  • Would pay for a tablature download.

  • I absolutely agree with yves159 comments! It was your video that made me decide I had to buy the EWI 4000S for myself, not any advertisement they had anywhere else. You should get paid. Btw, I would gladly for a download of the tablature in the saxophone fingering for this piece. I would bet others would too. You rock,

  • wow

  • TIGHT!

  • Dude, you should make money of this. Contact Akai. Let them know that you know that your video is AWESOME and ask for payment for this advertising that they now get for free. Make clear that you'll take the video down if there's no win/win situation. No doubt they'll pay you something! I'm sure this video will convince people to buy the instrument. Think about it ... Capitalistic, i know

  • fat with a capital fat

  • Hey man, love this stuff sounds wicked. Just a quick question; Can you plug the ewi 4000 straight into a guitar amp or do you need a computer?

Interested in buying one and want to get out and play some stuff but considering if I will be able to with just guitar amp?

Thanks - keep up the good music man!

  • @TheHiatusa you can hook it directly to a pa system a bass amp or a keyboard amp if you plug it into a guitar amp you will blow out the amp because the guitar amp is not made for low notes. You can just plug it in to the amps compatible as I mentioned and it will work because the 4000s has a midi sounds built in you can also hook it up to any synthesizer and use its built in sounds.

  • tht was sooo awesome!!!

  • hello.

those videos is greats. i have one question to ask you: I'll be grateful if you answer to me. yesterday i bought -AKAI PROFESSIONAL EWI USB. I installed this akai software from cd.to my desktop pc then the install program was successfully. But the akai ewi doesn't work.when i blow it doesnt work. i want to know why??? do i need to have any sound cart or somekind or modul that ewi would work??

if i need somekind soundcart or modul, can you tell me what kind of modul or cart i need.

  • I bet every single one of you judged him before he even started playing too

  • you are a very talented man!

  • I wanted it before but now I want it even more! Very nice.

  • 2:10 - 2:16 VERY NICE!!!

  • i could listen to this all day

  • Great video, man!

  • where can I take one?

  • one more question how many phrases can be played at one time with a loop pedal?

  • @hanj31 It greatly depends upon the pedal that you're using.

  • can you make an ewi pitched in Eb or Bb instead of having it pitched in C

  • @hanj31 it can be in Bb Eb F, and a few others that you rarely will use/want, but they are there anyway! :D

  • I was gonna do this with ewi too!

  • yo what is that? it looks like a vacum cleaner

  • Do ewi's pick up vibrato and articulation?

  • ok this is the first time i see an electric flute oO

  • One more observation: Jeff Kashiwa move over, you have good 4000s company to keep. Akai should hire you to demo their product.

  • The looper seems almost indispensable for getting the most from a 4000s as you so beautifully demonstrate with this performance. You definitely have discovered the versatility of this unique instrument and have the talent and skill set to make the most of it. Well done!

  • I WANT ONE.

  • Incredible - I don't know anything about music, but I always thought this kind of electronic music was made purely in front of the computer with hours of work - and you do it right in front of us for everyone to watch in just 5 minutes with such expression that only a real instrument can bring... - first time I ever heard of an EWI.

  • EPIC, our marching band plays this as a stand cheer but that was awsome

  • epic!!! I love this song. Your version = or > original

  • Man that was Great. I play alto and soprano sax, and I had thought about looking at this ewi4000, but after hearing you play it...Iam going to get me one now. Do you know the best place to buy it..

  • Sweet!

  • seriously...this F***ING AWESOME! :) you shoulndn't be in your living room but on a stage! you made it groove so much and your impro is really great.

  • Cool

  • hello I also purchased Akai EWI 4000S

that only contains only his original sounds

and I can not find an expander compatipile to sound like the sax or clarinet

    What do I recommend?

  • Man you are superb..just got my udb ewi..maybe i shaould of got the 4000...man ya got a great sound goin on is that really the sound of the original sax in the 4000 or another patch you bought..peace

  • awesome job!!!! :)

  • I Like it very much !!!! you are the music man!

  • Great skill man, congrats!! =)

  • I just had an eargasm...AWESOME!!!

  • Absolutely marvellous!!

  • Wow. Unbelievably good.

  • woah! great job!!!

  • Cool!!

  • yeah, so cool!

  • I'd buy your records!

  • I just Jazzed in my pants

one of my mates is really eager for an electric clarinet! and now we know they exist!

  • This is an awesome video! NICE WORK!

  • how much did your loop station cost?

  • boss RC-50's cost about $500.

  • When buying the EWI 4000, do the variety of synth sounds need to be purchased separately? Or are they built in/come with buying the EWI 4000?

  • built in but there no good if your planning on buying one google patchman music

  • aloha, i have been playing a traditional german honner recorder for a few years and would like to branch out a bit...this instrument you have seems to be a good option...you sure make it look easy and fun.....wonder if you might have any idea if the fingering on your instrument is similar to that of a recorder fingering????....mahalo

  • The fingering is like that of a saxophone with some small diferencies..

