  • One of my top 10 favorite Bugs Bunny cartoons. He IS without a doubt the original master of trolling. XD

  • veramente un "Happy end" (^-^)

  • Something puzzles me ever since I first saw this cartoon. Does anyone know what the silhouette of the woman in the snow at 6:05 means?

  • I never realized this cartoon was censored. Oddly enough, the edit makes it seem like Bugs gets killed.

  • @JacobDragyn I felt the same way, this is my first time seeing this version.

  • wow i havent seen the undedited version of this in almost twenty years

  • I have this episode on tape XD

  • i used to have this on tape as a kid. wish i still had it

  • at 1:13 I noticed that when the poster was drawn over it looked like Adolf Hitler

  • is this that one where they appear with diferent personalities according to their hats?

  • @kjsh987 No, you're thinking of the later short Bug's Bonnets.

  • WHAT THE FUCK!

  • I can understand now why it was edited, but cartoons like this are historical, and should be kept intact for the time it was made and all that. I didn't think much of it when I was a kid. But if I owned a copy, I'd rather have the uncensored version like this.

  • Bugs makes a good gun! Love that part

  • "across the snow-packed tundra (presumably in Canada)."

Tundra is treeless or has very few trees-I see plenty of trees. Presumably? The Mounties (of course) operate only in Canada.

  • At 3:47 after he lets go of his straps, if you listen closely, what does Bugs say? It sounds like "penis" or it could be "yeeess"

  • Comment removed

  • the ending is just nonsensical, i don't get why that would be his wish, or why it would work...

  • @MrUpthera2011 He wished he was in Dixie (down south) instead of at his execution. It worked because he is Bugs Bunny!

  • This is an example of a sad attempt of Canada trying to take over the United States. XD

  • 7 people were tricked by Bugs Bunny...

  • I remember seeing the full ending a couple of years back and i said 2 myself "WTF just happened?!". Yet, I didn't think much of racial stereotypes.

  • @Oliver30 Me Too!

  • elmer fudd looks like vinnie paz

  • "Ah, here it is"

    Oh Bugs, you're such a troll :D

  • You can't erase cartoon history by editing it off. Although it's wrong by today's standards, it still entertained a lot of kids in those days, no matter what race they are.

  • man... it's crazy to remember stuff like this and see it again as an adult... Racist stereotypes and the history of US race relations in cartoons.

  • The carrots he eats always look better in the cartoons than they taste in real life. :( I wish I liked carrots for that reason.

  • I love this one! I have got it on VHS that is called Cartoon Favourites: Volume 1, Tape 2 which is in it.

    Thanks for uploading it!

  • I can never stop laughing at the shadow lady part!

  • I remember watching this as a kid on video.

  • I still have this on VHS

  • If they showed this version today, the parents who were watching it with their five year-olds would've changed the channel.

And yes, people watch Looney Tunes at noon.

  • @hasfarr WHY would they have changed the channel?

  • CN just showed it and it cut out after Bugs sang "I wish I were In Dixie" =(

  • No bullets are coming out after i fire! I must look down my gun barrel by pointing it RIGHT AT ME HEAD.

  • bugs bunny rocks

  • I just bought a DVD called CARTOON EXPLOSION from Amazon.com that has this cartoon on it, but on the DVD it ends right at 7:07 and skips to the end card. Shame on the DVD producers =(

  • LOVE that smile Bugs has when he takes off Elmer's boxers!! LOL

  • Why did he whistle one he pulled out that one key? Hmm????

  • people ask me why i love bugs bunny? 6:55-7:31. he's cute and unpredictable although the background already gave us some kind of clue. and i too wish i was in Dixie lols

  • Wow, I'm only 21 and I remember watching this very episode as a kid, and this was from the 1940s?? This lasted a long time on the air. :)

    Bugs Bunny was awesome!

