In one of your other videos I watched earlier you had some bad orange juice, where you said it was too yellow, and I thought, well what colour is orange juice supposed to be? D'oh!
I actually went out and bought some after that, and on the way home I was wondering why they only called it orange, or if they were sitting around naming colours after fruits?
That is also my favorite knock knock joke! I have to admit I learned it from a John Green novel though (can't remember which one it's in at the moment).
It just makes me sad that I can't get anyone with it a second time
you gave me much to think about! "what came first, the melon or the lemon?" dear god i never thought of that!!! which just goes to prove you are decades ahead of me intelligence-wise. i'm being very serious right now. i'm going to go munch on a strawberry now... WHICH IS NOT A BERRY!
Maybe they discovered oranges before the colour? Like... how would they know of the colour orange. I can't think of many naturally occuring things that are orange... maybe im just slow
What I also wonder about is the pronunciation of fruit names - what ever happened to the 'p' in raspberry? And why does saying 'banana' cause such troubles for us all from different English-speaking countries? I suppose it is always the most common words of a language that get distorted and changed the most, lol
I agree with Charly, I used to think cherries were berries as well. "Cherry" is probably one of those portmanteau words, like originally it was called "charlyberry" or something, and they just shortened it to "cherry".
Actually, oranges were called oranges before the colour orange was called orange! Oranges were from the Sanskrit "nāraṅgaḥ", which meant "orange tree". The colour orange was named from the fruit, the orange.
we should get rid of unique fruit names altogether, and separate them by their region of origin, (labeled a,b,c etc) then number off the different types within those regions.
What about raspberries? Were two people having a conversation something like this?
"What should we name this fruit?"
"I don't know, let's taste it." *tastes it, and discovers he's allergic"
*cough, gak!* "Oh no! I'm allergic! What happened to my voice? It's raspy!"
"I know! It looks like a red blackberry and it makes you talk with a rasp! Let's call it a rasp-berry!"

She should take her fingers out of her mouth. That's how germs are spread. Where did she learn that horrible habit? Ew!

Haha! Actually, the dutch call more or less every fruit a apple of some sort. Example: orange = aardappel.

A coincidence none the less.

Do you think they came up with the name for oranges before they named the carrot?
Minish 2 years ago
Surely the colour's named after the fruit? Like peach.

Originally. orange was called "geoluhread"...

Great discussion about fruit. To me I would say that the longer the word, the bigger the fruit is. Well spotted Josh.
I agree with Phandoom you should do a blogtv if you find time.

ah,
I think, just to make things more complicated,
we should get rid of unique fruit names altogether, and separate them by their region of origin, (labeled a,b,c etc) then number off the different types within those regions.
so like
apples would be A-1
and lychee would be D-4
or something like that. haha
