I always wanted to live in Ann Arbor & came here in '74. What a great experience it's been: including hearing Keith Jackson and Bob Ufer announce Michigan football games. Jackson deserves every bit of the honors he'd gotten. He's amazing, funny and memorable. I hope someone out there is practicing to be the next Keith Jackson and his first job will be announcing a Michigan game. Go Blue!
@tableconnect Yes!! He will never be replaced, college football, and especially Michigan football has never been the same without his voice! Greatest ever!!
In the Gator Bowl game where Woody Hayes punched a Clemson player, Keith Jackson did not have the balls to even mention--let alone comment on--what happened. After that I had no respect for Jackson at all. If he says he didn't see it, that is bullshit. It was right in front of everyone, and they showed a replay clearly showing Hayes punching the player on the sidelines. If we all at home could see it on the replay, then Jackson surely could see it. He just didn't have the guts rock to boat.
Too bad that's not true. Jackson DID NOT see that replay; it wasn't shown in the booth! And from his perspective, there was a fracas on the sideline but how was he supposed to tell that Woody Hayes had thrown a punch? There were a lot of people milling around and Woody Hayes was one of the smaller people in there!
@Scerni01 This was not the stone-age. Throughout games even at that time, there was instant replay and announcers commented on the instant replay. Are you telling me that, in a bowl game, the TV announcers could not even see the instant replay?
I have a tape of the 1976 M-OSU game that Michigan won 22-0 with the radio call from Bob Ufer dubbed over the ABC sports audio. Ufer died when I was 11, and I actually cried. When Bo died in '06, that was the first time my wife saw me cry, but that's beside the point.
hey WH, do you have anything on the god-awful halo that was on the Big House in 98? or anything about the new scoreboards that were put up in 98? thanks GO BLUE
I love the last part where it goes right back into action. Whats intreresting to is why the hell did Justin Fargas tranfer to USC??? Thats USC's Fargas right?
I was also at this game. It was a great tribute and I'm glad you posted it here. I wrote a letter to ABC asking how I could obtain a copy of the game (the days before DVR lol), and of course the letter went unanswered.
There really hasn't been another announcer like Jackson. "The Big House" The Big Uglies" "Whoaaaaaa Nelllie" and one of my personal favorites.... "LeeeeRoy Hoard."
This of course, was Keith Jackson's first retirement, he came back later to do some Pac-Ten games and Bowl games with Dan Fouts. The memorable 2006 Rose Bowl game was his final broadcast along with Oklahoma's win over Oregon in the Holiday Bowl.
Classic !!!

I'm glad Keith Jackson came back and was able to do the 100th OSU/UM game. It was fitting that it was his voice calling that game on TV.

That's a really good question.....I mean why would anyone want to transfer to USC....back in 1998 they sucked eggs too.

Along with "Whoa Nellie" and "He's a hoss!" Keith's phrases were the greatest. He was just as much college football as any team, coach or player.