  • @ClassicCartoonsGuy

Hahaha me too! Gotta love the oldies

  • 7:08 JAJAJA

    BUGS BUNNY'S CAMPTOWN RACES

  • racist watch 7:17

  • Don't feel bad, eh.

  • @GreyMatter00Duh fuck you

  • 1:46-2:01 LOL

  • why the hell is elmer cryin over for aint catching bugs bunny?

    is he child or something?

well to be honest, its pretty hysterically funny when he cries, and oh,

in fact, im laughin my ass off @ 06:17-24

  • its fuckin funny when elmer is cryin over some kind of game and

like, HOW THE FUCK OLD ARE U ELMER? SEVEN?

  • After they/ve seen paree...

  • I think you mean Scwewy Wabbit.

  • what the hell? i didn't really understand the ending. oh well bugs bunny is random which makes him one of the most admired cartoon character

  • @raiderify i think they were trying to be funny at the end because when blackface was seen on screen in the 40s people would just laugh, but today this would be consider racism

  • lol thats soo funny haha i love bugs bunny!!!!

  • i think elmer is laughin 06:18 - 06:24 ROFL

  • @PJNATOR70 im sorry i couldnt hear you over our 12 gold medals

  • @PJNATOR70

WTF are you even talking about?

(And if you're going to respond, use proper spelling and grammar.)

  • man,the ending was so fucking racist. Oh well,I've seen MUCH worse blackface things in other cartoons of this time.

  • This is how the cartoon is suposed to be in it's complete not edited..it's been years since I've seen it this way...and I agree no it's not insulting. I wasn't offended by it.

  • lmfao

    that's uh

    pretty offensive.

  • @TheLizzard - when it was on TV the edited version cut off Bugs when he starts singing "Dixie"...its a real abrupt cut, because the Merrie Melodies logo came on as the mounties/minstrel singers just started to sing...bad edit...

I watched this entire cartoon for years until I was around 8 or 9 when someone said it was insulting - I wasn't insulted, my parents weren't insulted, and no one I knew or know was/is insulted - I don't understand what's wrong with the entire cartoon as originally drawn?

  • Does anyone have the censored version? I wanna see how they changed it.

  • i used to have this whole one even the ending on video i think maybe dvd haven't seen it in so long

  • i used to have this one on video i think maybe dvd havent seen it in so long

  • Oh I just love this one! Watched it SO many times when I was young. It's been almost 20 years since my brother and I would watch this a my grandma's house after school. Thanks for sharing this vid!

  • When will Buggs bunny come out on tv again??? Why did they stop it???? Biggs we miss you!!! You're the best!!!

  • @MrFucker47 it is true we do

  • "You can't catch me! Why, you couldn't even catch a cold!"

  • the ending was SO random, and i wondered why when i was little that the cartoon ended so abruptly, now i know why :)

  • i have this! i love it!

  • The cartoon was hilarious. The people back then knew what real cartoons/real humor was, unlike the nonsense kids are forced to watch now. Admittedly, the end did bother me a bit, seeing as I'm black. Just seeing people in a bunch of black face paint jumping around mocking former slaves, even if it wasn't meant in a harmful or malicious way, does bother me. Video as a whole was great though. Funny.

  • @15comebackkid I'm not black but I agree with you about the ending! I don't think those type of portrayals are even funny at all! I tend to focus more on the other parts of the cartoon short that are actually funny.

  • Oh shit, great quality.

  • The Procrastinating Hare Gets His Way Again

  • I love the old cartoons

  • insult to canadians

canada isnt a stupid snowing place

    it boils in the summer

  • @Burromovie I'm canadian and I don't find this insulting at all. XD I love bugs bunny =)

  • I Wonder What Elmer Pushes To Shoot The Gun With His Right Hand At 5:45

  • Lol this is so random like wtf

  • The ending was a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment.

  • Oh so this is where racists congregate lol.

  • @JamSlick i think you missed the point of the cartoon it wasnt racist, it was actually identifying with part of black heritage. it was merely playing off the irony of a black man wishing he was back in the south on the plantation of his youth, bugs is asked if he had one wish and he chooses to "go back to dixie". your a fool if you do not realize their are always extremes and two parts to every story good and bad.

