im 17 and lookin for a first car and found a 78 thunderbird with a 302' its a really pretty midnight blue, I PROMISE ILL LEAVE IT STOCK AS IT SHOULD BE AND BABY IT FOREVER TO KEEP IT GOING:)...my dad has a 60 at the moment and in the past hes had a 59,77,78, and a 79. So I'm a born t-bird lover:) I hope to get it next week. great video
Oh, what a georgous body style. The first race team I was ever on raced a '78 in the bomber division. (pure stock) Championship winning car. Hearsedriver, that screaming bluebird of yours is the BOMB!!!!! That car is SWEET!!!!
Another video from hearsedriver of one of my favorite cars! (I commented previously on your forgotten midsize mopar video.) I always thought that this year of the T-Bird was by far the most beautiful one, though I think every year of the car has something to like, except maybe for the much-maligned 80-81, lol. I need one of these to go with the 77 Charger! (wishful thinking).
Great Video and Music......."thumb's up" I love these car's they will never make these ever again...These years of the Ford Thunderbird were beautiful car's. Thanks for the Post.
These are my dream car as I still want one. The big difference betwee the 77-78 and the 79 verision was that they altered the tail lights as I did not like the 79' version. So I have old brochures to help me find a 77 to 78 version.
nice green with white roof at 3:05 ... and the square birds 58-60 are actually pretty small when alongside other cars from the era, including 61-66 birds... these were the first time Ford got the T-bird right since 66 ... even the straps to make the trunk look like a suitcase...
ford sold close to 1 million t-birds from 77 to 79. add the LTDII and cougar to it. a real hit for ford. can't seem to figure out why they are not as popular? i would get one if i could.
Ah man I this video makes me miss my '77 T-Bird!!! (black, red pinstripes, red leather, and mags) Had it from '81 - '86, and spent a lot of evenings dragging the gut in it. ( haha) . Absolutely LOVE the looks of the big, classy late '70s coupes when sported up with chrome mags like a lot of them were in the '80s...(oh sorry, I'm reminiscing now. haha) Even with today's gas prices, I would love to own a '77 or '78 T-Bird in cherry condition again! :) Thanks for the video!
LOVE YOUR T-BIRD! LOVE THOSE TWO SPECIFIC YEARS AND WISH I COULD FIND ONE....I HAD A 1976 PLYMOUTH FURY SPORT AND REGRET SELLING IT BACK IN THE EARLY 90's. THANKS FOR THE GREAT VIDEO!
I think these Birds are getting their due based on some of the higher dollars they command on sites like ebay. So they aren't totally forgotten.....at least not for me.
great tribute! i was one of the only guys in my high school that loved these big cars! i had a bunch... a 77 plain jane, a 78 town landau with t tops, a loaded 79 town landau and a 79 diamond jubilee.. that was written off by a buddy... great vid!
@hearsedriver1968 Question about your '78. Did you change the rear taillight panel? I ask because only the '77 had the continuous connection whereas the 78-79 had the split where the reverse lights were placed. Thanks.
@eazenyce The 77,78 tail lights were identical. The only change from 77 to 78 was adding the birds on the headlight covers. The 79's had the split tail lights with backup light in the center and a different grill. I was in high school in the late 70's and worked at a Ford dealer. I remember the details of these cars well. :)
I Currently own a 1977 Thunderbird :) I'm 18 so its hard for me to appreciate this quite as much as you older gentleman but i love my car, But its always for sale if you guys want shoot me a message and we will chit chat. Anywho
Stunning vehicles! It's a shame that US cars have morphed into the miserably boring bucket of bolts that they have become. My all-time personal favorite: the 1977 Oldsmobile Toronado............art on wheels!
why isn't my 77 on there? lol. but mine isn't that good looking either and im strapped for cash. can anyone give me some tips or idea or a website that i can customize or make my t-bird look better? i really like it but its bad on gas with that big block. i kinda of want to sell it but im not sure, id like to get some input if anyone can help me?
