If you modified a car, you wouldn't want to race an iconic car just to see at what level your car is performing at? Beating a Viper shows the results of the work put into the Camaro. It isn't taking anything away from the Viper, and it's not an insult to the Viper. Everyone knows a Viper would kill a Camaro stock for stock.
I'll agree with your side if people start saying Vipers suck and Camaro's are better cars, but until then, just enjoy fast cars.

I'd have to disagree with the Viper being over the Camaro when modified. On a road course the Viper wins. But the Camaro is a quarter mile beast when set for it, and the fastest Camaro standing mile is 244mph to the fastest Vipers 240mph. Modified Camaro's shouldn't be taken lightly by anyone in any car.

@camirocz Because though they had 400 and 450 horse, they were smoking everything in their class and much more. Now they're doing it again with the 600 horse model and especially the ACR.
@800hennessy they are badass but the old vipers had ALOT of issues, overheating bein the worst, and for some reason you wont see too many with more than60 or 70k miles. the acr is bad but keep in mind that, that 600 horses only get you to 171mph. to me they are getting ugly. the 96-8 gts where a thing of beastly art, the new acr looks like a hot wheels car, cool but looks like a 5 year old designed it.
@800hennessy Bleh those cars are over rated, they're not worth the price unless you race it on the track daily. I'd much rather spend my money on a SS Camaro. For the price of that viper I could have a race car of a SS Camaro.

He went from a 45 roll in the second run and had to shift almost instantly. It don't matter whose got better what, it matters whose faster. @mikey00426 That is actually wrong, Weight difference determines alot, If that Camaro was just a 2 seater like that viper then it'd be a whole new ball game. You've never owned a 600 horsepower ride, nor a 500 horsepower ride, 100 horsepower barely makes up for the difference in weight.

@mikey00426 100 horsepower does not make up 600 lbs. take this for an example, my buddy has a 08 Corvette, Dynod 684whp.. another buddy has a 02 SS Camaro, 408 stroker, turbo'd. dyno'd 742whp. It also has some things took off of it to reduce the weight. it has no rear seats, no spare tire, no jacks or anything. The weight difference is around 140lbs because they weight around the same weight. The corvette pulls so hard on the camaro..and the camaro has 58 more horsepower at the wheels.

all im saying is, i want to know what flywheel you got. My 2010 put down 391rwhp when it was booooone stock. Made 432rwhp after CAI, exhaust, headers, high flow cats, and tune. That's 41rwhp over stock. I would like to know what lightweight flywheel accounted for such a big increase on your friend's caddy. That would certainly be something i would like to look into
here's a video by the way...........The 2004 CTS-V in this Video has CAI, Headers, Exhaust, Tune and made 357 rwhp. This is on the low end because ive seen some hit 370 with the same mods and heard of a couple hittin 380

04 Cadillac CTS-V putting down 430rwhp with exhaust and a flywheel only? That must be some flywheel because Ive worked on LS engines for years and ive never heard of an LS2 CTS-V making that on exhaust and flywheel alone.From factory, LS2 CTS-V's make about 310- 330 to the ground. 100RWHP from flywheel and corsa exhaust alone is pretty hard to believe. Maybe with headers, CAI, and dynotune it can hit about 360-380. But still not 400hp
2004 and up Cadillac CTS V's own the shit out of camaros. My boy has an 04 with nothing but a corsa exhaust and lightweight flywheel and it has 430rwhp and the 6 speed. Camaro = Weak.

@offroad03able it's gonna take more than "a few mods" to get 180hp out of an engine and quite a bit of extra money. even then, the camaro will still be significantly heavier than the viper. that means the camaro will have to go well over 600hp to make up for the weight defecit and be able to run with the viper. let's not forget btw that the viper is doing all of this stock. if i take your approach i can still mod the viper up and the viper's engine has more power potential than the camaro's
@offroad03able you know alot of people think that. all of them are wrong. you see dodge has 20 years of experience making high performance v-10s and chevrolet has 0. also, the dodge vipers engine was originally tuned and designed by lamborghini back when chrysler owned it. this gave dodge an amazing base off of which to improve the engine. as a matter of fact, i'm pretty sure the viper's v-10 is the most powerful naturally aspirated v-10 in production today.

@offroad03able yeah well please do post a video of the dyno because i'd be interested to see if it gets to within 100 hp of your predictions. i have a friend with a shelby gt mustang. he got it procharged. predictions were 500 rwhp cuz he had done no other mods. they tuned it and everything, came out to about 400rwhp. stock was 270rwhp. so yeah i want to see your results

@offroad03able i haven't lost anything. with a viper you don't just pay for performance, you pay for style and exclusivity. the camaro was cool, now there are just so many of them that it's just another car. that will never happen with the viper. then you can take it to the track where your camaro can have its 675hp and will still lose to the viper. and i don't even want to talk about the ACR which utterly destroys just about any other car on the road today.