  • @REVOLTbydesign

    yeah, keep believing that...

  • @REVOLTbydesign Actually the end was a parody on a type of show that was popular during that time period: blackface. It's where white people would paint their faces black and pretend they were African-American and do all kinds of racist things because they were "black". It's considered very offensive and is the root of my "black" stereotypes that are prevalent even today. That's why the ending was cut off.

  • 1:12 hitler rabbit

  • I always love the kisses between Bugs and Elmer^^

  • What did bugs Bunny say ? what shap dog?

  • One question... Has the censorship been cancelled, 'cause I saw this one recently on... Boomerang? At least 2 or 3 times.

And what exactly is wrong with the black-faced ending thing? And why did they put it in?

  • @DrsJacksonn Blackface was outlawed during the Civil Rights Movement because it was done by white actors who depicted ridiculous "black" stereotypes that are alive to this day, and it's considered very offensive. I'm not sure why they added the ending all of a sudden.

  • Love the song at the end.

  • I remember adoring this short, it had a lot of my favourite gags- particularly the snow-related ones.

  • Bugs has good reflexes, he totally called that when he punched elmer in the nose

  • i remember i had the merrie melodies on a tape and I used to oftenly watch them. :) good ol' times.

  • hahahaha hell naw. the funniest part is when bugs is actin like elmers gun and then gives him a big ass kiss! lol : D

  • @RoDoGG1000 That's one of the classic gags that has always stayed in my memories. hahahaha! "BANG! BANG! BANG!! Clickclick click!"

  • These cartoons have a lot of sexual innuendo's...good times..poor kids have to watch shit like Ben 10 now and Hannah Montanna

  • how does bugs bunny get charged with battery

  • @mooniasproductions Battery is unwanted contact. Unlike assault the contact doesn't have to be violent.

  • @MWolfL

Well, after that punch in the face, assault can be added to the list. XD

  • @CasualVideoGamer

Maybe, though I think toons have different standards of what is assault and what isn't. After all they can survive explosions or getting run over. Elmer might add assault anyways just because he hates that 'scwewy wabbit'. XD

  • Stupid buggs uses snowshoes for fingers hahahaha :)

  • @MrFucker47 He's not stupid.

  • on my Bugs Bunny tape (that i watched yesterday) the scene cuts right after 7:08 to the next episode

  • I know this is wrong to say over a cartoon...but um...at 5:48 what was Elmer pulling to know he was shooting the gun...look at his right hand...sorry. And Bugs seemed very grateful after. lol

  • @croftman86 Elmer was probably just pulling on Bugs's thumb; don't forget... his arms were at his sides and his hands (paws) would have been in close proximity to Elmer's.

  • whats wrong with cartoons having blackface tom and jerry has a crap load of episodes with that gag who thought of that idea ya know :P

  • @Joemamma69000 yeah, but actually the blackface gags in BOTH cartoons are cut on TV today

  • @yousmartducky - but the cuts appear to be spontaneous, no? Because at one point, I watched a Tom and Jerry cartoon on youtube with a blackface gag, then the next day, the very same one was on TV, unedited.

  • 1:45 wow Elmer sure is fast....

  • Hitler 1:13

  • lol!! that was great. never get tired of that one.

  • that bugs bunny looks so weird XD

  • how come he never got shot? daffy duck always got shot!

  • good question. The story that bugs was based on was that rudolf ising went hunting and he tried to shoot a rabbit, the rabbit would get away or he missed it every time. this became a studio joke that escelated into tex avery creating the prototype daffy cartoon the cartoons were popular so they created bugs a prototype a clone of daffy. years later chuck jones decided to constantly have bugs outwit daffy resulting in him demanding to be shot and thats it.

  • Search family guy bugs bunny

  • Aside from the fact Canada hasn't had the Death Penalty in centuries we never had it infront of a firing squad.

