt Sell Outs, pure music. Sorry I ,might be a little biased, since Pyromania was the first music I ever bought, on cassette lol. Rock On!

  • @jlr41877 everyone insults hysteria but that album wasnt bad it had its high points, armageddon it? poursome some sugar on me?

  • @jlr41877 Um NO! Pyromania was the PINNACLE of their career, def NOT the skids.....

  • @jlr41877 Adrenalyze was their last somewhat decent album. After that, they just went to either trying lame attempts at doing modern rock, or going the Bon Jovi route and going pop.Either way, they miserably failed.

  • @jlr41877 WTF! are you kidding me,def leppard sucked until high n dry thats when they started to get good, pete willis was an little twat that just tryed to rule the band then got so hooked on alcohol he couldn't play anymore phil collen is way better than him, hysteria is one of their best albums (pyromania is my favourite) & mutt lange helped the band,& they did have an few good albums after hysteria like retro active, slang,&euphoria.

  • @pinkygilmour46 THANK YOU!! That dude jlr41877 and his deaf (not Def) followers have been smoking some serious crack. Pyromania was my favorite DL album and Hysteria is a very close 2nd, those albums rocked.

  • @p4horror no problem my freind looks like you got good taste in music :)

  • @jlr41877

To tell you the truth - I can't listen to Def Leppard past this cd - This cd is a masterpiece

  • @jlr41877

I don't know why everyone bashes hysteria. It is an interesting album that doesn't sound like anything else. And it really showcases steve clarks unique writing style. I love Pyromania too. High n' dry was a good album but sounded a lot like ACDC. The first album was very good classic/prog rock.

  • @Triangulove I don't understand the hate either. I like this album, I love this High 'n' Dry, Pyromania, Hysteria, Adrenalize, and (forgive me for this) even Slang. To me, they are the band that can cover a wide variety of music without sounding like Nirvana, Metallica or Maroon 5 for the newer stuff. I understand favoring an album, but not even giving anything a chance? Y'all aren't Lep fans, your High 'n'' Dry era fans.

  • @JettRaider

Well I don't know if it's the same for you, but i'm not as old as a lot of the guys who apparently hate hysteria. I'm guessing most of them are old enough to be my dad and probably prefer that classic, vintage sound. I like that, but I also love modern sounding stuff, like Hysteria.

  • @Triangulove Well, I'm 15 (not trying to be one of them retards who think showing their age is cool) and growing up in today's wasteland of music, its just so much easier to appreciate Def Leppard's "High 'n' Dry" as much as "Hysteria" for me.

  • what an intro fiff

    Epic!!

  • This is definately in my top 10 list of Def Lep songs

  • i loved this band since i was like 10 years old :D i loovve their early stuff!!

  • THIS is Def Leppard. 'Nuff said.

  • @adalaku Thanks Captain Obvious. We can clearly fucking see that. Def Leppard - Rock Brigade.

  • This was the starting theme for my radio broadcast named as Rock Brigade back in 1993.

  • Comment removed

  • One of the best and unique-sounding solos ever.

  • Although i did like some songs here and there after pyromania. None on Hysteria however. For some reason i hated the sound on Hysteria. Some songs on that album could have been salvaged with a different sound. Once Pete Willis was fired and Hysteria came out, i've hated the sound ever since.

  • this kicks ass period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 190 thumbs up to zero.... any questions?

  • This used to be a great song to bury the Speedometer in my 340 Cuda to, usually in an altered state on a Saturday night. Lucky to have lived through those days.

  • @AMXhotrod Sounds like you may not have been the only lucky one.

  • Comment removed

  • A fuckin metal classic!!1

  • This album is still great.

  • I think def leppard always wanted to be a pop band Joe Elliot always said they wanted to be more like duran duran then black sabbath

  • On through the night = Absolute Masterpiece

    High n dry = A Better masterpiece

Pyromania = A Master piece made by the gods

  • @MetalThrashingMad87 Hysteria? -holy fuc**ng sh*t :D

  • The first song I ever heard from these guys. It kicked ass then, and still does today.

  • I used to listen to this on one of those rectangular portable "tape recorders" and thought I was the "SHIT" and I was !!!LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great song......great guitar solo.....great album cover.

  • This is the Real Def Leppard when they were alittle More Heavy

  • @Wehategod And not commercial...but dont hate GOD...lol..

  • better watch out for the rock brigade!

  • Pete Wilis + Steve Clark worth a billion thumbs up.

  • On Through The Night ; High And Dry... Pure NWOBHM...

