This piece is used in day care centers during nap time. It's very relaxing and inspiration to children. Especially when it's played so well as I've just heard.

i guess I meant beautiful it all its meaning- a child's hands drawing with a crayon, or an elderly arthritic grandmother soothing her fretful grandbaby, or this incredible performance-

Now, feet are another thing altogether! There's probably a good reason that-past the age of childhood, we cover them up. unless you're into that sort of thing that is.

An absolutely amazing playthrough! You seriously made my day with this man. I'm going to have to learn this myself to give it a "James" feel(I'm James :D). I've never heard it so well played on the site so I'll have to say, this is the best recording(I know of....so as not to offend anyone). Absolutely lovely Brings back memories - As a high school student, I was considered a relatively good pianist and 'To a wild Rose' was one of my favorite 'encore'. Back in those days people loved this kind of music...not todays 'hip-grinding' shoulting' light--shows'! Thanks for posting this!

MacDowell was one of the Romantic style pianists as well as composers (My God! He KNEW Lizt!) he would've demanded that any interpretation have feeling. And this did! Loved it!

This is one of my favorite pieces of music, and I have a number of recordings in various arrangements from solo piano to small ensemble to orchestra, and I've never heard it played any faster than this. In fact, I've actually heard it played just a wee tad slower, but never twice as fast as you're claiming it should be performed.

Tempo is a quarter at 88. Everyone plays it slow...well except for James Barbagallo. This is at a quarter at 54.

I'm just saying. I love MacDowell a lot...but people play this piece too slow. Maybe you should listen to James Barbagallo's version...he is after all, the only pianist to record every single piano piece written by MacDowell.

I didn't say this was a bad interpretation. I actually like it. Ideally, the tempo would be quicker. Right now, it's a bunch of 1 bar phrases, when they are really 4 and 8 bar phrases. If played with the same quality but with the larger scale in mind, it would be quintessential MacDowell.