  • yeah, but everything else was factual

  • @KosaiAvonej I think you meant decades, not centuries. Canada abolished the death penalty in 1976.

  • The fat Elmer Fudd, looks a lot more like Elmer Fudd in this cartoon, than the other three.

  • Ooh that scwewy wabbit!!

  • 2:08 Elmer you fool! there is snow everywhere! reckon that should smother the fuse nicely.

  • By the way, does anyone know exactly why the attire for blackface performance was a big, ugly bowtie, white gloves and and long-tail suit? I always wondered about that....

  • that's what black people wore back then

    or i might be mistaken

  • I love bugs bunny!!! :)

I love how he kisses his enemies.

Maybe humans should do that too! lol

  • @annienam89 Bugs Bunny could take a hit to the face with a hammer, but I don't think humans can... :P

  • LMAO. Yes, let's compare suffering, because it's not as if Jews are not in an advantaged position isn't it? It's not as if racism and discrimination doesn't exist today?

No of course not, in your deluded little world, obviously in the 21st century, I must be living the high life.

And it's not as if Jews still go on about the holocaust? No, of course not. Only black people go on about their suffering of the past... because in your world, slavery has had no effect on black people today huh?

  • Nicely said. The jews were slaved for thousands of years. In Egypt and by the Germans. You don't see them going around and blaming everyone for their problems. Black people need to get over it and move on. Also black people today never had to go through that. It's just something they hang on to so that they can act like assholes and call "racism" whenever something bad comes their way. They also don't help themselves look any better with all of the gangs and thug life.

  • @firethower99

You don´t see Jews complaining? LMAO what about Israel. That is one big Jewish complaint- unnerving everyone. And i´m not even hating on Israel. I´m just saying...

  • @SigmaChi04 I would've snapped at u for the first line but i read thru the whole post before saying something. You have a point, but i think u shouldn't underestimate either oppression, neither that of the "african americans" nor of the jewish people. They all paid a heavy price for anything and everything they are now. sadly the jews now run the economies but the "african americans" ... are still persecuted (in the US and Canada) and most stick to the "hood"

  • @SigmaChi04 calm down... it's just a cartoon. just watch and enjoy =D

  • @SigmaChi04

the spoils of 21st century fast food. you´re not stupid jew- you´re a stupid american.

maybe YOU should get off the spoils of 21st century fast fóod, pause, and read the crap you wrote. pecking order? why, that´s the exact same shit hitler and his cronies were pumpig to justify to go after your people. pecking order. right...

  • @EbClectic

I think what Sigma is refering to is that in today's world, all people (black, white, mexican, whatever) have it easier than when slavery was part of society. Today there are a ton of blacks that constantly refer to slavery as though they personally had to go and pick cotton and work in sub-par environments for no money and barely any food/water. The "pecking order" is just them saying that nothing should just be given to anyone, one must work to get what they want.

  • @CasualVideoGamer

just as there are a lot of whites acting as if THEY personally invented things like cars. but i agree that nothing should be given free to anyone- including the work these slaves have done. so- where´s the pay? look, i´m not disagreeing with you, but it´s a complex subject. peace

  • OMG I remember this. I have it on VHS somewhere...

  • this is one of the first looney tunes I can remember watching. It was on vhs. The end scene was never censored on it.

  • LOL

  • back then no one cared about race. thats the censorship part. just let it be its only a cartoon

  • it's one thing to hear bugs singing that confederate "i wish i was in dixie" song...but how am i supposed to explain the "black face" gag to my kids....

  • This show was not made for kids. Kids just started watching it. The older the looney tunes episode, the more likely you will see something racist. All this and Rabbit stew was a really bad one though.

Remember that these were first made in the 40's.

Not to say that racism is okay because it is not. Anyone who trys to encourage racism GFYS.

  • gfys?

