The flick, though entertaining and well done, "enhanced" many truths in order to be more...entertaining. (Okay. I liked it anyway.)

Yeah.. 10 hours a day for 4 months.. then Ben Hong actually recorded the soundtrack overdubbing.. but I'd like to see the average person manage to even LOOK like a virtuoso cellist in 4 months. The fingerings are correct.. the bow position is correct.. the overall style and musicianship are quite good.. so, think a little before you diss someone who spent 400 hours of HARD work to be able to make a believable film. I'd love to see how "bad" you'd be at it too..

Don't forget that Jamie Foxx is a musician too. He plays piano so when u have music in u no matter what instrument u originally play u can learn other instruments faster than d average person. IMO.

I give thanks 2 God 4 d gift of music(real music). I play guitar and I'm learning piano. its not ez but achieveable.

Actually stormstryk. Correct me if I'm wrong (because I MIGHT be wrong) but 10 hours a day for 4 month is not 400 hours. Thats only 40 days. If you do the math...

(10 x 30) x 4 = 1200

No, the Bach suites are unaccompanied works for solo cello... I'm not sure what the orchestral piece is, but the rest of the soundtrack from the preview is the Prelude from the Back suite

It's looks and sounds too reminiscent of Resurrecting the Champ, which stars Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Hartnett, which is about a boxer, now homeless, who's found by Hartnett's character, a struggling sports writer trying to find a big story, and he finds it in Jackson's boxer, who once was a champion. Hollywood wouldn't know originality if it hit them in the face. Recycle, imitate, rehash, turn shows and older movies into "new" movies.

I understand your complaint on Hollywood's inability to be original, but granted this is a true story and is based off the book Steve Lopez himself wrote about his encounters with Ayer's, so i would think originality wouldn't be a part of a criticism about a true story

It does seem interesting, for sure. And Jamie Foxx looks like he's acting well here. I might even go see it. But I can't stand when Hollywood uses the phrase "based on a true story...," which gives them the freedom to "Hollywoodize" the movie. I do know that a filmmaker has to take some liberties, whittle things down, sometimes turn three characters into one, etc., but too often what happens is they sugarcoat things, cram it into an old, cliched formula and say VOILA! True Story!

Interestingly, it also reminds me of Samuel L. Jackson's "Caveman Valentine," in which Jackson plays a now homeless man, who was once a classically trained pianist performing in front of rich audiences. So it seems like a blend of Caveman's Valentine and Resurrecting the Champ. If you haven't seen Resurrecting the Champ, it's worth at least a rental. It's worth watching for Jackson's performance alone. Not even Hartnett's wooden acting could hurt that.
