  • j'adore beaucoup. Grand merci à vous. Bonne journée. Maria DAVID

  • It is just AMAZING!

  • He would be a great tony!

  • He'd be a perfect Tony.....

  • He breathes where he shouldn't and he doesn't hold out most of his notes as long as he should.....and he even goes a little sharp on the high notes. So what's all the hype.

  • Gonorrhea!

  • josh groban would make a beautiful tony of west side story

  • Only Italian blood can sing songs like these.. I can't stand those Irish/English voices.. Nice vibrato but no soul.. Stale and lifeless, like he's only focusing on the technical aspect of singing... No comparison to Andrea Bocelli for example.

  • Lovely

  • I'm impressed with how well he sang this when he was only 21. It is not a very easy song. I'd love to hear him sing it now that he is older and better.

  • For all of you who no nothing about mens voices, he is not a baritone. The lowest note he ever sings is a Bb. A baritone can easily and frequently does sing a low A or even a G. I'm not being cruel just stating a fact. He is a tenor. And that is coming from a professional vocal coach of 20 years. You shouldn't say something if you don't know what you are talking about.

  • @sashijoe Actually, the lowest note he has sung (to my knowledge) is a G2. You can hear it in "Higher Window". I read somewhere (forgive me, I can't remember the article. This was some months ago) where it was discussed that he is basically a tenor with baritone range. He can also hit as high as (and again, this is to my knowledge) a B4, which you can hear in "February Song." I don't mean to sound as if I know more then a vocal couch of 20 years, but I do know a bit about Josh.

  • @Chessloverforever He seems like a tenor, but the type of voice he has is similar to a baritone.

  • @thestainisgone485 no he's not he's a baritenor, very unusual but he is basically a baritone style voice with the tneor range extension

  • He's a little bit flat on some of his held out notes. Still, gotta love his voice!

  • My name is Maria <3

  • ok i sang this song at a college audition and I thought I did pretty damn good....and then i heard this

  • some satrting talking to me in the middle of this song

I shouted "YOU JUST INTERUPTER MY EARGSM"

  • @AcaciaRaff ouch blue-eared

  • hot

  • Maria by Josh Groban now that's talent

  • HE NEEDS TO PLAY TONY!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TaylorandAmy1 eh, hes a baritone

  • I miss My Maria.... The most wonderful lady I had the honor of caring for. I miss her so much. I LOVE YOU MARIA.... I miss you so much. I love you forever my friend.

  • I have heard the voice of Jesus!

  • Quite dreadful. It sounds like it was recorded in a cistern. His phrasing is not too good either. Basically his voice isn't free. It doesn't ring or flow. Reverb can't hide everything.

  • im not a huge fan of the beginning...it sounds like someone else's voice is there?? but the chorus is incredible!!!!!

  • im in love with his voice.!!

  • The reverb is a bad attempt to hide the fact that he can't hold a note in a bucket.

  • omg i would pay to go see him in West Side Story!

  • TOO MUCH REVERB.

  • This is the time where I thank my parents for naming me Maria

  • I should send this song to every guy I've ever liked, then he knows how wonderful me, Maria, is :D

  • omg at last he is singing the song from the musical I was named after. I love having the name Maria for this particular reason.

  • I'm Hire Joshh ! :D

  • i wanna be able to sing top B so badly...

  • @itypesmiling do the "nutcracker".

  • WOW.I love my name(Maria, obviously) and I love Josh Groban. What more can I ask for?I have Josh saying my name all the time! How wonderful life is..

  • is this the guy from RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE?? LOL just kidding

  • Oh. my. god. Stunning, even almost 10 years ago now.

  • I FOUND MINE . :D

  • he has the voice of an angel, just sayin

  • I toast the consumate lady the ONLY woman I have ever loved .. My ex-wife . . . Maria

  • @ashsilva I hope you all find your own maria at least once before your life :)

  • to those who are complaining about his hair...I just saw Crazy Stupid Love and his hair looks horrible, the curls work well for him

  • whoops I just turned a little gay

  • @ViewtifulRekk

don't worry, you can return to normal when he stops singing.

  • Karel Gott ist best

  • my middle name is maria :)

  • Why thank you, Josh! (My name is Maria:):):))

  • Josh has such a classic voice and such a cute face, but the hair has got to go. Doesn't go with this beautiful voice.

  • @Ladydi243 I like Josh's mop top!

  • @MadamPresident23 ... That is your prerogative! But a new GQ look would be a positive move.

