Thanks for this video. We've been searching for stats on Rolls Royce Spur/Spirit safety, such as Driver Death Rate, or even on specific accidents and how the cars' occupants fared. Nothing seems to be out there. Does anyone compile such information?
I have old copies of Rolls Royce's owners magazine, Quest, in which there is reference to obtaining an exception to crash testing for the U.S. market. This was in part subject to not exceeding the import of a certain number of cars per year. Rolls Royce's would simply state that the safety of the vehicles maintained parity with its contemporaries and was "fully adequate."
Thank you, 0tt00tt0! That's the most information anyone has given me, so far.
I wonder whether "parity with its contemporaries" has any real meaning, and if RR was as safe as Volvo and Mercedes S-Class.
One would expect that SOMEONE has been out there, meticulously analyzing wrecked Rolls Royces, to see how the cars and their occupants fared in various accidents. But so far, I haven't seen evidence of any such analysis/record keeping.
Hello. I can tell you is this. In 94-95 I lived in Ft Laud, Fla. The RR dealer had a 1988 RR Silver Spur that had been in an off-set head on collision at 50-55mph w/ a truck! Driver and passengers were safe and walked out of the car! The driver's side front end was nearly gone. The driver's side front wheel was bent side ways! The interior was impeccible.
The dealer was keeping the car as long as possible to show customers how safe RR motor cars were. It was impressive.
Thank you, marquisbear!!!!!! That's precisely what I was hoping to hear, relayed in a way that was most useful. Apparently, there is more to RR safety than sheer weight: apparently 'Planned Failure' is part of the plan. That's what Scandinavian cars had (back before EU trade regulations doomed Scandinavia's auto industry).
@marquisbear Glad I could answer your question. Hindsight is so good...I could kick myself for not taking photos of that car. I mean how many RR/Bentley Motor Cars do you see wrecked? For me that is it in 49 years.
My father owns a 1997 (or 1998) silver spur. He's had it for the past 5 years. The thing I love about is that even for an oldie, it's got class and charm that modern day vehicles do not have. My favorite car
he... wont believe it!!! my sgool, a boy... his dad sells coke and has his money in swiss and luxembourgh!!! he has a rolls phantom coupé, a lambo murciélago... and today he came in his bently continental gt speedster, and he has a maserati to... that boy is like so spoiled... I still cant believe my eyes!!!
Splendid, another language-challenged chap who is confusing us with abstract remarks and fanciful car ownership.
I'm thoroughly pleased to hear that you have a 'sgool' - but am still trying to work out who 'he' is... Shame 'he' won't believe what?
'His' father sounds interesting, there must be more money in being a soft drink vendor than I thought! Not sure if it's wise to invest half of those funds in cheese though... Still, if it pays for a 'bently'... (is that a bespoke Bentley?)
you said "i already drive a phantom" I know that a Phantom is the car to be driven in while the Bentley is the car you drive. So if you drive the phantom and are not driven in then you're the chauffer. That means it's not your car, you just drive the owner around. There's a difference between owning a phantom and driving a phantom.
On another note, why do people even bloody BOTHER posting messages like 'Oh, my friend's dad has fifty Ferraris' or 'My (insert extremely expensive/exotic car name here) is much better than your shitheap, ha!'.
why is the steering wheel on the right??

You're correct son, these old things aren't worth much.
The amusing part about Spirit/Spurs is that their entire value is a mere fraction of a Phantom's yearly depreciation.
Let's just assume that you do have a Phantom. Are we likely to see it on YouTube any time soon?
Or are we to assume that you're a 24yr old who is frustrated with insecurity and a lack of personal achievement.
If the latter scenario is accurate, I'm truly sorry for revealing this reality. Certainly makes for good reading!
