Fred Astaire had said after his Motown performance that he was 'hell of a mover' and when he was little told him he would be a special star. My point is that MJ drew off of him, Gene Kelly, James Brown, etc. and created something entirely his own which IMO was even better. Not trying to disparage the classics in any way by saying that -- in fact, I feel he stood on the shoulders of giants to get to the point of greatness that he did.

You should always surround yourself with people who know more about the industry your in than yourself and Michael was lucky enough and obviously talented enough for that to happen. He knew James Brown, Elizabeth Taylor, Katherine Hepburn, Sophia Loren, Liza Minnelli, Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire and Sammy Davis Jr. I don't think a person who is studying entertainment can have better teachers than the ones Michael had.