  • @Ladydi243 i love his curls :)

  • Very good your video!!!

Look for Felipe Peletta also singing this song and many others.

  • @Pharvey94 His falsetto is gentle; I reckon it's kind of good. It takes a lot to produce well and articulate using falsetto; and he pulled it off.

  • I'm a great Josh Groban fan - but on this song it sounds like he's singing from the bottom of a well - too much reverb.

  • An extra to my last response - thank you so very much Josh - you give so much to all your fans -and to me - Dee/Devon/UK/xxx

  • I just adore you .. Dee From Devon, U.K.

  • He really is an exceptional singer!

  • Thank you Lorenzo, a great birthday gift...

    God bless you brother!

    m

  • Nessa música a voz belíssima de Josh Groban fica em evidência com todo seu potencial e fantástico talento!!!! Perfeito!!!

  • Josh is great as usual!

I hope you LIKE MY VERSION. As a 16 year old tenor from the U.K

    Many thanks. George Mercer :)

  • Csodálatos a West Side Storyból a Maria c. rész.Láttam filmen Natalie Wood volt Maria az is gyönyörü volt de ez a srác gyönyörüen énekel.

  • so wait, whats the girls name?

  • @werdchester hahaha nice xD

  • @werdchester Susanna?

  • @werdchester i think it was Betty :P

  • @werdchester Elizabeth.

  • Maria... I get it.

  • I don't like the way he sings Maria but when he sings other things he is awesome...

    Sorry

  • Does anyone thing he looks a little like Nicolas cage?

  • FEEDBACK: HE IS NOT GOOD LOOKING, MORE LIKE UGLY ..BUT HIS VOICE IS GREAT!!!! NOBODY'S PERFECT

  • @Danodandan Honestly, in my opinion he's one of the most beautiful and charming men on earth. He deserves a special place in "Mental Pornography" folder on my computer. I swear!

  • @Danodandan ...you're a moron. I'm a straight guy and I have to admit he's one handsome fellow. If i could choose between having his looks and his voice I'd have a tough time deciding. Most of this slide show are from his gawky teen years, he HAS been doing this since he was 17, but now he's filled out more and styled himself up...no, not ugly in the slightest. Now, Megan Fox...that's one ugly minger. Also Nick Cage, to the ignoramus above >.<

  • JOSH GROBAN IS ONE OF A KIND ! THE BEST CLASSICAL OPERATIC POP SINGER EVER !

    HE IS THE LEGEND ! ! !

  • It's OK. A similar performance is by Mike Eldred, who has better phrasing.

  • @mikenike504 Mike Eldred is a tenor? is that correct?

  • Singers/Performers like Josh and Andrea (Bocelli) just prove that music can be awesome and freakin good without any special extras or dance moves/shows to WOW the audience or listener.. Josh is really talented and has an amazing voice!! Another dude I just stumbled upon is another called Josh on joshuakunzechannel here on youtube.. sweet voice as well..

  • ouch josh. dont go for that Bb

  • 1:30 :D

  • Train wreck.

  • Why isn't my name Maria D:

  • @winnconway Mine is, but I use my middle name...I have to say that Maria is beautiful in this song... but then again, Josh can make any song sound so beautiful!

  • @EmmaRose473 Haha I feel special just listening to it :')

  • @winnconway Im so happy mine it!!! you can always legally change it!

  • @winnconway

    Mine is!! :D

  • I was expecting a crack on the high note... and it happened

  • Look at the video of Carreras and Bernstein recording this song.....

Berstein and Groban would have last like forever to record it....

Not close to what it should have been......

  • I like Josh for the most part, but that high B flat sounded nearly disasterous

  • @markmywords21

    I understand.

  • It only sounds beautiful because you're singing it, Josh.

  • Grande interpretazione...

    Grazie :)

  • beautiful !!!!!!!

  • Josh Groban is the MAN!

  • the most beautiful rendition this song ever known

  • For me~ a pleasure. I'm grateful to hear the gifts of others....My heart is warm and my soul; giving. Josh gives of himself for the pleasures of others....and exudes his own personal love....it's beautiful.

  • I aprecciate your effort, Josh! And I love and admire ur voice BUUUUUUUUUUUUT

this song has not been written for U! Definitely :) TONY has a lighter and more delicate voice.

    Gonza (Rosario city, Argentina)

  • Never knew he did this one - awesome to hear his version!

  • He's flat--not good!!!!!!

