lol i'm amused to find the confrotation over who produced this beat!!! i swear i was just about to post on this asking if nujabes, nomak or tsutchie produced this beat because im 99% sure i've heard this beat before!!!!
it may just be similar bass lines but it has a very similar sound to a song i've heard before. when i find it i will post it here!
It's funny that people are arguing about who should get credit for a song that has live players putting the soul down on the track. Guess Y'all think Tip is a thief and a liar. Guess y'all not feeling Thomas and Rosenwinkel.
I did hear Dilla did most of the Ummah work but he did get credit for that. . .
Anyway I got love for Dilla and Tip. And if Tip didn't put JayDee on, would we know him?
@HeronimousPhunk GOOD SHIT YO IM A DRUMER MY SELF SO I HATE WHEN MOTHER FUCKERS ARE PUTTIN DOWN THE REAL SHIT AND DONT GET NO CREDIT,IT TAKES TIME AND DEVOTION TO DO THAT,GOOD EXAMPLE,ARE THE FUNK BROTHERS FROM MO TOWN,THEM CATS LAID DOWN NUMEROUS TRKS THAT MADE MOTOWN,AND NEVER GOT THE CREDIT.ALL IN ALL J DILLA R.I.P. ONE THE GRATS IN MY BOOK HANDS DOWN!
Gary Thomas( on flute?) and Kurt Rosenwinkel on the same Q -Tip rack? I had to hear to believe it! Q-Tip produced Kurt's 2003 release ' Heartcore', arguably his finest (and boldest) album.
you guys overrate Dilla while you underrate Q-Tip. He's a legend! Appreciate this incredibly abstract sound that he's providing us! And this favoritism of Dilla over Q-Tip reminds me of Warren G and Daz claiming that they produced songs from Doggystyle and The Chronic when Dre composed everything basically (to put it in short terms, there's a longer, in-depth story about this.)
@jermain703 yes he can, ever since he's been dead everybody is calling him the greatest producer when that's completely untrue. RZA, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Marley Mal, Dr. Dre, and DJ Quik are the greatest producers!
@jermain703 yeah man no problem, I dig Jay Dee though. He's made awesome songs for Slum Village, always love em. Though it is slightly unfair for me to fully judge him since he died. Maybe he'd make full albums for artists, because I did dig the new sound he was making. I think it'd be very popular today, but unfortunately he had to pass away.
Check it: This was done a decade ago...by whom...hip hop heads strongly influenced by soul, funk, jazz, rock, blues...paying homage...and this is what you get: TIMELESS MUSIC!!! Good music is timeless music.
dilla and tip been cool with each other. i dont think that tip took anything from dilla without giving credit! on "the renaissance" dilla's name is mentioned! peace
Dilla made the beats for the entire Beats, Rhymes and Life and Love Movement (minus bonus tracks) for ATCQ Same with Tips Amplified.. ALL Dilla He also did some tracks on Phifes solo album
I agree Tip could of handled "Ummah" better.. Sorta took most/all the credit away from Jay Dee
@Armeniacolombia29 J Dilla poduced "Lets Ride" for Tip and Q tip is his freind this album has nothing to do with J Dilla, It was under a project from 04 called Kamaal The Abstract, this album is all Tip Thomas & Rosenwinkel
@UltraDOG17 yeah, if he just assisted in the creative process and didn't lay anything down, it wouldn't be. There are always dudes in the studio who never get credit but who'll suggest things.
@UltraDOG17 Tip and Dilla had done alot of business under the table to circumvent all the legal shit. Tip will buy a track from Dilla but not list him on the credits, keeping the industry at bay and good for them. I'm trying not to say too much about that but I thought i'd clear the speculation. Tip and Dilla are brothers for life and thereafter.
you and me both this song reminds me of a sunny spring day with black kids playing and the adults cookin on the grill Im bout to write a poem lyke shyt

Q-Tip produced this track. No one in their right mind would leave Dilla's name out on an album. His name alone pulls in a whole fan base.

J Dilla did not produce on this CD but produced on the renaissance. I agree with revolutionarywarfare and bulletpain01

why they aint put J. Dilla name on these tracks