@offroad03able oh no don't worry. i'm not going to bed just yet. if your camaro only had 425 hp then either it was a really old really shitty viper, or the dude was pitying you and didn't want to make you cry. a camaro is a muscle car and normally i like muscle cars. but you can't compare a muscle car to a true sports car like the viper. in a straight line its not that hard to make a car really fast. but the combination of everything is what makes the viper the better car, period.
@offroad03able i still have quite a bit. does a camaro hold the lap record around Laguna Seca? no a Viper does. does a camaro hold the record for a production car around the 13 mile nurburgring in germany? no, again, a viper does. camaro's are only good for one thing, acceleration. viper's are good for everything, acceleration, top speed, handling, braking, etc. you know, all the stuff cars are REALLY measured by.
@Edrox5000 watch this video it shows you that a stock viper v-10 is not as good as the v-8 corvette zr1. they both have the same acceleration, the corvette goes 3 mph faster, pulls an extra .05 g's on the skid pad, stops from 70 mph to 0 in 21 less ft, and has an extra 38 hp. It really is a better car.
@MRGTADUDE i've seen it and yea technically a corvette is a better car. but frankly i don't care. what i'm saying is that chevy is running out of ideas on how to use a v-8 to beat a v-10. now they have to supercharge their engines just to compete. dodge still hasn't had to resort to that for anything. brakes yeah, vette's are carbon ceramic, viper's aren't. base price of stock viper, 88k, base price of zr1, 100k+.
@MRGTADUDE now if you want to compare apples to apples, that would be the 100k ACR vs the 100k ZR1. The ACR laps the Virginia International Raceway 4 seconds a lap faster than the ZR1. it also laps the nurburgring 4 seconds a lap faster than the ZR1. 0-60 is the same or faster if you get the hardcore package. i admit top speed is now limited to only about 180 because of the spoiler and stuff but that doesn't really matter.

I've a '05 Viper and got beat by 1/2 a car 50-140 by a 505whp Gen 5. The Camaro's are no slouches!
PS - You guys have to factor in gearing as well. 3.07's for the Viper vs the Camaro's 3.46(?) if I recall correctly.

@800hennessy they are badass but the old vipers had ALOT of issues, overheating bein the worst, and for some reason you wont see too many with more than60 or 70k miles. the acr is bad but keep in mind that, that 600 horses only get you to 171mph. to me they are getting ugly. the 96-8 gts where a thing of beastly art, the new acr looks like a hot wheels car, cool but looks like a 5 year old designed it.

He went from a 45 roll in the second run and had to shift almost instantly. It don't matter whose got better what, it matters whose faster. @mikey00426 100 horsepower does not make up 600 lbs. take this for an example, my buddy has a 08 Corvette, Dynod 684whp.. another buddy has a 02 SS Camaro, 408 stroker, turbo'd. dyno'd 742whp. It also has some things took off of it to reduce the weight. it has no rear seats, no spare tire, no jacks or anything. The weight difference is around 140lbs because they weight around the same weight. The corvette pulls so hard on the camaro..and the camaro has 58 more horsepower at the wheels.

That must be some flywheel because Ive worked on LS engines for years and ive never heard of an LS2 CTS-V making that on exhaust and flywheel alone.From factory, LS2 CTS-V's make about 310- 330 to the ground. 100RWHP from flywheel and corsa exhaust alone is pretty hard to believe. Maybe with headers, CAI, and dynotune it can hit about 360-380. But still not 400hp

@offroad03able it's gonna take more than "a few mods" to get 180hp out of an engine and quite a bit of extra money. even then, the camaro will still be significantly heavier than the viper. that means the camaro will have to go well over 600hp to make up for the weight defecit and be able to run with the viper. let's not forget btw that the viper is doing all of this stock. if i take your approach i can still mod the viper up and the viper's engine has more power potential than the camaro's

@offroad03able you know alot of people think that. all of them are wrong. you see dodge has 20 years of experience making high performance v-10s and chevrolet has 0. also, the dodge vipers engine was originally tuned and designed by lamborghini back when chrysler owned it. this gave dodge an amazing base off of which to improve the engine. as a matter of fact, i'm pretty sure the viper's v-10 is the most powerful naturally aspirated v-10 in production today.

@niabush09 well he was saying that if ford made a v-10 it would be better which it wouldn't because dodge is more experienced with v-10s. chevy is already having to supercharge their engines (i.e. corvette ZR1) in order to keep pace with the viper. now if you want to compare the experience behind ford's v-8, that's different. the corvette has been around since the late 50s. the viper has only been around since the early 90s. chevy's v-8s are starting to fight a losing battle.

@MRGTADUDE now if you want to compare apples to apples, that would be the 100k ACR vs the 100k ZR1. The ACR laps the Virginia International Raceway 4 seconds a lap faster than the ZR1. it also laps the nurburgring 4 seconds a lap faster than the ZR1. 0-60 is the same or faster if you get the hardcore package. i admit top speed is now limited to only about 180 because of the spoiler and stuff but that doesn't really matter.

@offroad03able hahahaha, do you really want me to keep going? the actual engine itself came from an american pickup genius. it had to be converted for use in a sports car though so they got some input from lamborghini. all the components were still american and developed by chrysler. btw, that junk engine is also the largest engine put in a production car.

@offroad03able no see you try and cut off the argument because if we keep going you know you'll lose. the bottom line is that dodge vipers hold world records. camaros don't. unfortunately the viper is going out of production this year. but don't worry, it will be back in 2012 with an entirely new chassis, suspension, engine, body, interior. basically everything is redesigned. i admit, it won't be all american anymore because it's suspension will be from ferrari but that's not exactly a bad thing

@offroad03able oh yeah because having an overpowered rwd car with no downforce and minimal grip is ideal for track days. vipers have the widest tires manufactured by michelin. that helps to explain vipers' manic 74mph slalom speeds. camaro manages 66 in a slalom. my mini cooper slaloms faster than that "junk"

@offroad03able hahahahaha that's a good one. incase you haven't noticed, vipers aren't exactly meant to be eco friendly. and if you can afford to buy a viper, then i don't think that gas mileage is a top priority, or a priority at all. and the fact that it gets 22mpg highway isn't really what i'd call bad for a car with an 8.4L V-10 and 600hp.