  • booooooooooooooooooo

  • almost everything in this song singed by Groban sucks

  • @bladiyo This guy is sooooooooooooooooooooooo, overrated. You can pull ANY Opera singer his age and they would sound at least twice as good, heck any Broadway singer could sing just as good. Not a hater, just stating the obvious.

  • @ranttheworld Opera isn't the golden standard. For what he lacks in operatic technique, he MORE than makes up for in his ability to portray expression and emotion. That's what makes him so fantastic. It's not his sound as much as it is his amazing interpretations. He understands it's not all about being technically sound with the voice. Opera singers will sing songs that will wow my ears, but Josh will sing songs that will wow my heart.

  • @VAAMusicalMike

I love Josh, but Opera IS the gold standard.

  • @unopeneddoor Opera is the gold standard for technical prowess. There are so many opera singers out there with these perfected voices that fill the opera houses. Countless people go after voice majors, graduate, go for something like opera, and get into it. But many of their voices are just missing an element of emotion! Luciano Pavarotti was easily one of the best voices in the world, but he has never made me cry tears of joy. Josh has, and that's why he's so famous. He sings from the heart.

  • Comment removed

  • @unopeneddoor I respect that you like Opera so much. I do to! Opera is something that is just insane to get into and it is essentially people pushing the voice to a super human level. The top voices in opera are technically invincible! 16th runs, perfect tonality and placement, next to none bad habits...but yet...it's as though they have become TOO technical. I'm sure it's a matter of taste as well but I have never had an operatic aria make me feel an emotion like Josh Groban.

  • @VAAMusicalMike

    Okay fair enough.

  • @ranttheworld Josh is not overrated. There are so many singers who won a lot of Grammys but their voices are half of Josh's. And why do you compare Josh to opera singers when he is not one of them? It doesn't make sense. Anyway I accept your comment but your oppinion is not obvious for me and I know a lot of people think it in the same way. What is obvious to me: the quality of this record is really bad; Josh was about 20 here; maybe you don't even know Josh's 5 CDs and other works. He's amazing.

  • @bladiyo

    It's SANG retard./

  • The high note sucks.

  • The high note sucks.

  • one Word JOSH.......he is the amazing siner for me in this World...wonderful

  • its María. :)

  • EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I LOVE THIS SO FLIPPIN MUCHO AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH AMAZING

  • If you like Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, or Il Divo you will love Joseph D'Alessandro Jr. Joseph is an authentic Italian lyric tenor with an amazing voice you will surely love. On his debut CD on iTunes he sings classic tenor cover songs…in both classical and pop styles such as "When You Say You Love Me", "Nella Fantasia", "Nessun Dorma", "Mama", "E Lucevan Le Stelle", and "The Prayer" which he sings with the incredible soprano, Helene Lundstrom, who sounds even better then Celine Dion.

  • There is someone else on this at the beginning.

  • Love his tritones....

  • dear dear.... what an unfortunate rendition from one of the most overrated singers of our time.... what is it with that weird vibrato he has, he sounds like Mr. Ed....

"Wi - i -l - l - b -b - u -r - r -r"......and he goes sharp here as well, AND there is no melody to any of his phrasing, just that hideous vibrato.... his voice is not up to the beauty of this song, not the skills needed to sing it beautifully

  • @MCSLongIsland

First it's an old recording from before Josh was famous. He's learned a lot since then.

His Vibrato is excellent. How anyone can say his Vibrato is hideous is laughable.

Josh Groban is the greatest pop singer of his generation.

  • It sounds like somebody has overlapped two versions or is singing on Groban's recorded voice. Last note is a pitty.

  • omg omg I found him singing my song. At last my joshy is finally singing the song that my name came from. And its the best version ever.

  • oooooh, wow, I think I'm in love with this rendition, just gorgeous!

  • Any girls name "Maria" fainting with joy right now? =D

  • @Psalm15LifeGoal you got that right

  • my favourite man voice

  • This young man has the voice of an angel! Thank you for posting

  • Born to sing...

  • Excellent offering from an incredible voice, even back then! And it didn't hurt that he was singing my all-time favourite song from my all-time favourite 'musical'!

  • Josh Groban is my favorite singer.because he have a great voice, cute and gentleman .:) I love his voice mmmm .more song's pleaseeeeeeeee....for all your.

    ...

  • The Young Josh Groban

  • Who are the others messing about?

  • He breathed inbetween a Maria! Why would he do that! You are never suppose to cut off a sentence or phrase or whatever! It could have been prevented if he didn't hold that one maria so long. He did very nive on the high notes, didn't crack and he wasn't off at all. Great voice!

