  • This is one of the most beautiful art forms in my opinion . A gorgeous wooden masterpiece that also produces wonderful music, it is truly extraordinary!

I tip my hat to all of the luthiers out there for keeping this art and tradition alive.

  • I'm planning to buy the GAMA professional violin from this site, but I'm pretty cautious about buying things online. Is this site 100% safe?

  • good video - thanks

  • The songs make it sound like it should be renamed "The Misadventures of Wood"

  • what are the songs that appear in the video?

  • i whant one so badly but sadly the cheap violins arnt good :/ and dont last long and ugh i really whant one T^T

  • i want to smash one :D

  • Wow so thats why my gliga sounds soooo good. That guy is good at his job.

  • This makes me appreciate my violin even more.

  • Oh wow. These intruments are beautiful.

  • these are not handmade? They are using machine to do them~~~

  • @kuvhlubkojibleegxwbo What machine? Oh you mean those hanging off his wrists holding the tools?

  • what a video. very very nice. the guy is highly experienced.

  • I have one , and it has such a powerfull sound that u can hear it from over 300 meters

  • Beautiful! I want one....

  • I could not stop watching this. to me, woodworking is awesome, especially a master at work.

  • I purchased a Gliga bass today and it is incredible

  • @bigredone342 bass = fucking sweet lol. expensive from him eh?

  • lol, did he fall asleep at the end from all the hard work or is he just hugging his instruments for being so beautiful?

  • That is quite awesome.

  • The song at 2:10 (the slow calm and peaceful song) is from George enescu titled Balada pentru vioara

  • being an artist myself i find it truly wonderful to see others working with they're hands.....absolutely beautiful!!!!!! i commend you sir! just wish there were younger folks who thought the same..... in a land over run by robots and computers...we are a die'n breed.

  • @eracerxxx im 14 and i wanna do this so bad. im learning. my uncle is a banjo and mandalin maker so hes teaching me. hes also made a guitar. hes very good and appreciates it so much and i do too. wood is aweome. i love it. i just love that sound that the file and the chisel and the plane makes. its just awesome. really a good connection. i wanna make my own double bass one day...

  • @venskus2009

thats cool i hope you get super good at it....maybe one day you'll make me one! :)

  • @eracerxxx thatd be alright with me hahah. i wanna get good at it. then teach my children and start a side buisness.... maybe...?

  • Violins are available at gliga.com and start at about $900 but I would save some money and go for one about $2000. The quality is no comparison.

  • And you tell to yourself : "He started with two pieces of wood..." This is just magnificient.

  • Im 15 and I have been looking for a violin because I really wanna learn to play :) when I seen this on your website I knew that I had to buy one from you! So I'm saving my money and I looking forward to getting one soon! :D

  • beautifull butt wath is the song?

    itss so greaat :))

  • i thoroughly enjoyed this video=] im 15 btw!

  • i am romanian from cluj and my grand father had a stradivarious from 1713 it was stolen after he died. that vilin is worth over $70,000

  • wow.. i agree with dkmkartha ...

without this beautiful intrument its like a journey throught desert..

or in general music, doesnt matter what u play ,music just fills u up and a song you play can express feelings and emotions, it just reflects who you are(:

  • For me, watching the crafting of an instrument is a sacred sight. A thing of beauty that will most probably create so many fantastic emotions in the hearts of the listeners for many years to come is being created out of living wood--to me it is just fantastic. I have played the violin as an amateur in the Indian style for decades and the joy I get from playing in my solitary moments is simply fabulous and is like going to church. Maybe that is why I romanticize the craft so much. Thanks.

  • wow how much is it?

  • he is the next antonio stradivari

  • I wanna buy one of his violins too! He really puts all of his effort in it! Amazing!

  • Impresionante laburo, que maestro!!!

  • I have a Gliga violin too, a beginner-to-intermediate instrument. it was only 2.5 times the price of my first violin but sounds about 100 times better. Watching this makes me want to practise more. Thanks!

  • @thegraduatee where'd you buy your violin?

  • I'm dazed and absolutely delighted with your violin making!! God bless people like you, dear Mr. Gliga

  • Haha, at 2:55 it looks like a love scene with him and that upcomming cello

  • @claus93Sethsen you dirty bastard

  • @RozzaCello1112 i said love scene, not sex scene :P u probably are the dirty bastard for thinking that

GRACIAS..SM

  • The wood is the only thing I could think because you do a fine job. Still something missing??

  • Ive played Romanian violins. We have hundreds of them and Im just wondering after all this work. What are you missing??

  • My home country

  • now if you had an encannel gouge you would be truly a happy happy man

  • This is the man that made my violin. I am so proud to play it. It is fantastic.

  • I am utterly speechless, this is truly some great craftsmanship!

