Though I am happy Carly is pursuing a new career, she should have been in Beijing, cheering on the American gymnasts. She took everything she could get from gymnastics but gave nothing back. The comment about MaryLou Retton and the tricks being "so much harder now" indicates poor sportsmanship. I hope Nastia, Shawn and the other girls do better with carrying the torch for American gymnastics. Good luck Carly, I wish you enjoyed gymnastics more- I know I did!

for those who dont know, yes carly patterson quit gymnastics...i think a couple months after Athens 2004 Olympics. She was a great gymnast and today wouldve stopped china from winning the gold but the thing is, gymnastics is VERY taxing and...hard. after winning a GOLD in the Olympics, its actually a good idea to quit unless you were like, 12 when u got the gold, then u should try for some more. gymnastics isnt exactly a high paying sport or anything so no point in sticking around after gold
