  • Where did you go Jarashut? Your video's were great mate.

  • Even dodgy Dario is infinitely better than the run of the mill, 15 minutes per thrill that we've been forced to endure of late. For me the big five has to include Deep Red, Inferno, Tenebre, Opera and Sleepless. Thanks Maestro!

  • I miss you so much :'(

  • Dude, I would go as far as to say that 'Stendhal Sydrome' is his 'OTHER' masterpiece. 'Suspiria' of course being his first :-) Great top 5 though and I agree with 'Opera', it gets a bad rap but it's one of his most violent and best all round films.

  • 1.deep red

    2.4 flies on grey velvet

    3.sleepless

4.the bird with the crystal plumage

    and then all the others...

  • i love watching your videos, you sound like a real horror movie lover.i myself have been addicted to horror movies since i was little.suspiria is my fave dario movie ecspecially the music.i found the 3 disc version that includes the soundtrack do you have that one? oh by the way your cute.

  • I personally think Opera is his best as well. Suspiria, while great isn't my favorite and its ALWAYS everyones top choice.

    My list:

    Opera

    Deep Red

Inferno (shocking, I know but it sucks me in more so then Suspiria)

    Suspiria

    Phenomena

    Tenebrae

  • LOL the director has my first name XD

  • Your collection makes me insanely jealous. I only own the Blue Underground release of Suspiria. I could easily drop 150 dollars on Argento DVDs.

  • BLACK GLOVES!

  • BLACK GLOVES!

  • i........ LOVE DARIO ARGENTO MOVIES!!!!!!! ^_^

  • Have you seen the demons movies, they were directed by lamberto bava but Dario Argento produced them

  • Nice, your top 5 matches mine too...hehehe. I really must get around to seeing the rest of Argento's work, I'm most familiar with his 70's and early 80's stuff.

  • very wel done...u have the exact top 5 that i have with suspiria being the best....bravo on your choices

  • Well done James, i also like these Argento movies a lot.

Suspiria is his masterpiece, it has something that stays in your mind forever. I never forget the first time i watched it, this tension.

Intresting how different the DVD cover art can be. i think you got some nice ones there.

  • is the deep red that u have the australian version or could i find that in america, i really dont like the cover that blue underground put out

  • Hey mate. It's the Australian version by Umbrella. I like the cover art better too. It's actually a better release than the Blue Underground one, because it not only has the 25 anniversary featurette, but also a hour long doco called Dario Argento: An Eye For Horror, plus a bonus interview with Argento. You'd have to import it to the states to get it however. Cheers.

  • thanks for the info :3

  • my deepest apologies, i stand corrected. thanx for replying.

  • 5 Best Argento Films: Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Four Flies on Grey Velvet, Deep Red, Suspiria, Phenomena. I haven't seen Tenebre and I couldn't stand Opera. Between Goblin and Ennio Morricone, Argento's pictures have had some of the best soundtracks of all time too. Unexpected Violence by Morricone is amazing.

  • what about demons 1 & 2 ?

  • They were only produced by Argento, Lamberto Bava directed them. Cool films though, particularly the first. :D

  • my deepest apologies, i stand corrected. thanx for replying.

  • Stendhal Syndrome is a great one as well. I've seen other people have mentioned it. A little long and the second half gets a bit out there but it's a disturbing film with some cool visuals.

  • Thank you. I was actually quite surprised by the feedback I got for that film - people seemed to like it a lot more than I anticipated. Being one of his more recent works, I though it might have been sh*t on, but hey, seems to be respected :D. I will have to buy it some time.

  • its Asia argento.

    i have two evil eyes.

  • wow you perfectly described susperia the whole setting and the colors omg thats what makes the movie if it wasnt for the setting and the colors the movie would be nothing

  • Thanks very much. I think that aspect of the film is definitely the reason it's so memorable. Hmm, that's an interesting idea that if the movie was tripped of that it would be nothing. I don't think it would be personally. The story and direction were strong enough, and the music is so well done.

  • i know it really is one of the most unique of any horror movie ive ever seen because if you go watch a horror movie now a days if a lady walks into a bathroom there isnt going to be like a neon green light shining through the window, and the whole design of the school is bizzare, every detail of it, even the shape of the glass in the door is bizzare, and the music, goblin itself is a good band they are just so amazing!!

