  • I Love it! I am over 50 and was really afraid of going natural. So I started looking for women my age that were natural on youtube to no avail. Thank you for this video. I have been natural now for almost a year, did the big chop out of necessity. Braids and all of that. I am trying to get to year two to see how it will go. I do not want to go back the "creamy crack" as they call it so yes thank you for this video. Keep it up!!

  • @msiptygr Wow! 15 years. That is great. You should do some videos. I would love to see them. I am up for trying any hairstyle (I always feel that I don't know until I try it). Most styles that I have tried and seen on younger YouTubers look great on me. I just love being able to try different styles. Thank you for your comment.

  • @naturallyroz Thank you so much for your comment and sharing your journey with me. It inspires me to know that the journey doesn't have to get tired and boring. I feel free also and I love being me.

  • @prettyasnatural It doesn't make a difference actually. I think it's all in people's perception. Sometimes it is in our own personal perception but it is an issue that needs to be addressed.

  • @sheilag50 Isn't there a saying that age ain't nothing but a number??? I think I take that saying to heart. LOL! Thank you for the comment love. :-)

  • @sophisticatedtw I so agree. No limits right?? Thank you for your comment. I appreciate you.

  • @MsAdriannes What length are you at now? Waist length is my goal. I have to check out your FB page and I think I will email you, so I can see what regimen you are using. LOL!! I think a blog for women over 40 would be AWESOME!!

  • @supynorr Thanks! Now I have something to look forward to.. 3 years? That is awesome. Can't wait to get there. I am embracing and enjoying everyday! You rock! Thanks for your comment.

  • @TheSalami123 Sorry for posting so late. I have had a lot going on. I am glad that we can be ourselves in such a society that is geared toward the opposite. Thanks for the comment love.

  • @ladiemistic36 Congrats on your big chop! Make sure you keep me posted on how your journey is going. I know what you mean by loving it. Thanks for your comment.

  • @tyspruiel I am so glad that you didn't let the opinion of others determine who you are and what you do. I am glad that you received positive comments. I have not had many negative comments as of yet but I also am not going out looking for such an encounter either. I love the versatility of our hair and I can say that I am enjoying my journey. Blessings to you! Thank you for your comments.

  • sorry My posts are backwards. Talala Spruiel

  • I love my natural hair and wish I would have done it earlier. But then again..life is about exploring things on your own without having other opinions. I did not need my friends thoughts or advice. I have tons of pictures on my fb page. My name is Talala Spruiel

  • Hi Twinkie. I just now seen this video and I am 46 years old and actually did the big chop a year ago today. I never wore wigs, weaves or anything throughout my journey. When I embraced this I embraced strength and courage and was ready for any negative comments. (Our own people can sometimes be the most brutal). But only positive comments were made. If I had to do it all over again I would.

  • I am 44 and started 6 months ago, just did my big chop and I am loving it.

  • I'm 54 natural and loving the freedom to be me.

  • I'm 51 and loving mine. Been natural for 3 years. Embrace it and enjoy it!

  • I'm 56 and natural. Goals is bra length. I agree with what you said. we do need more women our age posting and videoing. I wear low buns when I wear my hair. Mostly I wear wigs as they are more age appropriate for me personally. I have pics. on FB if anyone is interested. Next year when I'm more comfortable with my natural results I may start videos of my style regimen email me at johndavisplessatyahoodotcom. Maybe some of us can link up and start a blog

  • Amazing video! Keep up with sharing your thoughts! Nice to see others think the same out there! WE GOTTA DO US! GO Ladies!!!!

  • Wow! I'm just happy to see women over 40, I'm over 50 so you know I feel a little left out when I see the younger ladies. Glad to see you rockin it too. it's not in our age, its in our style and we can rock it too!

  • What difference does it make if your 20 or 50 and natural?? Does natural hair say you have to be a teenager to style it?? JUST SAYIN!!

  • Wow I never thought anyone felt like that I went natural the first time at 38 I did a big chop I felt so free but was unable to embrace the look so sadly I permed again..next big chop was 40 have not gone back since I was loose natural for three years then I locked. Up four years n now loose natural again for 2 years I'm enjoying this journey...I did different things with my hair just because I am free n natural I can Do anything I want with my hair

  • Glad to see someone raise this topic. I am almost 60 and have been natural for over 15 years plus. YouTube has been great help to me in learning to style and manage my hair.

Biggest problem now is finding age appropriate hairstyles. As you said most videos are by younger folks. Thank you so much!

  • @finallynatural1, I think that is why I really started this channel. I am over 40 and I still have some learning to do but most importantly I feel that I am still me and with that comes fun, hair, fashion, etc.... So let's show it!! Blessings to you!

  • Thank you so much 0001beee. It is challenging at times but soooooooo much fun. Congrats to you on your journey.

  • I'm 41 years old and have been natural for now 6 months and love it!! I personally don't care what others say. I wear my 2 stand twist, twist out, yes loving myself!

  • @maximuslyricus, I agree. It is a turning point for me. The longer I am on this journey the more I see that it is truly about me and no one else. I am doing me and I am loving it. Congrats on journey! I know that it is about your two year anniversary now. Sorry for posting a response so late. I will share what has been going on with me in a video today. Thanks for your comment.

