I've always found this song powerful and haunting. When it came out in 1975 I naively interpreted it as a lonely crazy person sent away to a sanitarium begging to be brought home and be fed with love. In the following years I caught on it was about drug addiction, probably heroin withdrawal (my arms are so hungry). On the full track the female backing vocals suggest the soothing siren calling the addict back to the drug as he suffers through withdrawals only wanting to return to the familiar.