  • The setting and the colors are amazing but to say the movie would have been nothing without them is ridiculous.

  • lol at 3:12

    "Sleepless was a bit tired"

  • LMAO, I didn't even realise that :D!

  • suspiria and deep red are the best from the collection

did u know that dario argento is remaking suspiria no joke

  • Yeah, I've heard about the remake. I think Argento is going to write but not direct. I heard a rumour Christina Ricci was being considered for the main character.

  • Keep um coming. I have Argento's THE CHURCH original LP on ebay uk up for bids at the moment and WORLD OF HORROR, an Argento doc. Ebay seller top.vision.

Argento is my favorite director hands down.

  • Over here in Australia, most of our Argento DVDs come with World of Horror on the disc. Pretty cool stuff. Soavi's The Church was pretty well done. Great music. Thanks for the info. ;)

  • yeah ive got DEEP RED on vhs ....thats a good one man....

  • Cheers mate. Deep Red rules. I haven't seen the video around, whats the cover art like?

  • hey great list, I think my top 5 would be in order: Deep Red, Tenebre, Bird with the Crystal Plummage, Suspiria, Opera. Hes let me down with his recent films, I think Opera was his last really great one. Something like Eyes of Crystal I would've hoped he would of been capable of making. Check out Door into Darkness series if you can find it, it's decent.

  • Cheers buddy. I think your right about Opera, but I did really enjoy Two Evil Eyes, and Trauma wasn't so bad. I remember you telling me about Eyes of Crystal - I asked at some local stores but no release here. Door into Darkness sounds okay, maybe not my thing though. I'm sure I'll eventually buy it when I'm in a completist mood. Thanks for the comment.

  • Cheers man. Still haven't seen that film. It sounds pretty fun though. I read its kind of satirical. lol, The Skyhooks song seemed perfect fro what videos I wanted to make. Plus, I just really like the song :)

  • I'm italian and Dario Argento is my favourite director. I think, just like you do, that suspiria is his best movie, but at the same time I think that Inferno is at the same level! I wish you can see The Stendhal Syndrome, I'm sure you'll like it because is a supernatural giallo rich of memorable scenes and stange psychological aspects... Great video!

  • thank you man :)

Stendhal Syndrome is sounds more and more good. a supernatural giallo? Man, I'm there. That sounds very, very promising!

  • Hey! I've never seen an Argento movie (sad, I know). What movie would you suggest I start out with? I always hear about Suspiria. Should I start there? Being a horror fan I really should check out Argento.

  • Hmmm, thats a hard question. I'd say Suspiria, but to be honest, the film doesn't represent his career the best. Something like Tenebre or Deep Red may give you a better idea of what Argento is about. Thanks for the comment man.

  • Great vid mate.

I'm making my way through his earlier work now, Crystal Plumage shall be next on the list. I enjoyed The Stendhal Syndrome just saw it last week...baring in mind its a thriller so its slightly different to what I am used to...but its massively sadistic (and thats a good thing)

    Really enjoying watching the reviews!

  • Thank you man. The Stendhal Syndrome sounds really good from what people have been telling me. Pretty disturbing too, from what I hear.

  • Great stuff! I REALLY have to start checking out Argento films, but they are always so expensive. Awesome review man!

  • That sucks they are so expensive. They're actually relatively inexpensive here in Australia, and our releases are pretty decent :)

  • Suspiria is a great and an amazing film!

    Great video!

  • I agree, superb movie. Thank you man :D

  • I agree with what you said about "Opera" , and yeah, I very much liked Phenomena.

  • Cheers man. I actually found Opera really hard to talk about for some reason. Phenomena rules, great film.

  • Where is Ash at the begining :o :(

    Greate video :)

  • lol, I had to replace him for this video. Got a picture from one of the Suspiria posters. Thanks :D

  • He did a non-genre film too btw (it's a comedy), I think you did not mention. It's called 'The Fice Days of Milan', he did it after 4 Flies. The only DVDs available of it are here in Germany and in Italy.

I am thinking about buying the new US-DVD of Four Flies, but it's pretty expensive. Will you get it? It's the only Argento film still missing in my collection.

