As an addendum to what I wrote below, I should say that Imam Anwar al-Awlaki gives very honest, patient, well-thought-out answers to the questions; even dismissing the romanticized (false) tales of his house arrest, ban from public speaking, torture and suppression of religious freedom by American and Yemeni authorities. "Whoever recommends and helps a good cause becomes a partner therein, and whoever recommends and helps an evil cause shares in its burden." (Quran, 4:85)

I am sorry but Imam Anwar al-Awalki never directly addressed the significance of Al-Qaeda members (later 911 conspirators)possibly being present during his talks. The issue isn't whether Al-Qaeda operatives were there (Imam Anwar al-Awalki is not responsible for everyone who shows up to the masjid). What's at issue is the silence/lack of condemnation on al-Awalki's part. Certainly al-Awalki didn't deserve to be locked up but in many respects he is a self-made victim of the post 911 world.

Please provide the full hadith instead of selectively cutting and pasting the parts you like!The prophet(pbuh) told us to obey fasiq rulers so long as they don't commit clear-cut kufr. Brother, he has no evidence and thus he brings random verses and ahadith and interprets them in a way tottally different then how the salaf understood them.

For instance, he uses the hadith "My ummah will never unite upon misguidance" as proof for khalifa only comes when muslims are united on truth! This is indeed a far-fetched interpretation. However, the fuqaha from the salaf understood it to mean: Ijmaa is a soucre of Islamic law as Muslims can't be united on error.

Would you think it is wrong if Muslims weren't allowed to practise their religion in a country they lived in? You would wouldn't you? And that's becuase that isn't fair if you just want to practise you faith. And why can't people always be allowed to do that, whatever it might be.

Well I don't know Shaira, but I know a little about people. Like the fuss your girls kicked up about the veil. Why should veils being banned (not that it was ever about that in Britain) be a problem for them if they understand the way of the society/culture, and the majority, is what works best?

Anyone would think they want more civil and human rights than they would have in an Islamic country. So what are you saying, Sharia only works in an Islamic country? I'm looking for what's fair/equal about it if I'm going to start to learn anything. And I don't think it leaves Muslims wanting things to be equal between themselves and others.
