RIP SRV ,when he is playing his soul is faaaaar awaaaay from everything around him , the soul who is playing .opposite of jeff the way he was plying with, kind of ''DEAL'' he was feeling it like that . ''SRV IS A PUUUURE TRUE F"""" TALNT OF GOD'' RIP
Neither one is BETTER than the other. SRV has perfect tone and rhythm and can make his guitar cry and melt your face off at the same time. He tends to repeat a lot the same licks but those are his signature licks. Becks the master at phrasing and creating new sounds & approaches to the guitar. Blow by Blow is easily one of the best instrumental guitar recordings.
@skitzofingers Stevie was playing the same solos he always plays too. Some solos are more specific, but his main style is Albert King. Jeff does use many of the same solos as does every other musician on the face of the earth.
Quit criticizing Jeff Beck. He has an open mind to music, and plays many different genres, and he sounds original even when he covers others' songs. Can SRV do that? How could Jeff Beck be an amateur when he was in the Yardbirds even before SRV became famous? Give the British some credit.
SRV makes Jeff Beck look like a total beginner! He totally ripped Beck's face off so bad its not funny. Beck looks like a complete idoit up there with SRV !
Beck is great but whenever SRV played along side any other guitarist, he makes them look like amateurs compared to him especially when they are playing the blues! SRV.. IMHO<---(get that Jimi fans?) is the greatest guitarist that ever lived.
brilliant players and all, but i felt they were tryin to play over each other like a competition.
beck has mastered his tremolo bar technique since this video and as for stevie, he was just at the top of his game at the time. wonderful performance from both, pitty becks guitar was too loud in the mix
Its so weird to see Jeff Back with a shred guitar. He is always relevant and in the 80's that was the guitar of choice for the Rock Guitar slinger. Pink no less wow

Jeff Beck isn't really a blues player and his so called "blues approach" is quite weak. He's an inovator ok, but not very good at all at blues. He is more for rock with a combination of jazz, etc... Also what many of you forget is that Jeff also plays covers as well as Stevie, but he does them with a mixed result and he haven't done nothing really nothing new and amazing in years which is not a bad thing, but imagine where Stevie would be now and what would he be playing.
Very nice, very nice. Thanks for posting. These two guys are right up there and there is no doubt. Jimmie Ray Vaughn is a big time jerk. Go see him in concert if you dont' believe me. And, his playing is very, very average.
@soltisimba Gotta agree with you there. I"ve met Jimmie twice, and both times he was a prick. I was kinda hoping that the first time he was just having a rough day, but nope, it's all the time
@MrCfralick Yup. Just his stage setup (I saw him as the headliner at a blues festival) says it all. He clears this big area for him to strut around in putting everyone else into the background. Hey Jimmy Ray -- you are living off of your brother's fame. Get over yourself. He was not like that with the Fabulous Thunderbirds when I saw them in the late 1980's. But, his head got swolllen somewhere along the line.
I saw Stevie Ray live several times, met him, etc and also saw Jeff Beck play. I love them both, and Stevie made better records, but live...no one will blow your mind like Jeff Beck.
@logue444 , Yeah Beck's a mind blower alright. Always taking it somewhere new. Even on his first 2 albums playing straight blues he managed to sound original and outside yet authentically blues...practically unheard of. Logue have you heard those Truth & Beckola ? Just great .
Go check out the "Lice at Ronnie Scott's" cuts here on youtube, and you will see a true master at work. Stevie Ray, Clapton, etc., were totally focussed on blues, and no one will argue their abilities. But no one sounds like Beck, and on those cuts I mentioned you will see that he is better than he has ever been. His tone and technique are unsurpassed. Are Vaughn and Clapton better blues players? Maybe. Have either of them ever played like Beck? No Way.
Jeff Beck is great, but better than Eric and Stevie? Not. Maybe than Eric, but that is only when it comes to creativity, as far as Stevie, he can't compare to Stevie. If you listen closely you would notice that Stevie never stayed just at the blues. He could play anything, pretty much similar in a way just like Jeff. Eric and Stevie don't sound like Jeff cause they have their own style. Overall, Stevie is better than Jeff. Stevie is a god of guitar, Jeff is just an excellent guitar player.
Go check out Stevie's Texas Flood at El Mocambo and you will see a real true master at work giving the world the greatest electric blues performance of all time, by far one of the greatest guitar performances ever in music history. There is nobody on the planet that can compare to that.
Beck has always had a big vision. He's never been content with sitting still, being categorized, fitting into one genre. He's always been pushing the envelope. He cannot be called a blues guitarist, because he plays all kinds of music. Mercurial, explosive, iconoclastic.....that's Jeff. Don't expect a conventional blues solo, or, for that matter, ANYTHING conventional from JB.
Has anyone ever exploited, or pioneered, the expansion of the pure sounds of the electric guitar more? Maybe Les Paul.
Big vision? Hahaha... Stop fooling yourself. The guy was creative a bit in the beggining, but later on he started doing nothing special. I could agree he experimented a lot with equipment and sounds, but nothing even close comparing to the guitar god Jimi Hendrix who is the #1 master at such things and to SRV. He is certainly versatile, but not that much that you can say that he can "play anything", also he doesn't sing and plays instrumentals only. If you ask me, definetely overrated.
Geez....I gave my opinion, you gave yours. Hendrix was fabulous, I agree. SRV fantastic too. But Beck overrated? Hard for me to agree on that. Have you heard Wired? Blow By Blow? Guitar Shop? You Had It Coming? He ventured into a different, less immediate and less commercial realm. The blues couldn't contain him or limit him. I love blues first and foremost, but for Beck to limit himself to that genre would be--to use a painting analogy--like an artist compelled to paint photo-realistically.
Why is it always "my guy is better than your guy" on these forums? I always hesitate any attempt to quantify talent. When is the last time you heard, for example, Mark Knopfler ripping on anyone? All the negativity sucks! You don't have to agree with me; I'm not going to convince you and I won't try. I like SRV, Jimi, Larry Carlton, Charlie Christian, Django, Knopfler, Sonny Landreth, Danny Gatton AND Jeff Beck. There's room for all of 'em. Can't say one is better than another; to try is absurd.
I couldn't agree more slim. What it comes down to when you get in that level of great is personal opinion. I think Stevie is the best but I certainly could never call someone out for saying Beck, Clapton, Hendrix. Van Halen or anyone else. I hate it when people feel the need to bash someone else to try and make there point. There all great and have a talent I can only dream about.
do you have ears?jimmie vaughans out of time and suck ass attempt at playing the blues is inexcusible, thank god for jeff becks kick ass lead ,followed by the real vaughans lead.open ur ears