  • wow.. well crafted.. should sound great and be very expensive :)

  • My home country :) I have just recently picked up the violin, my sister has two and has played for a two years so i took her older one a week ago and started to teach myself, I've played guitar for 8 years and piano for 5 but I must say i love the violin

  • Does anyone know where I can get any of the sheet music to the music that's on this? It's driving me insane! I can't find it anywhere!!!!!

  • I have a Gliga 16" viola that I purchased for about $400 a few years ago, to be a "second" viola. The relatively inexpensive Gliga replaced my viola that had cost several hundred dollars more in the 1960's. I use the Gliga for my playing in a regional semiprofessional orchestra.

  • romania has many tallented persons

  • @mikigrecu ...and you don't gots good grammer

  • nice violin you had made

  • its a cello violia

  • isnt this a viola?

  • what is the music called?

  • romanians kick ass

  • Viola! It's called a viola you idoit. However, this was not a viola either, it was indeed a violin, learn your instruments man.

  • its a cello fart face

  • Indeed it's a cello, otherwise I would like to see the guy or the girl who would be large enough to use it as a viola!

  • nice and informing video. thank you

  • What size violin is that?! It looks huge!

  • full of course! but what ever

  • alt violin?

  • oh never mind i forgot the name

  • The smaller one looks like a full size violin,

the big one is a cello I guess .

  • Yeah thats what I was thinking. Anyhow it still very beautiful.

  • wow! that's so awesome! i want a violin like that! one with carvings! that would be awesome to play!

  • beautiful violin!

  • I have one of Gliga's violins, I got it from a store in Utah, its his Maestro series with carvings, it is so beautiful, with such fine craftsmanship and plays just a beautifully. I think he is our Strad of the day!

  • if you dont mind what was the cost?

  • probably around 20,000-50,000.

  • rupies

  • seriously check out e bay

  • those are his factory violins. his very high quality stuff sells $20,000+

  • oh really so i go on e bay and look for what

  • one, do not buy instruments online, especially for extremely expensive fragile things. go to a real violin shop, but you will not likely find a handmade gliga there, but rather some other extremely expensive handmade violin just by a different maker.

  • really! I had the chance to play on one of his personally made ones. teacher bought it for discount 2,000!

  • nowhere close!

he sells these in the US for up to $7500 only!

the cheapest ones are only $1600!

    check out the website!

  • @txmusician13 you have no idea what makes a great violin mate! it's definitely not the price tag that's for sure...

  • @Dansback21 really? hope I can buy one of his violins.

  • this is like watching people make chocolate. good music as well

  • Thank you for the video 5*.

  • swoon. he just makes violins

  • este cool

  • Wow, they are truly beautiful. Amazing craftmanship involved which I never trully appreciated before now.

  • Can Anyone tell me, (us in fact) which musical pieces are on this video please?

I'd be very grateful if you tell us, which one is at 3:10

Thanks, and let me tell you that your violins are awesome!!! Hope I can buy one of yours in future, need to save some money!!!

    Beautiful violin Art!!

  • At 3:10, its just parts for the sides of violins that he's steam bending

  • ESPETACULAR SUA ARTE!!!

  • My father made violins as a hobby. I have the first violin he made at age 17 in 1914. And the one he made with a thin ebony trim around the edge inserted as is shown in the video.

At 7 years of age these scenes went in and seemingly out of my mind as I played with little curls of wood on the basement floor. At 70 years of age today, this video brings it all clearly back. Thank you so much.

    Merilyn (nee Rutherford)

  • I love your story and I'm feeling glad for you, that beautiful feeling must be difficult to describe. As I'm an artist and a musician(i'm also building my own guitar at the moment)I even feel hardly to say how much I like this video and love to see someone do such artistic work like this! Thanks for adding this video here.Regard!

  • you have to be a patient man to do a violin!

  • True craftsmanship! BRAVO !

  • Amazing hand work. Deeply Impressed.

  • what piece is being played?

  • Ciprian Porumbescu's ballad at the end, hope I'm not mistaking.

  • e va bat romanii

  • that looks fun!

  • Looks like my violin..

  • Use the online store.

  • Now I feel obligated to learn to play the violin well.

  • now that's about loving your work

  • Ohmygod. Beautiful string instruments. Now I wonder, how is the sound? :D

Oh yeah, is Gilga violins available in Singapore?

  • look at the beautiful artwork on the violin!!! Truly a master piece!

  • which piece is this by enescu?

  • Where can I buy Gliga Violins in Canada ? Help

  • Quelle belle image !!

En plus on peut déjà écouter la sonorité

d'instrument ce qui sont passé votre main sacré.

le bruit de votre travaille est plus bel que celui

    de violon....c'est un magique.

    Merci

  • Best nine minutes in my life. I love masters as this at work. Bravo my friend.

  • Me, too! Very nice!

  • Fack, such a beautifull violin, with those stripes. That's what a call "art".

  • wow!!!great hand craft!!!

    did got make by mechanic

    ?

  • And thus the art of a fine creation is reduced to a production line process. Power tools, sandpaper, rows of pre-fab ribs... ugh! where is the individaulity? how can the true love of the craftsman shine through the instrument?

