Heroes 3 was amazing but I always somehow preferred heroes 2 and I now I know why. The style really captures each town perfectly and although I like heroes 3 a lot, the music here is unbeatable.

Hmm... so this is where this music officially belongs? Funny. In the version of the game I had, this was the Necropolis theme. And I might add I think it fits that town MUCH better, seeing how it's very slow and sad sounding.

Homm II and Homm IV have voices in town's themes (Leitmotif), and sometimes I don't like male voice. Homm III doesn't have voices, only music, but music in that game is the best.

Homm III was truly masterpiece, in every way: gameplay, graphic, music...

Well by graphics Minecraft is a great example but it is in 3D I guess. There are still smaller companies that makes good games without abusing the graphics engine :) It's too bad they are very few :/

@CrusaderGundam There were a lot of different versions of Gold released that had different music, also people who couldn't use the CD music were stuck with the midi soundtrack that accidentally was swapped between towns. This is from the official Original soundtrack ^_^

Oddly enuff - number 4 is my favourite to date...the music was epic, the gameplay was GREAT fun, and actually focused MORE on the HEROES...making the title of the game more applicable! ;)

ever since Homm 4 finished they scrapped the old history for the new junk and took our great kingdoms away. My only love was heroes 1, 2, 3 and 4 in part. Even 4 had it flaws since they marked it as the "end of old heroes". Im sorry to offend some but I know little about 5 and 6 and thats the way I intend to keep it, they will never scale up to the old heroes of might and magic (1-3 and some of 4) or the original might and magic series (series 1-8) : /

I had this game in my younger years, this is the Barbarian theme. The fact that you downloaded the game would probably be the reason why the music is messed up.

@annethe5th agreed on the gameplay, but to me, the soundtrack of HOMM3 is just as good, if not better than the HOMM2 soundtrack. The necropolis theme is legendary :) Might and magic 6 and 7 soundtracks are also delightfull.

HOMM3 was such much more developed than HOMM2. Not saying HOMM2 is bad or anything, but HOMM3 was just amazing in every way, truely a groundbreaking game!

@Leny1777 Actually it is the other way around. HOMM2 was grossly unbalanced, with some factions being nothing more than cannon fodder or at best underdogs.

HOMM3 was really well fleshed out, and depending on map, any town could put up a show.

I liked the mood in HOMM2 more, but when it came to a nice competitive game HOMM3 was the obvious choice.

@tfoksieloy Yes you are correct but you said it the other way around. Heroes of might and magic 2 depending on map size and ground effects. Heroes of might and magic 3 is nothing but hordeing resources, and whomever gets them faster wins. Inferno might be the weakest race but might be the best to rush at resources because it has a level 2 shooter. Not all castles have a level 1 or a level 2 shooter : /

the homm 2 cd also plays in the stereo, I liked to listen to the soundtrack back then, until my cd broke like 11 years ago. that was the end of homm2 for me =*(

@rachskald See, I really couldn't get into 3. The music was top-notch and the scenery and castles were pretty, but the combat sounds and animations were all wonky. In combat the footstep sounds didn't match the footsteps of the creatures, and the way they moved just didn't look good.

It wasn't a bad game by any stretch, but considering the level of polish on pretty much every other game in the series it's these (admittedly small) things that just made me unable to truly love it.

Well, in Hmm1 there's no real reference of good vs. evil. But, in HMM2 for the purposes of the campaign plot, barbarians are evil

In Homm 2. The Barbarian faction was the counterpart of the Knight faction, so my guess is that the Barbarian was on the evil side (neutral, whatever) and Knight good. You can also say that the Knight faction described order and duty, where the Barbarian faction represent might and bravery.

I have the original Heroes 2. This is the barbarian music. Click my Necromancer video to hear the Necromancer music. It does have the same man singing in it but it's a lot more dramatic and parts of it remind me of old 50s horror movies. Fits perfectly =D

No, it doesn't, you are just too used to it:) Actually on the classic HoMM 2 release Barbarian and Necro town themes were mixed up.. Compare this sad tune and the epic glorious one from the Necro town, you should feel the setting/music mismatch. And yes, I also have the original HoMM2 CD with all the redbook soundtracks..

Hamdullidiot probably only ever played with the crappy MIDI sounds (which shuffed songs), which means he never got to play the way it was meant to be played, with the Audio tracks from the original game CD.
