Just so you know.. your guitar is not in standard tuning in this video. When you played a G you actually played an A#.. I think you're tuned a half step up. Thanks though!
i have a feeling that people ask waht tuning its in because it doesnt sound like off the album. if you really want to grasp that exact sound, you need a pitch shifting pedal or detune pedal. i use a GNX4 digitech pedal and it works briliantly.
just shift it 12 steps up with a mod level of maybe 20 or 30 so its not so drastic sounding. this effect alone has brought tears to my eyes while playing...truly beautiful.
Great vid by the way and great voice! nice vibrato
Where did that singing voice come from?? LOL You're speaking with this big, thick, deep voice, then you sing and whoooaaaa --- it's a totally different sound! Amazing.
thanks alot man, i've had the first bit down for ages but never knew how to do the thrashy bit, but after watching this vid i've got it to a tee.. much respect , great vid
Anyway, I've been trying to find out which is exactly the Cm variation played by Thom in the acoustic version of this song. It is not a common Cm. Do you get any ideas?
Ian, thanks so much for this. I have been playing this song for a decade on acoustic with the parts broken up to try and capture what johnny does on electric and its such a pain in the arse. This version does flow much better on acoustic and still captures the angst and bitterness. great job.
Wow, thanks loads. I really appreciate that - was so reluctant to do a tutorial (makes you feel a bit exposed!!) so I'm really happy and flattered that it's been of positive value. Thanks
Ian, thank you so much for posting the tutorial clips. I remember when I first saw your rendition of this song and it was added to my favourites immediately. It's faithful to the original but you've successfully made a great sounding solo version - you should be very proud as it's been watched by an awful lot of people! I enjoyed your down to earth and friendly tutorial style! Thank you again.

Great tutorial but any chance of tab for the chords please. The camera angle makes it hard to see in parts.

x-3-x-0-4-3 and x-3-1-0-3-3 also work, but I don't think any of these is the exact one in the mtv live acoustic version...
