WOW - I relived hearing these wonderful ladies. Malika ji is really a "Malika of Dogri" and even Tahira inherited and delivered it so well. They are melody for ears. Kindly share if you have some more collection. God Bless them for keeping my Dogri Folk alive.
Most people in the Kangra valley nowadays do not know about these songs theselves as they have not heard them or sung these songs or have lost touch. Another song from the nearby Chamba area is sung by Mallika in the chambeyaali dialect....'Raazi rauna bhala'. If she didnot sing them so beautifully they would've been lost with time.
This is a Kangri dialect folk song from the Kangra Valley in what was then known as the Punjab hill states or Punjab Himalaya(new name Himachal). The places mentioned in the song Paprola, Barot are near Joginder Nagar, Nadaun is also close by in Hamirpur distt. all in the Kangra Valley region. Bulle shah mentions Nadaun in his writings. 'Na main rehnda vich Nadaun' and 'Aaye Nadaun taan Jaaye Kaun'. The area was controversially taken out of punjab in 1966..and state of himachal was created.
