Hmmm. Iron Maiden sells out stadiums all over the world to this day, they put out epic albums that are critically acclaimed, have been together over 30 years, and are metal legends. Axl crapped on his former band mates, walked off the stage numerous times, instigated riots (from walking off the stage), assaulted a camera man and his ex wives, forced his former band mates to sign over the band name GNR, disappeared for over 12 years and released a s*** album. Maiden runs circles around Axl.

I don't see how your band is your political statement. Fans of this type of music might consider themselves rebels but one thing they tend not to give a shit about is politics. Iron Maiden are a classic heavy metal band and still going after all this time, I find it hard to believe Axl doesn't understand where they're coming from. Maiden have influenced a lot of artists over the years. Maybe they do have underlying political issues that fly over my head because I just like the music.

He just wants to explain the difference between real music and commercial music. Real music focuses on the music, and innovation; commercial music focusses on things that have allready been done and have been proven to work. Around this time, gnr made real music. In this interview you see Axl boasting about it. In fact, some years after this, the band broke, and slash and axl and duff became commercial. Izzy didnt. He's still making true music. And he didnt boast.

@Betyl100 i saw them before illusions were released. the tour started but the album release was delayed. i wasnt expecting much. i seen them live on MTV and was disappointed. i had a bootleg video and was disappointed, i read they were sloppy and axl couldnt sing live, and a friend saw them open for aerosmith and she said they were terrible. skid row opened and wow, they blew me away. i thought no way could gnr top that. GNR was one of the best concerts ever.
