Good detail shown, thanks. My trouble is stretching the boot onto the rack (large, inner end). I can only get my finger tips in, very narrow space. Just tried to reach down from the top like you did, too far and steering hose in my way. Looking for tricks to help me use just my fingertips, etc.

If it's tight i suggest you to use grease to help.
if you have not a lot of space you can unbolt the steering rack.
it looks like an extreme solution but sometimes to loosen it for a bit of clearance is enough to do the work.