My dream car from high school as I love to have one of these classic cars! The 77 through 78 were the best designs, as changes were made for the 1979 on the tail lights as I did not like,
@patsaxon I never cared for the 79 changes either, and therefore didnt include them in this video. Perhaps later in another. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@hearsedriver1968 It's funny that slight changes to the 79 were enough for people to notice and not like. I always wanted a 77-79 as a kid and decided I'll get one last old car. I'm getting a 77 soon and it will be my project car with my son. He'll get the car of my teen dreams when he's 16. So I get a year to enjoy the Bird. Thanks for posting. Your Bird is beautiful!
@mattg889 Dont matter what she looks like now buddy, get it on some video, and share it. These are really nice cars regardless of the wear they may have.
wow!!! GOTTA LOVE IT!!! i remember these cars, the late 70s T-bird and Cougars, Fraternal TWINS!!!,,,, im sorry,, take the back doors off an LTD and you had an ODD set of TRIPLETS, these were stil decent everyday drivers when i was a PREteen in the late 80s early 90s, an there were 2 in my neighborhood that i remember. 1 guy hada cougar, i rember it cuz we hada new 89 cougar, late 88, so it caught my eye, an the otha guy hada BIRD wit exh. he loved doin Burnouts, that guy was the man! smokeshows
Picked up a very sad 77 at a swap meet. Does not work and I probably saved her from the crusher. 400 motor, console shifter and sports instrument option. Slowly, she will return to the road. I have a long way to go, but these great machines are worth saving.
had one of these for 10 years until 1996...the thing was a tank in the woods, then I repainted it. Couldn't imagine was gas costs to run them now at about 14 mph...lol
My dad had a light green one with white top and interior.Everytime he gave it gas on the highway it would clatter like a diesel engine. He blamed it on unleaded gas.
i would not say these birds are forgotten ..hard to come by today , but not forgotten ..i always liked these birds ...years ago i almost bought a 79 heritage fully loaded , but just could not part with my 69 mercury monterey 2 door hard top all black i had at the time....if you get one of these birds loaded down with alot of options they really were a poor mans mark 5
well i dont know much about cars...my boss' son gave me his old 78 T-Bird that had been sitting for 3 yrs and i got it up and running with the help of my cousin and my buddy so this will be my project car and im hoping to have it lookin as good as yours someday soon enough...great job on the car man always been a T-Bird fan and you have one of the best lookin ones ive seen.
god your car is awsome man i love it! i recently got my grandmas 77 after 14 years of field wear =/ for 16th birthday lol couldnt see that beast go to the scrap yard runs and drives now =) old 400 ftw lol
@rhett99rebel Thanks for the comments! Great work on preventing the loss of automotive history. Restore them, never recycle, Global Warming is a line of shit dreamt up by enviro-nazi democrats that want us all in Chevy Volt toy cars. LOL!
Just the name alone suggests a toy direct from Mattel hey
Awesome i have the remains of a 78 t bird.Best looking cars of the 70s and that includes the early 70s. They look better than most of the other T birds period the 50s ones being the exception. Remember the shitty 1980 model that replaced these.
@xXNukeMeXx Good luck with your project Thunderbird my man. Be sure to share pictures/video with us, we in the community of big birds got to stick together right? LOL!
BTW.. I HAVE A 1978 T-BIRD. IT'S A WORK IN PREGRESS BUT I'LL HAVE A VIDEO UP SOON. SO FAR I LIFTED THE REAR ABOUT FOUR INCHES, DROPPED THE FRONT TWO INCHES, DUAL 50 SERIES FLOWMASTERS ON SHORT STRAIGHT PIPES, EDLEBROCK 4BB CARB THATS SITTING ON A HIGH RISE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND CHROME AIR FILTER THAT PORTS RIGHT THROUGH THE HOOD WITH A 7INCH TALL HOOD SCOOP OVER IT. I STILL NEED TO DO SOME THINGS BUT IT HALLS ASS :)
@edw125238 LOL! That was meant as a jab to those enviro-nazi democrats in Washington that used our tax dollars to bail out a failing GM, then spent gobs more cash on trying to gag us all with a Chevy Volt that can only go 40mi on a charge.
I have my classics, but drive a Toyota Corolla, and Nissan Titan V8 , both are certain to run circles around that electric P.O.S. Have a great day buddy! Thanks for watching!