  • DUDE YOU ARE SICK

  • How tha hell are you doing the thing from 4:29 and forward :O? EXTREMELY good btw!

  • That....... Was the best thing I've ever heard, why are you not famous?!

  • Wow! What scales is he using?

  • Some combination of blues, dorian, and bebop with some sideslipping and diminshed here and there, i think.

  • How did you make those arpeggios at 4:29 and forward? Please reply!

  • I'm just playing several octaves of c major triads and then c minor triads really fast, which is nothing but practice :) The rest is just a bit of pitchbend along the way and the vl-70m synth's india flute patch, which changes in tone as you blow harder and alter articulation.

  • @wergythu One more thing, why arent you famous? :S Because you are simply incredible at what you do..

  • it can be transposed to Eb Bb or C,

  • This makes me want an EWI so bad! nice playing man!

  • You have 100 internal sounds, which you can edit via midi or usb, depending on which version you buy ;)

  • can you add new sounds?

  • Well, there are only 100 slots, so you would have to overwrite one of those, but that aint a problem since you can reset them anytime

  • how many sounds the ewi contains without a Synth?

  • HI. Internal sound ? Somebody have a link with all 100 demo sounds ? PLS help me . I want to buy this EWI 4000s but i want to here all demo sounds.Thank-s.

  • excuse me but is it an ewi4000s or an ewi usb?

  • That's a 400S - see the silver part just above his hand that comes 'in' slightly... On the USB one it's a simple angle bend without that 'cutout'.

He also spans more octaves than the USB has. USB only has five, 4000s can span eight.

  • Very cool it seem you make it so easily^^

i so much like this type of music and this instrument.Have you heard to michael brecker on ewi4000s?

    it seems yes.

    thanks to post this vid

  • Funky!

  • sick, nasty, and wayy more

  • Really Nice!!! I play this instrument too, I use the midi cable from computer..just want to get more sounds.. you played really cool!!

  • RESPECT.

  • jaja ke fiera

  • yea flute harmony at 1:50. waaaaayyy toooo bad.

  • I think he means bad as "good", people. Who thumbed him down.

  • yeah, that flute harmony is so cool. Its because it goes up to the dorian 13 with the 11 underneath.

  • wow its almost like an electric clarinet!

  • Awesome, You are one funky dude!

    I love it!

  • That is awesome that your able to loop things live with you wind controller- I am looking into getting one myself. I use the Motif 6 right now with other studio equipment.

    Very cool- like the sound.

    -CM

  • THATS SIIICK

  • my band instructor plays an ewi

  • amazing, so funcky

  • GJ!!! very nice!! keep it up

  • What are you using to loop with? Boss RC-50, Ableton Live?

  • BRAVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

  • Do you have a CD?

  • Woot Woot!

  • Nice work !

  • meat!!!!

    i am stunned dude!

i'm just getting into this with an old oberheim cyclone and an old cz-1 midi'd with my ewi 3020 and 3030mod!

    you kick!!!!

  • Bravo! Five stars.

  • holy sh...

    thats amazing :O wow

  • unreal! well done!

  • That is SICK, man!! Serious skills, thx for the good show, I love that tune.

  • Awesome, I love it

  • Dude that totaly rocks. I have wanted one of those for a long time. Keep up the good work dude.

  • Wow you had some amazing runs in that. Awesome job!

  • Very nice, but some sounds are getting too loud compared to others..

anyway, you must have so much fun with this thing! nice!

  • you are fucking awesome. the awkward little look at the camera at the end tops it off.

  • amazing!

  • i now an ewi got a separate consolo tath works like a synth right?

  • Nicely done! Keep up the good work!

    ~jojam

  • You, Sir, are Funky! If I hadn't seen the video, I would have assumed you were Black, a pimp and possibly sporting the worlds best Afro. Peace.

  • that's really great man ! keep it up

  • Hey do you use a loop station or any other thing?

  • Does it happen to you to read video description before posting a comment ?

  • Nice...did you just use preset tones or did you use the synth for that?

  • ...now when you say the "layout" of they keys are simalar..do you just mean the way they are positioned? because ik the key on that must be different. is it more like an alto or soprano? because an alto is e flat and a soprano is b flat..

but seriously very very nice ( my favorite spot is at 1:57 - 2:50..NICE sax solo

  • WOAHHH, is it similar to the sax in any way?

  • Hmm...the layout of the keys is similar, and you blow into it, but that's about it :)

  • @wergythu doesn't it get all condensation-ey like a normal sax? does that screw with the stuff, and do you get like a water key?

  • You make it look so easy! Wish i had the extra bones to get one of those rc-50s.

  • very good looping wergythu!

  • Do u need a amp to hear it and is it far form a clarnet or autosax to play?