  • back in the 18th century.

  • You are as stupid as they come. Do you think Antonio Stradivari made his violins at home one at a time pouring his "true love" into each and every instrument? No... there was a production line and careful quality control... just like this video today. The only difference is that we today have quicker tools at our disposal.

Also the vast majority of this video shows hand-tools. Nothing is PRE-FAB as you say, simply working in an optimal way which people have been doing for centuries.

  • its sad to think that this is how these great and mysterious instruments are made

seeing the violin parts being clamped together just makes me think why i am playing violin

them cutting up the violin makes me want to scream!

  • Good sound, comparable with "kashif sarangi" clip

  • chiar nu stiam cata migala este ... bv pt video

  • I want to play one of those..

  • Good!

  • funny how it changes from a violin top to a cello top!

  • violin making hbjr

  • where did you get thats tools ? :D fantastic vid

  • i want those textures on my violin =)

  • when i grow up, i want to be a violin builder just like him!

  • those are gorgeous instruments. the artistic detail is beautiful.

  • This would have been a perfect video is the music didn't keep changing. The point of music with videos is to have a constant flow to make the interrupted images seem normal. Regardless, watching him was really cool!

  • Thank you, balauria!

  • Anyone know the name of the song playing in the video?

  • Look for song by this composer George Enescu, romanian greates componser

  • These violins look fantastic but have a lifeless dull sound. I never liked my Gliga Maestro and I sold it because I was never going to like it.

  • Gligas certainly have a sound of their own that is not to everybody's taste, but lifeless and dead isn't at all how I would describe it.

Which leads me to wonder, did you replace the shipping bridge and soundpost? They may very well sound lifeless and dead until you do that.

  • pretty nice =)

  • and to think that the luthier must not mess- up not even once. impressive.

  • Check out another video on violin making:

    "Story of a Luthier"

  • where can i get one of thoes violins ¡¡¡¡¡ ther so well made , can some one tell me wher can i get one¡¡

  • whitehorse music sells gliga violins. i am not exactly sure where it is but they have a website. google it =]

  • That was Awesome!

  • I think Chinese violins fetch better dollar to dollar value.. Europeans also have many VSO and the cost a lot, while Chinese for the price we can get at least small studio production instruments... Cellos , is even worse

  • Go to e-bay type in violin and every piece of garbage VSO on their thousands of them are from China. Sure if you commission a violin with Scott Cao you'll have a nice instrument. You'll also pay $10,000.

  • Aside from the maybe 1/10th of 1% of Chinese violins that are quality, largely nothing but garbage is coming out of China. And the qualty instruments coming out of China are no cheaper.

  • China is larger than Europe. I suggest you should be selective buying violin from China. Can you imagine how many children are deprived from playing the violin if not for China. I must say, all must undergo careful set-up.

  • There are some very good makers coming out of China I'm not saying there aren't. However their violins fetch a lot of money just like any quality maker. But the fact is like 98% of the stuff coming out of China is crap and definitely factory and not handmade like your earliest post stated. Most VSO's (violin shaped objects)come out of China, and the poor children who have to learn with these things because their parents don't know. Learning the violin is hard enough,a VSO makes it much harde

  • I gig on a $200 Chinese violin. Not because I have to (I own European and American antiques), but because it is the best violin.

I will, however, add this caveat, I have more invested in the setup than in the violin; and I'm not using it for classical music.

Assuming a playable instrument violins are "good" or "bad" only with reference to the music you are playing on them.

A Strad is a piece of junk for many styles of music. Everything is relative.

  • You are way overreaching when you refer to a strad as an acoustic instrument as 'junk' for any application. come on!

  • My best among my six violins is the Gliga Genial. not the Gliga Maestro, I can't yet afford it.

I haven't tried Eva Pirazzi strings but I use D'Addario Helicore, it sounds good on it.

  • That is amazing man, always knew the amount of detail (especially small ones) are crucial.

  • I wish I had his ENERGY! Must be the gypsy air there! I love watching the scroll work. What a whittler!

  • Gypsies are just another minority (only 2.5% of population) in Romania and Gliga is not a Gypsy. The word "roman" (eng. Romanian) is derived form the Latin "romanus" meaning "citizen of Rome". The Romany (Gypsy language) word "rom" means "man" (as in Human). Romanians are Caucasians, Gypsies are mixed Indians/Caucasians.

  • i have one question:are those ''S'' looking things at 1:59 where the sound comes from? or are they just decoration?

  • Those are called "f" holes. They allow the sound (moving air) to exit, and also helps the top vibrate more freely. They do look more like an "s," but just picture a fancy letter "f."

  • I wish i could make a violin in 10 minutes!

on a more serious note, do you make all your own

chinrests, bridges, tailpieces, and pegs? What is the purfling (sp?) made out of? It looks like two pieces of ebony and one piece of maple?

  • i bought one of their violins