  • @kalexander43, I am always looking for age appropriate styles too but I do just want to try some styles for fun!! I am loving this journey. Thank you for commenting.

  • I'm 49, natural for 16 months & loving it! My husband loves my hair even more than I do! I don't think it's ever too late to go natural, especially with all of the great hair care info available you YouTube & the blogs. My hair has never been healthier and regardless of what others say, I'm going to grow it as long as I can. I also think that natural hair gives us a natural youthful glow. So go for it! Grow your natural hair and be proud of it. You have my support for sure! :-)

  • Hi! I'm 47 and have been natural for nearly 10 years. Yes the well meaning friends will sometimes make you feel as if you have lost your mind, but stay on the journey, stay on the path. Your hair will thank you and your body will thank you. Glad you brought this topic up!

  • Hi. I'm over 40, and have been natural for approx 22 months. I'm also an avid member of the youtube natural hair community. Based on my experience, I think that women over 40 are probably more prepared to take the natural hair journey, than are women under 40. We are more sure of who we are and what we want. We're less likely to be concerned about what others think. As long as we're open minded, I can't think of anyone more fit for the journey. I know I've passionately embraced mine!

  • Thank you for posting I decided to go natural at 42 now 43 and is always looking for age appreciate hairstyles.

  • First of all, thank you for raising the question. I am constantly searching women over 40 with natural hair. I love being natural, I started my journey 14 months ago, I was 44, just had a birthday, now 45. I would love to see more mature women with natural hair styles because I'm not always sure what's age appropriate. Not only that but dealing with 40plus and being natural are two different journeys for me. I plan to do a video response soon, you were encouraging, thanks for sharing, blessi

  • @1stlady2u I appreciate your comment. What you say is so true.It is important to show and learn more age appropriate styles and also show that there are no limits to being natural no matter the age. I am loving my journey and though it is not always success when it comes to styling (as with any one) I am enjoying the part of getting to know my hair. Congrats to you on your journey as well (and I hear you on dealing with being over 40 part). LOL! Cant wait to see your response. Blessings! :-)

  • I decided to try natural on my 42nd birthday (Nov 2010).My only question is will my hair grow as fast as this young generation on YT with this more than 6inch hair growth in a year. I work in an office and my big chop and these delicious curls are acceptable I just want GROWTH and HEALTH....thanks for posting this! I have been wondering the same thing...

  • @SMILEMKR29512 /Congrats on Going natural. I believe that if we take care of our hair then it will grow just as the young generation. The difference is that the word "care" means different things to different people. We all have to find what works for us individually. I know that I must maintain good eating habits and exercise in addition to deep conditioning and moisturizing my hair in order to have good growth and a healthy head of hair. We can do it! :-)

  • I'm a lot older than you, and in the 70's I wore my hair in an Afr (Angela Davis style). You will find that women my age are split. We can remember when relaxer were introduced and how everyone thought they were revolutionary, but as we age, wearing our hair chemical free becomes a necessity. As you age your hair thins, grays and processing (including color) it exacerbates the situation....Not only is our texture gorgeous, but you will probably keep more of it as your get older

  • @javajive01 I agree that things change as we get older. I am going natural because I want stronger and more healthier hair. Years of damage can take its toll, and I dont want to damage it anymore. Also I want to instill in my girls that it is okay to be who you want to be. They only saw their mother relaxed and wonder what was wrong with them. Now they see that beauty is beauty regardless. Blessings to you.

  • I'm 36 and just transitioned during the past year. I think what makes it so difficult for older women is the fact the we have to go to work and can't just go to the offices looking unpolished. I used weaves and wigs to transition for this purpose. As and engineer, I just couldn't take the chance of going into my office wearing a business suit with my hair looking crazy.

  • continued from above: I chopped the relaxed ends a few weeks ago but I'm wearing a wig for a few reasons: 1) It's winter and I need a protective style; 2) my hair length ranges from about 3.5-5 inches and styling is a challenge and 3) I want my hair to grow so I don't want to get into a habit of manipulating it every day. Plus I run everyday. I think the lifestyle demands of older women make transitioning more difficult. Best of luck to you on your transition.

  • @wannafavs I understand you concerns about being in the work place and I thank God for You Tube because it have given me great styles to wear if I am at home, going out to play, or going to a corporate meeting. Our hair is very versatile and I love that. I have gotten so many compliments (even in corporate America) on my hairstyles. I am having so much fun.

  • I think it is deeply rooted in older women to not embrace their natural hair. I know a lady in her 50s who did the big chop. I told her not to worry about what others would say about her hair in the church. She told me this is my head and I don't care what they say. How come she is now wearing a wig and not letting her natural curls be free. I'm not against wigs, but in this situation I think this lady is sending the wrong message about natural hair.

    Topic that needs discussing!

  • @EvelynPrather I so agree with you. It is a topic that needs to be discussed. I know that it can be a different situation for everyone. I am having the time of my life transitioning. There are days that are great and some that are not so great but EVERYONE has a bad hair day every once in a while. Your hair is awesome by the way! :-)

  • @twinkier2 Thank you, I have bad hair days too. I'm learning to stick to one product line and it has done wonders for my hair in a short period of time.

Hang in there with transitioning. Take it one day at a time. Peace!
