An inspiring song. I'm a Canadian but have always had a soft spot for Australia, and the Aussies I've had the pleasure of knowing have been a great bunch. Hopefully before I get too old i'll be able to visit your wonderful land. Bless you all.
FABULOUS,i'm english and i'm jealous as hell, you aussies are so lucky to have a beautiful song sung by the most gorgeous voice in the world, good luck to you,but remember we all LOVE JUDITH as well.
love this...i only spent 3 years in Perth, but loved it and it has a corner of my heart...forever!!!! love these guys! my heart is still there. sadly will never return
I can listen to Judith and the boys sing this song all day, I cant help but sing along with them, "I am , you are, we are Australian...., we are one but we are many,...." Judith come to USA and re write out anthem, we are so down in this country, that we need your voice to lift our spirits, as you did back in the 1960s! Make us feel magical once again!!
The black and white film clip at the end of the video is just brilliant. I first seen it on British TV in the 60's its from one of there TV episodes. Great days.Great band.
Australian Federal politicians of all persuasions should realise that the majority of Australians would prefer this moving, and wonderful song to be our National anthem.
Bugger them that say this is just a song, not an anthem. It is what we want. This ANTHEM unites us all and reminds us of our roots. Magnificent song by a magnificent group. Beautifully sung. A song written by Bruce Woodley. I am so proud to be Australian.
Thank you thaank you I firmly believe this should be our national anthem it means so much more to me then the one we have cause we are one we are many and from all the lands on earth we come we share a dream and sing with one voice I am you are we are Australian, The words are perfect and yeah it maybe long but it well worth it cause we are proud to be Australian this song tells us and everyone how much. I think it is in the hearts of people and it really is our National Anthem even if it's not
I agree with Grim, and Michael, this is a song that stirs your heart, and judith Bruce at their best how could this get any better, this song makes this yankee feel a little bit australian , and how proud all Aussies should be of this wonderful song, and this group too. WOW
@grimTales ---- I'm not certain, but I think Judith may have displayed her class act character by giving credit where it was due in perhaps saying, "Bruce co-wrote that."
I've heard "Advance Australia" & this one. As an American, I would choose "I Am Australian" as the Aussie anthem. The informal anthem is "Land down under" or "waltzing Maitia"
@gto66solstice08 my people are English. My Family have fought in most of the wars of the British Empire. We have inhabited England long before records began. Our country has ruled almost 1/3rd of the world at one time. English is the language of business, industry and computers blah blah blah. WE ARE ENGLISH
My Grandparents came from Poland over 100 years ago ... My Father, Mother, several uncles served this Republic in WW2 ... My late wife's people came from Scotland and Ireland 150 years or more earlier ..... My Step- children and Grandchildren all have Cherokee and Blackfoot Indian heritage, as did my blond haired, green eyed wife. My maternal Grandfather fought with Emporer Franz Joseph in the Franco-Prussian War, circa 1890. WE ARE AMERICANS!
After the floods and cyclones we've experienced here in Queensland in the past month, I know many people are feeling tired and low in spirits now that the immediate danger is over and the slow recovery has begun. This song is a salve to my soul. I don't know why I came looking for it but I've just sobbed my heart out for 5 minutes after watching it. I have never been so proud to be an Australian after witnessing our nation pull together during this horrific time.
The only rendition of a "national" song I've ever heard that was anywhere near as moving as this was when Ray Charles sang "America the Beautiful" before the Leonard-Duran fight years ago, about which performance the commentator Howard Cosell opined, "if you weren't moved by that, you haven't got a heart." And as great as that was, I'd say it was about 2 stars compared to 4 stars for this beautiful song. As an American, after hearing this, I'm honored to consider myself a friend of Australia.
Went to Aus this time last year. Spent a month there, and now I can't stop thinking about it. I hope you ( Aussies ) realise how lucky you are.Lovely people in a welcoming land.