  • Great list man, exactly the same as me! :D Great minds think alike. I've heard of Five Days in Milan, but decided not to mention non-horror efforts. Phantom is certainly the stinker - gah. Yeah, I've bought the Four Flies DVD. I'll have to show it n an upcoming update. Apparently the print is very good, but there are a few cuts (not for violence or anything like that) due to print damage.

  • Very cool, you're doing an Argento special. He's easily one of my favorite directors too. Gialli are my favorite genre in general.

Perfect Top 5 list. Here's mine:

    5. Bird with the Crystal Plumage

    4. Tenebre

    3. Opera

    2. Profondo Rosso

    1. Suspiria

His biggest stinkers IMO is Phantom of the Opera (although there are some nice gore effects in it).

    Great video James!

  • I must pick up a few of these off Deep Discount.

    Great vid mate!

  • Most of these you can get in Australia (save for Opera and a few others). You might want to save your money and buy them here.

  • Thanks man. But, don't you find the prices cheaper on Deep Discount? Shipping is fairly cheap. I ordered 7 movies the other day and shipping was only $12.99.

  • Well, once you factor in the exchange rate, most of the DVDS are about the price you get them at JB or something. If I were you, I'd buy most of the Argento movies you can here if they are a good price. One Item you might like is the Dario Argento Collection - it comes with five films :D

  • Thanks mate. You're a star. I'll check it out this week. Yeah, the exchange rate isn't too bad, but I will check out JB first. The movies that I bought from Deep Discount are all impossible to find in Aus or way too expensive here. Freddy vs Jason was $8 on DD, $30 odd at JB.

I picked up The Evil Dead and Jason goes to hell today. I own the Evil dead, but this is the speciel ed.

  • Nice one buddy.... Great review. As you know I've been watching these film over the last week, so I found you review very interesting and spot on... Great as always...

  • Thank you man. What did you find to be the best of the bunch, seeing they're so fresh in your mind?

  • Tenebre was a perfect film for this genre I think. This was the favourite of the thriller/stalker giallos. great twists and some classic scenes.. Phenomena and Susperia are just fantastic in their own ways.. Again some really classic scenes and great music score.. Opera was enjoyable... Love the needles by the eye.. Trauma was great, but not as good as Tenebre... Card player and Hitchcock are worth watching if you are a fan.. Really enjoyed all of them though...

  • Thanks for posting that man - it was really interesting to hear your thoughts. I agree, the most impressive thing about Tenebre is just how well-done and solid the film is.

  • Phenomena is one of my favorites

  • Great pick. Phenomena only just missed out being on the list. I really like the story in that one, and it has a great cast. Plus, that monkey was cepy as hell lol

  • Hey James, awesome vid. How you goin in terms of gettin on XBOX Live?

  • Hey man. Sorry I've been really busy. I had my anniversary and been busy through Easter. I'll try and geton tonight, but it will probably be late - like 12:00 - 1:00 AM - that cool? We can play some COD4

  • Ok, awesome. If you're on, i'm mitchypoorox. Just watch my South Park dvd's or do Veteran on COD4 util you come on. What time would say to get off my 360 if your not on?

  • Well, I'm on SA time. If I'm not on by 1:30 Eastern Standard time, I'd say it's a good bet I won't be on.

  • Ok then. I'll be on Fable 2 until you come on. If you don't come on, i'll wait until tomorrow if you can come on then.

  • out of the few ive seen, my top two picks are tenebre and suspiria and i love them for completely different reasons. like u said one is giallo and the other witchcraft, also i love the contrast in style, suspira has a very traditional setting and characters while tenebre's characters and settings are very modern, white and refreshing.

  • Great descriptions man, very spot on. That's what I find so great about Suspiria - the contrast in style and story is very different to his other work. Tenebre is just a very well done film.

  • Very cool styff man. I'd say ny top 5 are

    Deep Red

    Suspiria

    Phenomena

    Opera

    Tenebre

  • Good list man, and the only difference from mine is Phenomena, which I nearly included in my list anyway :P

  • Great video.

  • Thanks :D

  • lol, that monkey comment made me laugh. Your right though - as a sequel to Suspiria and Inferno, the film should have been a lot better. It had no climatic feel to it either which was disapointing.