    Thanks

  • Thanks..I played the saxophone for ten years before starting the EWI.

  • It's improve and very good. Let's see a video response if you can top it.

  • Stunning. Great song and great version.

  • Fantastic! I bought an older EWI that just never could get to work right, so I think I might go out and buy the 4000s. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • What's EWI stands for? I wonder can I do that with a double bass? with looper? please help me, I want to know more about loop and effects.

  • Ewi = Electric Wind Instrument

  • Electric Wind Instrument.

  • THis is a great video. What software are you using to do the looping? What are your suggestions to do this live? It is just a cool way to have some fun and explore the possibilities of improvisation. Thanks so much for posting this great video.

  • It's a Boss RC-50 loopstation...this recording was made live (I recorded all of the loops on the fly as I went, one layer at a time, and used the RC-50 for the drumbeat), so you can definitely play it live (I've done it several times).

  • Really great talent. Thanks for sharing it.

  • so does the ewi capable of looping licks without a pedal?

  • Nope...you need a software or hardware looper. The EWI by itself just has a tone generator that can make some basic sounds.

  • that sounds REALLY great. i like it.

  • aw man this is great!!!!!!!!!!!! 5 stars and fav

  • Great job man! I play all of my EWI sounds through a Korg triton and, as well, with the Yamaha VL70m tone generator. I get a lot of flack from (jazz) purists, but the audience always loves the synth! Keep up the great music!

  • MORE!

  • Thank you for your efforts.

  • man i am still saving up for one of these got about $600 right now and seeing if i can get the ewi and a amp you sound aswome

  • fantastic man

  • Wow! You play really amazing. I'm planning to buy one too, play tenor and alto sax now. Too bad you stopped playing sax altogether ;)

  • Awesome! Love that sound and your "arrangement". Very professional sounding work.

  • "it still takes lots of practice to play it musically!"

What kind of hurdles did you face learning to play the EWI? As one who seems extremely talented, I'm curious as to the learning curve you experienced.

  • It was a pretty smooth transition, actually...the things that took the longest were adjusting to the fingering and keys, and learning to use air velocity and pitch bend expressively. In the end you just have to hammer it all into your motor memory, assuming you have the musical sense to know what your goals are.

  • Thanks for that information. I've been thinking about that for some time. I vacillate between wanting to imitate "real" instruments and unusual sounds. I have been experimenting with connecting my Wx5 to an Access Virus analog modeling synth. So far the results have been mixed.

  • Beautiful! How has your VL70m been modified?

  • Thanks! It has the patchman music turbo chip installed...highly recommended.

  • Awesome video! I'm thinking about investing in a n EWI but I'm sort of a n00b. What do you recommend?

  • Hmm...well, it's just like any other instrument. Some of the mechanics are easier than an acoustic instrument (you don't need lots of muscle endurance for embochure, and you don't have to spend lots of time developing your tone, because the sound module does it for you), but it still takes lots of practice to play it musically! I think it's lots of fun, and I switched from sax because I had to (moved to an apartment where sax is too loud).

  • Really cool man, exactly the kind of thing I'm looking to do with my 4000s. Could you shed a little light on how you're connecting all your hardware? I think I just see a MIDI cable coming from the EWI -- but I could be mistaken. Thanks a lot!

  • My EWI is connected to my vl-70m synth with only a midi cable (midi out on the ewi to midi in on the synth). The synth has stereo 1/4" outputs, which I plug into the main instrument input on the rc-50 (which is also stereo), and then the main stereo output on the rc-50 is plugged into whatever my output is (usually my stereo, so I use a 1/4" stereo to RCA/photo stereo converter cable).

  • Wonderful performance! One of my favourite Hancock tunes.

    Please post more :-)

  • i don't understand the point of a wind synth instrument.

  • so the sax players can have fun too?

  • Dude, were you using the RC50?? Let me know!! This was seriously cool! Great riffs!!

  • Thanks! Yup, RC-50 it was. Maybe someday I'll be motivated enough to put together my own drum tracks...:P

  • Man, your on your way as it is! I just got my EWI 3 months ago (I'm a 30 yr sax player) to lay down my horn and go digital is a major move for me! I used to just show up with my ax and my mic set-up, now it's with sound modules and a looper & midi gear. What have I got myself into?? Thanks man! Love your stuff!

  • JEzus, the first lick in the beginning, before u r using the looper...

    BRILJANT!!! Beautifull sound

  • Brilliant!! Great arrangement and sound. thanks

  • He's even more talented in person.

  • excellent

  • I enjoyed your performance, you should get out in the open more, you surely can play and arrange,I am impressed, loved it, thank you.

  • great playing and sounds....I'll have get me one too ;-)

    -Lennart

  • Whoa, that's awesome. Great job!

  • Very good arrangement and very well played. Thanks.

  • cool, thanks, i was researching this to buy, looks like a good instrument!