  • No one calls Loony Tunes racist for Elmer Fudd, and he's as stereotypical as they come. The only reason people think "All this and Rabbit Stew" is racist is because they show a black guy. Even though they make fun of him they make fun of everyone else to. People just get scared when someone dares make a joke about a black guy. It's the stupidity of racial sensitivity.

  • Did you not notice the fact that they depicted him as unintelligent with a gambling problem. Loony Tunes has some racial jokes. I still watch it though.

  • All this and Rabbit Stew wasn't a bad one!

  • my meemaw and grandad had a videotape of this cartoon and the one where daffy messes with the ww2 bird guy. I never noticed the cotton fields and the black face as a kid, I just liked the end because of the song

  • I know the cenorship on a lot of cartoons were done for a reason but I've seen this cartoon and other like it with out being cut and looked fine to me...what child is going to know the meaning behind it....Hell I never did when I was a child watching bugs bunny.

  • 5:06 onwards FALCON PUNCH!!

  • Everyone seems to be forgetting that these were made for adults, so it was pretty much like the Family Guy or South Park of it's day.

  • ur right man but i watched this when i was little kid

  • no...

  • his fingers had snow shoes . he's full of wonder!!

  • 7:10 till the end is just brilliant :) :)

  • The end of this cartoon where Bugs proclaims his last wish in a chorus of "I Wish I Were in Dixie", which is followed by Bugs, Elmer Fudd and the Mounties all in blackface singing "Camptown Races" has been targeted for censorship because of its stereotypical depictions of African Americans. Here is a list of channels that have cut the ending and how the ending was edited

  • Comment removed

  • In this short, the rotund early-1940s version of Elmer Fudd is portrayed as a Mountie, in pursuit of Bugs Bunny, who is wanted for being a "screwy wabbit", across the snow-packed tundra (presumably in Canada). Elmer elaborates on the charges: "Wesisting awwest, distuwbing the peace, being a pubwic nuisance, jaywawking, conduct unbecoming a wabbit." Bugs soon teaches Elmer that these are far from the only tricks he can pull.

  • Fresh Hare is a Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies cartoon. It was directed by Friz Freleng, written by Michael Maltese, and produced by Leon Schlesinger. It was released to theatres on August 22, 1942.

The title is a typical WB pun (as in "fresh air") that has little or nothing to do with the plot, other than being set in the crisp, frigid air of a Canadian winter.

  • You've gotta hand it to Bugs...he really knows how to get out of a tight spot!

  • I remember this episode! I think this was the first one I ever watched.

  • Resisting an officer, assault and battery, trespassing, disturbing the peace, miscellaneous misdemeanors, public nuisance, traffic violations, going through a boulevard stop, jay walking, triple parking, conduct un-becoming to a rabbit, violating traffic regulations

    WOW, QUITE A CRIMINAL HISTORY!!

no wonder why bugs was wanted.

  • add impersonating an officer to that

  • Bugs ain't too tough to cause assault and battery! Dat charge is a fake!

  • I love this one!

  • You gotta love the whole "kiss as an insult" thing Bugs does to Elmer later in the cartoon

  • Great cartoon, there is a lot more racest stuff out there

  • notice in the beginning, the third poster has him drawn like hitler.

  • lol @ all the comments on here

    lets hookup! SO

  • funny as hell! ROTFLOL!!!!!!!

  • Another thing I wanted to note. The ending seemed like an innocent gag of nostalgia, not actually glorifying the Minstrel Shows. Even black people laughed at these moments back then.

It also goes back to the basis of cartoons. Everything is a stereotype, a charicature. Hell, we're forgetting the most famous black character in these shorts: Daffy Duck.

  • Two jokes I don't understand.

    1. When Bugs is cycling through the keyring, he whistles at the key after the front door key.

    2. When Bugs makes a woman-like hole in the snow, Elmer looks back at it with a high-pitched tone overheard.

Can anyone explain these to me?

  • 1. The whistle is because he found the key to Elmer's girlfriend's house.
