Didn't she sing this song as duo with some guy?? Was it Rob Guest?? or was it another song they sang in another year of the South Pacific song contests...
Would you believe it...found this single at "Real Groovy" today. Ranks in my top 5 NZ songs ever. Thank you Tina and Carl. Tina, you are inspirational.
i was around 11 when this song came out and loved this song! what a gorgeous woman back then and still a babe till this day. she also sang a ripper version a few years back on the variety performance "to sir with love" in honour of the great Sir Howard Morrison. and sometime back in the early 80s also had her own short run series with her as a shop owner, though can't remember much more about it.
Wow! Love this one. The lyrics and music to that chorus have been sticking in my mind for years (it's that memorable). Now, all we need is for Tina Cross to re-release these older songs on CD or iTunes.
She was wearing a light green off the shoulder number similar colour to the Green coloured Pebble hehe,... at approximately 2:30 in the track the International score board flashed New Zealand 50 points the rest is history :P
I was running around the lounge screeching along side her and driving my family nuts! haha love it ty for theupload!
No offence to Tina but listening to this after years and years it kinda reminds me of a theme song to one of those cheesy 80's yank sitcoms lol, sorry Tina
I remember this song at the time, Tina was the next ABBA type singer after ABBA. I don't remember the tempo being so fast or the vocals so high. I never understood why Tina wasn't a global star, but singing is not the same as the olympics where the best runner is obvious
I did speed up the song - lust a littlewhen I converted it to digital ... just to make it slightly more lively ... shhh, don't tell Tina - she might be cross!
A recording of that Contest was actually shown on Swedish TV at the time, and someone recorded it. I remember us listening to the winning song over and over. I'll upload the (much better)! live version if I can get hold of the VHS,
Great to hear this again! I actually played on this recording in Aukland. I did all the trumpet lines. I had forgotten how long ago it was. Thanks for bringing back a great memory. Good Luck to Carl and the rest of the crew.
You played the trumpet lines ? Wow - respect to you! Personally speaking I feel the trumpet lines really enhance the song and give it that extra pizaz contributing to its rightfull "first" place at the song contest. The song is somewhast dated now but back in the day music was music and musicians WERE musicians not like the electronic computorised generated music of today !!! Thanks for listend and thanks for you comment ! Gee, Tina sure made us all proud to be kiwis back in '79!
Thanks for the memories, seems like only yesterday that Tina first sang this, I was in second form at Intermediate in Palmy. terrific Stuff, absolute Gold!!!!
No problem - glad you enjoyed - yes only seems like yesterday I was 11 at the time ... In 1992 or 93 there was a tv series called "When the haka became boogie" and one episode featured Tina Cross at the Song contest and showed the clip ... I had taped it but Left NZ for he UK in 1993 so did not keep my vids ... what a pitty I still don't have that video !!!
you have been away from NZ for a while too, same here, you wouldn't have or know of the song by sharon o'neill called lucks on your table? I think this was her ever first hit, going back to NZ for a trip at Xmas, looking forward to it.
I don't have anything by Sharon O'neil - but of course I am well aware of her music. If I come across it on any download websites I will "borrow it" and try to post it but this could take a bit of "hunting around" ... if you like add me as asubscriber so if I ever do come across it you will know ...

How was Tina with Leon Berger (Koo De Tah), one of the most under rated bands world wide. Could have went way ferther with better management.
Love Tina, use to see Leon at the muso's club in Sydney (three days a week , lol)
Great stuff Tina.