  • Just discovered the early Def Leppard this year. These guys made some of the finest Rock N Roll ever to be heard, went downhill ever since Pete Willis was gone. Can't believe I was living without this kick ass music until now.

  • @weightnut how did they go downhill? They sold way more albums after Pete Willis left

  • @Bigrobkerr Is that true they sold more albums after the leave of Pete Willis? Well this must mean they are greatest band on the planet because it makes sense to judge a band on the amount of record sales doesn't it.....idiot.

  • bottom line they did not go downhill after the departure of pete willis. In fact they became the huge and highly successful band that they are by making the changes they did..how bout them apples?

  • @Bigrobkerr You can take one of those apples and shuv it in your mouth to stop the crap from escaping. Def Leppard's best selling albums are not their best work. They sold out their original Rock N Roll NWOBHM sound for a more candy ass pop sound. Def Leppard declined when THEIR music had become less important than the record sales. If you cannot grasp what I'm trying to say here, you should be slapped over the head.

  • I grasp what you are saying and what you are saying is wrong. Def leppard are not sell outs no matter what you say. They wanted to be a huge success not just a minor short lived band. If your philosophy is to stay mediocre because you dont want to offend a few fans then thats your thing, but that is not what Def Leppard had in mind. Def Leppard are where they are because of the changes they made. I am glad they did not follow your way of thinking.

  • @Bigrobkerr Def Leppard will be remembered for their early kick ass albums and then changing their sound to accommodate for a larger fan base of 13 year old girls. They wanted to turn pussy, Pete Willis said NO! They booted Pete Willis out under "alcohol problems", Pete Willis went on to play in other Rock N Roll bands. Where are they nowadays? Performing with Taylor Swift!?! They don't even acknowledge their earlier albums. I'd like to hear Joe sing Rock Brigade these days. Sellouts!

  • @weightnut I definitely remember Def Leppard for their early kick ass albums and not the crap after Hysteria. Funny thing about the Taylor Swift Gig is that I thought she was the star there, not the once great rock band that kicked out tunes like Wasted, Rock Brigade, Let it Go, Rock of Ages, etc. What does NWOBHM stand for?

  • @weightnut I sort of agree with your sentiments, the first two, maybe 3 albums were Leppards best, and yes, Hysteria is a totally mainstream pop album - but its a bloody good one!

  • @1FineYoungCannibal Hell yeah! Well said.

  • @Bigrobkerr I used to be a big Def Leppard fan when they were a true rock band. High 'N" Dry and Pyromania are two of my all time favorite metal albums. I even liked Hysteria, but that album isn't close to the prior 2. I think they have sold out with their music since Hysteria. I don't care how high their record sales are since then. Their music has went downhill and it is sad to see a great band do this.

  • @weightnut lol... fyl... theres nothing wrong with their later 80s/early 90s albums. They might not be METAL, but they were good songs... Playing ballads doesnt make you a "candyass pop" band, just means ur not METAL. I mean sure they went commercial once bringin on the heartbreak hit MTV... but come on, slang was their only dissappointing album

  • @forbiddenmemories004 When a famous artist completely changes their style, logically it's for the money (sellingout.) The album Hysteria I like, it was more of a pop album but it was the 80's...pop music was good back then. After that, with both the original guitarists gone, Def Leppard turned to absolute crap just like Rock in general during the 90's... Not worth listening too for someone who likes to Rock n Roll.

  • @weightnut thats fair, but also one of the reasons they changed, (or claimed to) is because they disliked On Through the night, High n Dry they did like, it was slightly less heavy than their debut, Pyromania was less than high n dry, etc. It was also because of their own personal taste in music

  • First 2 albums kicked ass and then commercial they a went!!!

  • 117 likes 0 dislikes...NoicER!

  • 116 likes 0 dislikes...Noice!

  • HYSTERIA CLASSIC 1000?/

  • DEF LEPPARD 4LIFE !

  • rhis group has always inspired me ven though ive never seen them live, the drummer has one arm....that....is....fucking....awesome

  • hysteria was a kick ass album....though definitely more on the pop rock side when compared to "on through the nite"

  • lol at the people critisizing hysteria here

  • probably my favourite def song

  • We all want our favorite groups and singers 2 never change their look or sound, but just like photos of ourselves, time pushes us all into change. It would seem music is no exception 2 that rule.

  • 89-0 Likes vs. Dislikes. Gotta love it. Pete Willis rules.

