  • These are absolutely gorgeous works.

  • Hey what is the painting at 3:31???? what is it called I can't find a picture of that one anywhere on the net I want to put it as my desktop wallpaper.

  • I'm jealous! Have not seen a Rothko yet!

  • James. There are many Rothko sites in my hometown of Portland, OR were he spent his early years in the USA.

  • thank you

  • @trixxxxxx26 You’re a Butthead. Like a complete Butthead.

  • see "rothko generator"

  • Rothko's palette got darker in the late 60's because he got sick of being labeled a colorist.

  • First time I saw these paintings, in 1988, I stupidly cried. If you stand close to them (as Rothko wanted the viewer to), you are literaly engulfed in art and it is a rather scary experience, makes you feel very small...

  • Exactly how many Rothkos are there, the truth?

    .

There are some in London that look exactly the same as those you are showing there; and the ones I saw it Houston are nearly identical.

    .

Did he have a factory or some such thing?

    .

Now that Rothko has your attention what are YOU thinking; in six words (no technical comment just something personal) please.

    .

  • As I understand it, there were actually three sets of murals painted for the Four Seasons commission. He didnt exactly have a factory but was known to be able to finish a painting in a very short period of time once hed figured out the color schema and format.

Read James Breslins bio, many of your questions will be answered,

    JK

  • Thanks for you response; I'll check out his biography.

  • David Anfam in 1998 recorded the existence of 836 works by Rothko on canvas.

  • haha, i thought you were going to knock over one of those angels' harleys! a great intro to another great vid, thanks!

  • Correct me if I'm wrong as I haven't been there myself but it isn't Rothko's studio (where he killed himself) actually the one to the right of the one you filmed with the triple doors as that's the one which appears in James Breslin's book and a period newspaper article. Otherwise, good video, the painting you show at the end is my favorite.

  • You may be right. I didn't have the exact address when I passed by the 69th Street studio, but I know the 222 Bowery studio.

  • 分享的快樂,遠勝過獨自的擁有。

  • wow, i'm dizzy now

  • 05:20

    isn't that a painting of the letter " O " ?

Is THAT a GREAT Rothko painting ?

Damn if I know why or how

  • you lack the right to say anything negative about mark rothko.

  • Hey chandru1103,

As Americans we are guaranteed the right to freedom of speech. Regarding art and aesthetics, beyond rights its a responsibility to express your opinion. So, though we may disagree, peoples opinions should be respected, (even if theyre wrong)

    JK

  • well they are very wrong....its like hate speech...i don't like hearing it....oh and im honoured that you said something.

  • Thanks again. I would appreciate more stableness and more calm handling of the camera though.

  • LIKE YELLOW PRESS

    YOU WERE RUNNIG sound tired?

but rothko combination of colours are SO POWERFULL

  • What is it about Rothko's paintings? They would seem to be just combinations of colours - and yet that's not it at all. They are so extraordinary somehow. When I saw the black over blue painting,I experienced a huge emotional response. His paintings are so incredibly beautiful! Quite stunning!

  • Thank you.

  • thanx for sharing