  • I always see Cat O' Nine Tails in JB, and for a really great price. I should pick it up. great vid james. :-)

  • Cheers man. I'd recommend a pick-up if it's cheap, especially if you want to get into Argento. If truth be told, it's not one of my personal favourites, but it's still a good film.

  • Sweet, it's cheap so yeh i'll get it. cheers mate

  • Love yer reviews, but, could you please get rid of that opening skyhooks song, it's so annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gah - can't get rid of the Skyhooks. It's my theme now :P

  • I didn't think Mother Of Tears was better than Suspiria or Inferno. I did like it, I just wish it was unrated.

  • I agree man. It was kind of a disappointment for me. It didn't feel like the swan song to the trilogy I had hoped for.

  • My top ARGENTO's are

    Tenebre

    Suspiria and

    Phenomena

You have some great choices there...Deep Red was great also.

  • Cheers man. Those are three great choice. Phenomena was a personal fav of mine too, and was only narrowly edged out.

  • keep doing these videos!i find your knowledge on the genre quite something for one so young.abit like a young TOPERCAT,god i wish he would come back to youtube.good work fella!

  • great subject mate,my top 5 would be1-PHENOMENA,2-DEEP RED,3-SUSPIRIA,4-SLEEPLESS,5-MOTHER OF TEARS.i really liked OPERA and THE CARD PLAYER alot as well.

  • Good picks man. Phenomena only just missed out being on the list. I think it's one of his most overlooked films. I really enjoyed it, and it had an interesting concept in the film.

  • Id like to see Deep Red...did u buy it of the web??

  • I actually bought that in store. It's the Australian version from Umbrella. Exactly the same as the Blue Underground release, except we get a Dario Argento doco on the disc too.

  • nice....ill have to look for it on amazon...my city has shit for stores..so i either have to buy off the net or pawn shops

  • Awesome vid dude Dario Argento RULES!!!

  • That he does. Hopefully his new film Giallo is really great. I'm sure hoping so.

  • loved the idea for this vid, thanks for the great reviews!

  • No problem man. You got any changes you would have maybe made to the list?

  • well ive only seen suspiria tenebre inferno opera phenomena and 1/2 of deep red. to be honest i didnt like phenomena very much but i love the rest! the eye needles in opera where terrifying! i'll definitely check out the others u mentioned and whatever other ones i can. btw i have a copy of zombi, the european version of dawn of the dead that dario argento re edited. i didnt like it very much though he really watered it down. but i dont think that has anything to do w/ his talent as a director..

  • Nice video James! There are a lot of those films that I need to see. Cheers!

  • Thank you mate. I'd recommend starting with the five I highlighted, I think they're the best of the bunch.

  • Great picks there man! Argento is one director that you can really never go wrong with! Excellent video as always!!!

  • Hey mate. He's usually a sure bet, that's for sure. He has had his fair share of missteps, but what director hasn't.

  • YEEEAHH, DARIO,

Damn man, you guys get much better covers overthere!

And love the Black Gloves reference.

  • Cheers mate. I was trying to think of some title that would fit Argento, and black gloves seemed the obvious choice. Yeah, Umbrella Ent does some really nice covers.

  • Alright matey nice to see u again great vid man!

  • Cheers man, good to be back. This video took me days to do. Was damn hard lol

  • I like that Deep Red cover. I assume that it's Region 4.

  • Yeah, Region 4 cover released by Umbrella. The usually have great images on their DVDs. I prefer all their Argento releases to the US counterparts personally.

  • Once again a really entertaining video :) you , verycruedlyyours and mizpol are the only reason i'm on youtube!! Keep up the good work mate:)

  • Thank you man, that means a lot. Cheers for the kind words buddy.

  • suspiria best of the bunch., great collection keep them coming!!

  • I agree, great film. Thanks for the comment mate.

  • Nice vid, mate! I think it's time for me to start reviewing some of my horror collection after watching your vids...

  • Hey man - cheers for the comment. I'll keep an eye out for those vids.

  • most of argento,s movies are awsome

nice collection watch your favoriete argento movie

  • Thanks mate. My fav would be Suspiria I'd say. Classic film. I like the whole supernatural theme in the film.

  • i liked your top 5...

    5/5

  • Cheers mate :D. You got a fav Argento?
