  • Relax get someone to record you when you are not looking. You have the talent.

  • VERY GOOD ... JEFF !!!

  • Hahaha, don't worry man. You sount perfect.

  • Αθάνατος ΠΟΝΤΟΣ!!!!!!!!

  • I've been listening to Pontian music for decades, and have visited Pontian communities in Greece and along the Black Sea, have danced with Pontian Greeks at weddings, drank and sang with them.

While you're obviously a beginner on the kemence, with time and practice, you'll be as good as anyone who's been playing all their lives. You've got the spirit and style, and that's the most important thing.

    Opa!

  • Hey man,

You're getting quite the hang of this!

I have a VERY important question,

because i'm a musician, (and originally Pontiakos) how did you get the instrument?

did you built it yourself or did you buy it somewhere?

maybe you could give me some tips on how to find one my self

    tnx!

  • @ArisTarlizosHMI I'm noticing this music is getting popular in Belgium too. A good number of Pontians live in your country I'm finding. My teacher sold me this instrument. It's a really great one and love it's sound very much. This instrument was handmade in northern Greece. The maker stamps his instrument Paryadris. I like that the tuning pegs move at ease. This one cost me $1000 U.S. about 4 years ago. Have you played cello before or a similar instrument? Lyra is difficult but very rewarding!

  • @Elinitsam thanks for taking your time to respond man, really appreciate the paryadris info!!

I've played 8 years classic violin and going to 7 years of guitar, and now i'm playing one year the mighty bouzouki, and a few years too, the fretless bass

bùt lyra is special, i know, but still, that instrument experience will help me at least a bit; ive got a very good ear :D

  • You play that thing so shitty! Much like how you play your pud. Can't even pleasure yourself the right way!! OMG.

  • MrRuigni: Okay, I'm aware I'm an amateur player but am willing to bet you couldn't do much if any bit better.

  • @Elinitsam OH YES I COULD!! Its easy shit Im sure!

  • MrRuigni: That's what they ALL SAY until they pick it up and try playing it! You can't just pick this up and expect to figure it out (unless you're very experienced in playing stringed instruments). Buy one online and let me hear you play it! By the way, I went to the University of Montana.

  • @Elinitsam, I know I would though.. I am god I can do anything.. I am better than any frikken diety on the planet and you know it Borat boy.

    Montana lol... like I care??

  • @MrRuigni What's your problem fuckhead? Keep your worthless opinions to yourself.

    MBRAVO RE ELLINITSAM RE

  • Thank you

  • is that violin ?

  • This type of instrument is an ancestor of the violin. It is a folk instrument native to the Pontic mountains region of Anatolia. The instrument varient I am playing though was used first in northern Greece in 1922 by Pontic Greek refugee populations.

  • Hey still watching your videos, and I love watching this. I just wished I could have gotten a lyra, just no money lol! If I was in your area I'd love to jam but I'm nowhere near as good as you (I dont even know how to play! lol) keep bringing the videos!

  • You played very well. I am Turkish and i am also a amateur kemence/lyra player.

    Nice work

  • Thank you. There's so many playing interpretations of this music and instrument. It helps to watch many great players to improve and garner ideas of arrangements and playing techniques. It's great that there is Internet video for this too nowadays. Here in America, we don't have as many opportunities to hear different players live and often.

  • Well if you feel good it's ok I only thought that maybe don't know :). I mean you know :). Take care!

  • Yasou Jeffrey!

    Sounds pretty good bro!

    Keep up the good work...

    Chuck.

  • forever pontos yesuuuuuuuuuu

  • make a video where you play longer:)

  • I need to buy software in order to do that. I can record for about 2 minutes tops. I've thought about making longer films actually.

  • Nice seeing you again :) Is it the cam or you are finer?

  • Lately I've been losing weight not that I'm overweight but am exercising more, more focused on my studies and eating less. Right now I weigh 136 pounds & am 5'8". That totals a body mass index of 20.7 which is excellent (unless you prefer your men chunky)!

  • Great Great.... How long play you!?

  • Thank you Italospontos. It has been two years so far of intense study. Do you play kementze too? What about other instruments?

  • I play only the Pontian Lyra... My best friend is my teacher. He plays 18 Years now and is very very good. But i'm not a greek or a pontian. Eimai Italos... :D But i love the people , the land , the Culture and not to forget.. THE MUSIC... PONTIAKA... 2 years long i hear only Pontiaka..

  • Pontiaka has interested a small number of people worldwide to study it who are of different ethnic backgrounds & cultures. Few enough still to count on your two hands & feet but in time I expect its popularity to grow. The banjo for instance is a folk instrument of African origins but look how many people play it! So your teacher is Pontian living within Italy? I have a girlfriend who is Sicilian but not into Greek/Middle Eastern culture sadly. What villages are your ancestors from in Italy?

  • I life in germany. My best friend allsow. My father is an italian from Napoli. The City where i life is Nuremberg. Is better we write over PM or msn or email.

  • bravo!!!keep on the good work

  • Thank you. I've got to admit these YouTube videos I learn a lot from by listening. The learning videos are helpful too since one can hear the songs/dances played a bit slower.

  • Hey fruit687, Thanks for rating this video 1 * (I'm pretty sure it was you). You're quite a swell guy. However, I'm fairly convinced that you yourself are not playing with a full deck.

  • no, i realy can't belive you 're not a pontian. you even look like one. anyway 5 ***** for this one too. and greetings from greece!

  • :-) Maybe I ought to get my DNA examined? Another person recently commented that I look Greek too without me bringing up the subject. Yes, and this comment was made by a real Greek of Spartan ancestory. Thank you for the ***** rating! I wish I knew more kind and productive people like you closer to home.

  • Sounds good!!

  • Thank you and I like your videos a lot too ;-)

  • Great staff brother. Your a champ, thanks for the comments

  • My pleasure and glad you liked this video.

  • ***** stars ;-)

You are talented man, I really like it. Keep posting more of your art please :-)

    *****

    Jamal

  • Hi Jamal, I have my music teacher to thank and to an even greater degree the composer of this song. The spiritual environment of the monastery and its nearby surroundings I would imagine had the greatest impact on writing such a piece. To say this is 'mine' though I could only wish to be so talented. Thank you for your nice words and ***** rating.

  • You're welcome Jeffrey. Unfortunately, I am still in Lansing busting my ass. I don't know when I'll be back in NYC but probably around Christmas time as usual. Hope you are well Jeffrey.

  • Hi George, The day you come back to Fresh Meadows let me know. I want to introduce you to my friend who I study lyra with plus some other nice folks who would like to meet you. Your friend, Jeffrey

  • Jeffrey that was awesome bro. You have improved alot! Bravo! Keep up the excellent job.

  • George, Thank you. Are you in New York yet? I really want to see you. Regards, Jeffrey