I love being an Australian. It's great to be Australian. This brilliant song makes me even prouder. Welcome to our land when you decide to come. Live among us. Learn our culture while teaching us yours. Don't just mingle with your own. Become an Aussie and mingle among us.
There is powerful message of being a united national population .....Would that the left of our great Republic understand, and work to revive the "Melting Pot" that my Polish grandparents became part of.
Bruce,Dobe,Judith and the other Seekers - thank you so much for this beautiful song ! And thanks to vbvbvb088 for the upload - fully appreciate the push to make this the new Australian anthem. I wished we had a similar wonderful Monument for Holland !
Amazing, just for a few minutes at least, this song makes me want to become Australian. Incredibly emotional and moving, as every member of the group is singing from the heart.
"The spirit of this great land..." Let us not forget the first name for our country; 'Great South land of the Holy Spirit' , May God unite all men of good will throughout the world
I am, you are, we are Australian. Let us not forget what this wonderful land has endured and never forget the dreams that our parents, grandparents, great grandparents have fulfilled and done for us to become what we are today
Here we are in 2010 and this song is as relevant as ever!
I think you guys should get together again and have another go at touring the capital cities. Judith's voice is like good wine, the older she gets the better it is!
.. and so is Bruce's expression.
Hearing this and watching the passion in their faces makes one feel how lucky one is to be Australian!
Please consider another tour, you're all too young yet to give up!
Damn near ready to move from the Lone Star State to their country! Incredible song, with feeling and emotion. If you don't get goose bumps, a tear and swell of pride, you're dead!
We are so lucky to have this media to be able to enjoy something so wonderful from days gone by.
Australia day 2010 What a magnificent narrative of everything Australian. It encompasses everything we Aussie are, hard work, drought, toil, accepting of our immigrants and most of all our indigenous brethren. And a great tune
@askinner621 Yes Judith's voice is still as wonderful as always, still very strong and powerful and that every present gentle smile and giggle - she's a sweetie - Aussie's darling
It is a great song and I think it's the best 'all inclusive' song I have heard. It includes aboriginals, and new settlers alike. But not sure it would work as an anthem. Too complicated to learn for the majority and it's a balad. But it can be a 'national song' sung at major events.
This has got to be one of the most moving and phenominal song the Seekers did after their reunion. They are a remarkable group of singers. They are all appealing, they loved each other, worked well together. They accomplished so much. Their chararacter is unmatched in the pop music industry. The emotion brought about by this song is very moving, especially when Bruce was moved to tears. They are simply the best of the best. I love you all.
There is a push here to make this our new national anthem....and JD has come up with more contempoary lyrics for it ('Advance Australia Fair') as well.....
I think it would be so awesome if it were to become Australia's national anthem. can't speak for anyone else. It has been the Seekers who have given me the sincere feeling of wanting to not only come to Australia, but become a citizen of this awesome country. I am sure not everyone is like the members of the Seekers, however, Australia, as a country, has a moving history as Bruce conveyed so well in his lyrics. I would love to see Judith's additional lyrics. You are fortunate to live there
@Michael5191949 You put it so well there Michael. I was fortunate to catch the Seekers four times on their reunion and they were just fantastic. However the last time I saw them in the UK they didn't do I Am Australian. Such a shame!
@teebee1984 Yes, it is a shame they wouldn't do I Am Australian, however, I wonder if they didn't do as an act of diplomacy. The Seekers deserve every ounce of accolades and awards that can be bestowed on them. They have done so much for the Australian pop industry, for Australia and for their fans. I would travel all the way to Australia to hear them. As a long as I've endured pop music in the states, they have the most refreshing style - ever.
@grimTales1 It sounds like "Thanks forever, everyone". I am not familiar with Australian accents, however, and it could be something else. Would like to have the capability of slowing it down. Something appropriate and wonderful, whatever it really is. - a moving moment no matter what.
This should be our new National Anthem