  • well ... everyone knows that this is by far the best def leppard album theyve ever put and out and that thay shouldve split up after this release.

i mean ... what's wrong about this idea ? if they had done this, they would now be remembered as a badass heavy metal band and not as faggy pop rock posers who sold out up from pyromania !

of course i like some of the songs off hysteria like pour some sugar on me but its just something completely different and nothing compard to this badass album !

  • @xDIStructorx true, but you have to think of the demand. Things were changing. Me for one wished they kept there High N Dry , On Through The Night , And Pyromania sound. I liked hysteria. But Adrenalize just lost my interest. And then so on.

  • Damn you, Dave Glover.

  • Comment removed

  • ...Remember when this hit the stores,....big then was Ted Nugent, Journey, REO, man, the good ole' days......

  • @taznruby man, glad i'm alive today then haha, nothing against those bands but i cant stand them

  • @klasomentas A Cool song, indeed!

  • KICK....ASS....SONG!!!!! Thumbs up if you want Def Lep to bring back Pete Willis (who, BTW, cowrote many of their greatest songs, including Photograph)

  • EVERYONE! CELEBRATE HARD AND HEAVY CLASSIC ROCK AT MY CHANNEL WITH ARTISTS LIKE DEF LEPPARD, VAN HALEN, OZZY OSBOURNE, LED ZEPPELIN, AC/DC, BLACK SABBATH, GUNS N' ROSES, IRON MAIDEN, AND MORE!

  • Keith Gilbertson doin' it diesel

  • I used to listen to this album quite a bit back in the day. By 1983 I didn't care much for them anymore.

  • no dislikes, good work

  • Def Leppard's best ballad from their debut album, that I still own in mint condition!

  • @CorporalPitts does this sound like a ballad?

  • @klasomentas Absolutely! This is Def Leppard's Best & COOLEST ballad for the ages, that I always enjoy. The album is still a Classic!

  • @CorporalPitts But it's not a ballad.It's a song.

  • Comment removed

  • I have to expand on the comment by the Duck.... This album was the best songs they produced...

  • Anyone know how to play the intro? Im dying to play it.

  • Masterpiece!!!!!!!

  • Great tune!

  • I only like the first 4 albums.

  • @microkorgboy Hysteria was too much polished

  • @balerinauzicka What do you mean by polished? Better production? To me Hysteria was the last album that actually sounded good. The rest are total sellout shit.

  • @microkorgboy To me, Hysteria sounded sterile. But, that is just mine opinion nobody cares about.

  • After pyromania this band sold out.

  • @ThaNickstaftw

WITH pyromania this band sold out

    /thread

  • This was the first Def Leppard song I had ever heard, blew me away when I heard it...that was in 1981!

  • Phil Collen and Vivian Campell will never be able to truly replace Pete Willis and Steve Clark..Their awesome sound will live on forever on 2 great albums On Through the Night and High and Dry.

  • @BlazingSentinel you got that right

  • @BlazingSentinel You damn fricken right. Pete and Steve had it. Just too bad Pete had a drinking problem that was detremental to the whole band. Steve Clark R.I.P.

  • @BlazingSentinel newsflash they already did

  • I love this song. In my opinion, one of their best songs ever.

  • @pdk25 Yeah...Too bad they are playing lame watered-down pop-rock now.

  • @TheGreatDuck I agree with you 100%. The first 3 Def Leppard albums were great (with High and Dry being my favorite).

  • @TheGreatDuck cause now they r hungry for money back then they were hungry to rock

  • @GodsOfWar666 Well, to quote Rush, "glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity," and that's what happens to 99% of all once-true rock bands once they make it big.

  • @rpmangin well the fact that the drummer lost his arm has a lot to do with the change in sound also

  • @rpmangin haha i know every word in Spirit of the Radio ever since a school art project where I had to pick one of my favorite songs and make a picture out of it, using lyrics, not lines.

  • @pdk25 Totally agree

  • This and Let it go - the best Leppard songs ever!

  • this was the first song i heard by Def Leppard and always remained my favorite

  • sounds like michale schenker doing the solo

  • @johnnywubba Between 1:39 - 1:46 sounds almost like Schenker's solo on UFO's Mother Mary.

  • @idurna2000 UFO had a big influence on Def Leppard as you probably know.

  • I remember going to North Town Mall in Rockford Illinois to buy this, as if it were yeasterday

  • @LambAndTheDragon Lol. I remember going Downtown Chicago to Rock Records to buy this album. Loved to listen to this song before I would go to football practice.

  • just listen to the toms at 0:24 ....fucking amazing
