@johnross12 Emersing yourself in a religious delusion may make you feel good but it doesn't make one mentally healthy - in the same way that taking cocoaine makes you feel good but it is not healthy. The point of psychology is to help people live without crutches, whether they be drugs, religion or ideology. We give psychology esteem today because it is proven to help people live a fully life. Renunciation of self is a foul concept - why would you renounce yourself, renounce yourself to who?

I will add that I never said every answer every dogma and truth is meaningless either. There are many "truths" on which the Church has changed its stance by the evolution of time and knowledge. That doesn't make the church initially faulty for not originally coming to the right conclusion. It makes the church a living institution--one that ever grows by following what Christ is calling us to do at any given time.

I could not disagree more. There are many times when I interpret the Scriptures and tradition through the eyes of the "Love God and Love your neighbor" mentality, I am overcome with guilt. Interpreting through the two commandments Christ commanded, though a simplistic route to theological answers, can sometimes render answers often hard to follow.

Truth is not relative. But the way we interpret dogma/scripture is through our eyes of culture, socio-economic status, knowledge, etc. It is indeed difficult to love as Christ commanded, if one is not willing to take a step outside one's own preconceptions and biases

Would the Latin Mass and the Teachings of Jesus be a reasonable attempt at ecumenism. I love the art, architecture, music, and ceremony of the church - yet when I look at the historical absurdities and atrocities - I am deeply saddened, disillusioned, and even horrified. There is a good side and an evil side to the church. Can't we excommunicate the bad side and elevate the good side? Many people seem to be jumping out of the church frying pan, and into the new age fire - or just giving up.

What, in God's name, is an "international mass"? I am all for ecumenism, but this man who's neither a priest nor a bishop, shouldn't take part of a Mass vested as a bishop. It's just wrong since this could confuse the faithful. Mr. Rowan Williams might be a good, decent Christina, but he is not in the truth and surely is not a bishop.

While Christianity is evaporating in Europe, and the Roman Church is on the ropes (as it well should be) with countless accusations of abuse of all kinds- you find it appropriate to discuss the validity of the Archbishop's orders. The sacraments are not magic, and I would question the validity of any church that has so horribly violated the trust given it.

i am not too sure who this iotaunam1 person is. Obviously a Catholic who is still upset by what happened between Henry VIII and Catholic Church hundreds of years ago. I think this video is a great example of Christians coming together in One Name. I am an Espiscopalian, and I hope that one day our two Churches will once again be one. Jesus said "No one is good, except Dad Alone." If we belong to Dad, we must believe in Him. "Ubi Caritas Et Amor Deus Ibi Est" "Deus Est Amor" Love Unifies NOT Divides. Dad is ONE. What Dad wants to see is His Image in His kids. We're His kids. We're His Images. Our simulation of His Image is UNITY. Jesus said: United, We Stand. He doesn't like "Divide & Rule." Psalm 133 says of UNITY. For no good reason the Archbishop, being Dad's kid, can't do the Procession with Dad's other kids in Lourdes!

The reason why "Dads kid" (Rowan Williams) should not be processing with real Bishops in Lourdes should be obvious:

Firstly, he does not even believe that Our Lady appeared to Bernadette, otherwise he would be Catholic!!

Secondly, he is not ordained, and has no apostolic succession - he DOES NOT belong to the priesthood of Christ's Church. He is no more a Bishop than the mail man!

Thirdly, this gives him the idea that he is OK to continue with heretical beliefs in his false church!

This "Ecumenism" is false! We should all love one another, but nothing is to be gained by engaging in intellectual dishonesty! Catholics need to share the truths of Christs Church with all heretics, schismatics and non-believers! We do this out of TRUE love and charity in order to save thier souls. I have read both and fail to see the inherant contradiction between the two or the contents on Unitates Reintegratio. Pope Leo did not declare infallibly on this matter as you well know - if that was the case niether women or violins would be heard in the liturgy!! Did not Christ come to eradicate the unnecessary the in's and out's of religion that oppressed people? You don't understand Catholic Dogma, since you equate it with the "thousands of pages of the Catechism" ( I would like to know which Catechism you have). Dogmas are Truths revealed by Christ which cannot be denied. they are not simply made up, nor are they fallible. Not all practices, traditions and doctrines are Dogma. For instance, the Trinity is a Dogma. If one would reject this or any Dogma he is no longer Christian -period. This is protestantism: the rejection of dogma.

Yes, Christ eradicated the "unnecessary", but Dogmas are truths revealed by God, and therefore can never be considered superflous, or rejected in any way.

Christ sent the Apostles to bring the Gospel to all nations:

Matthew 28:20 - "Teaching them to OBSERVE ALL THINGS whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world."

He did not say just teach them the necessary parts - as if some where not so.