  • OMG.....so glad my name is MARIA !!!!

  • nieśmiertelny utwór w znakomitym wykonaniu! Dziękuję!

  • great rendition with a cold voice of josh groban!!!!!!!

  • Lovely :D Way to go Josh groban ♥

  • his voice moves me...like it makes my heart melt

  • Josh Groban did a great job with this song especially considering how hard it is to sing. In fact, his rendition is better than most I've heard. However, if you want to hear a flawless performance of this song sung by a master, you must make an effort to find Michael Crawford's version - he makes it seem easy.

  • I want to change my name to Maria because of him

  • Thanks my friend for this lovely song you send me this morning : ) I love it

  • he's so cute :D

  • Oh my God!!! I just love this man!!

But...who are those 27 guys who didn't like it? O.o

  • At 2:04 he is way off key.....and he doesn't sing it like the original in one part...so he oughta learn how to do it properly before he does it in public again.

I give it a 4 out of ten.

  • @ThePurpleHarpoon actually, i'm pretty sure he's right on pitch. he goes right from the note he's singing to the next note, which is how the music is written. but the sound does go nuts right about there. i think that's what you're interpreting as a missed key. and lots of performers don't do songs like the original performer, it's called artistic license.

  • Comment removed

  • This is great!!! Outstanding!!

  • marria marria marria

  • AWAFUL!!!!!!

  • That was hardly what I'd characterize as a bad "crack," considering that this song is practically impossible to sing for 99% of tenors. He was a little off-key from time to time, but for a live performance, overall, he did a pretty damned good job. Anyway, all you critics should stop bitching. I doubt any of you could do a tenth as well.

  • this is an amazing song. im 15, and im working on this song to sing in my schools pop concert. its incredibly hard, especially towards the end. i can barely sing the highest notes.

  • @justie1220 i'm performing this song for nyssma in a few weeks, breathing and rythym are key elements you need for this song. work on those and you're golden. and to other commenter's, this is a difficult song, Josh Groban is an amazing singer, and judging him because he had ONE crack in his voice is ridiculous, this was a beautiful performance of a very challenging song.

  • I love him and I'll marry him someday :D

  • Ouch. Cracked high note.

  • @Mooorhe To be fair: It's such an awkwardly written piece, especially with all of the high notes. Particularly towards the end.

Props to Josh for tackling such a weird song.

  • I know high schoolers who can do that better than this. We did it at my school a few years ago. And our tony DIDNT crack on the high Bb. Josh groban of all people should be able too. If he cant sing the song he shouldnt have recorded it in the first place.

  • @Matthew3330 But that's asking from constant perfection from a person.

Professional or not, there is no way in Hell anyone can be perfect

    all the time.

    So he cracked.

    Big deal.

Should an actor not perform on stage or in film if there's a chance they might go up on a line?

    NO.

    Give the guy a break.

  • Look, the guy is famous for a reason! Because unlike in this video, he doesnt mess up. Do you think Povarotti ever cracked at a live event? NO. and thats why he was famous. Do you think kristen Chenowith messes up live? NO. Thats why she is famous. Being a respected singer he should NOT mess up. Thats all it comes down too. Yes perfection is not reachable. I fully understand that. But leave the cracking to rehearsal. If there is ANY chance you will crack live, dont sing the song. Simple as that.

  • @Matthew3330 actually pavarotti cracked live before. lol

  • @Matthew3330 That's total crap, though. I JUST watched a video with Peter O'Toole and David Tennant, both of them messing up and dropping lines. While I understand those are "film", and not "live", it's the same difference. Just because they mess up, does that mean that these two absolutely brilliant actors shouldn't be professionals?

    NO.

    Mistakes HAPPEN.

Any professional worth their salt would agree.

You don't expect a crack, or a missed note, or a missed line.

    It happens.

    Deal with it.

  • @Matthew3330 Oh. And John Barrowman did this song as well, and even spoke about what he calls "The Danger Zone" , which this song pretty much lives in. He also says, in the pre-song interview, that you just have to hope for the best, and see what happens. It is far from the easiest song for ANY experience of performer. If you're gonna fail, fail magnificently, and don't let it define you.

  • the music in the backround isnt correctly set to his voice. its too bad hes good.

  • he took a breath between ma- and -ria. Other than that awesome performance. I was wondering if there's a recording of this?

  • @seektheforce

im ok with him taking a breath and be able to continue beautifully, instead of brakin voice or pushin an ugly sound

  • Beautiful--way to go Josh!

  • This is great.
