  • Loved the review but gotta call you mentally disabled for tapind the back of your iPhone. Thats gonna damage it IF ANYTHINY. Its gonna be SUPER gooey when you take it off and theyres ginna be microscpic pieces left over. But I agree with you on the fact that this hero looks nicer.

  • i cant wait to get my hero!!!

  • now u could do micro memeory sd thing app srry its to dark in my room to make sense

  • Hei It was to me really great, i just got mine and learninig and got the background also by your explanation. thanks keep up the good work. Jose from PR

  • kev50027....how do u put the BIG CLOCK display back on the main frame when u turn your phone on? I have it on the screen after the calendar screen & I don't really know how this happen.

  • kev50027 are there any cool abstract backgrounds/wallpaper? im getting this phone the 19 =)

  • Is there a some kind of special pen u can used instead of your finger?

  • There isn't one included, but I've been using a touch screen phone for over a year now and have not once needed a stylus. That said, they are available. Any stylus that works on the iPhone will work on the Hero as well.

  • The reason why I asked is because when I text message or anything with small letters, I kept pressing the wrong key if your in a hurry but other then that I like my HTC HERO. Thanks for your info

    Kev50027!!!!!!

  • No problem, have you tried a different keyboard layout? The keyboard layout where there are two letters to a key works well, and the horizontal layout is easier to type on as well.

  • no I haven't yet but I will give it try. Thanks again Kevin50027

  • @candyrnld in the android market theres an app called thick buttonss try that lol if u say that with a deep accent it sounds so funny XD

  • @candyrnld in settings somewhere their is a free app called voice to text you set your talk speed and talk and it types the words.. you can try it...

  • awesome review! totally changed my mind from getting a blackberry. Only one problem, I get the ugle EU version, but i'm sure it'll still be an awesome phone, thanks!!

  • should i get the hero? help.

  • Great review on this phone I must say. You pretty much answered all the questions I had in mind about this phone. At this time I have a Blackberry Pearl and I was torn between the Blackberry Tour or the HTC Hero but after watching your review I must say the HTC won me over. The only thing that hindered my choice is going from actual keys to a touch screen phone to text, but after seeing the shortcut I think I'll be fine.

  • @pradagirl777 Thanks! If you need a keyboard, the Hero probably won't satisfy you, and the Tour might be a better idea, but the software on the Hero is years ahead of Blackberry software. Honestly, I would go for the Motorola Droid, but if you're not on Verizon you might have to wait a bit until an Android phone is released on Sprint with a real keyboard. I use a Droid now and like it more than the Hero in some ways and less in some ways, but it is a lot faster and the keyboard helps a lot.

  • samsung moment is currently out and it has a slide out keyboard and its android

  • the Samsung Moment is out for sprint and it has a hardware keyboard.... nice vid by the way

  • That's true, I forgot about the Moment, but the Hero is superior as far as software, and the reviews of the Moment I've seen aren't too glowing.

  • 4:19 lmao

  • not sure if i shuld get this or the samsung momoent

  • I prefer the Hero over the Moment, but the Droid is better than both of them.

  • I would go with the Droid, if you can switch to Verizon. The Hero is a great phone, but it's just not quite there yet.. it needs to be faster, and have Android 2.0. 2.0 is coming to the Hero soon, but as of right now, the Droid is the superior phone. As far as comparing it to the iPhone, I think it is better, but considering the iPhone is on AT&T, there's no contest, the Hero is superior. AT&T is awful in every way, and the Hero is a great phone on a good network.

  • you r way too soft spoken

  • Sorry, with the microphone pointed away from me, it is softer than I would have liked. I would have liked to use my lapel mic but it was at home, I made the video in College.

  • If you add a "person" to your home screen, is that like a speed dial? That would be another reason why the Hero is better than the iPhone.

  • Yeah, people added to your homescreen can either be a speed dial, or a quick link to their contact information.

  • how is sprint mobile tv & nfl live on the hero? i was told there was issues..& is the web browser Still Slow?

  • They're both pretty good. Sprint Mobile TV takes a while to start up, but it works as it should. There aren't really any issues, and the web browser certainly isn't slow. It may not be as fast as the iPhone, but it's still plenty fast.

  • web speed depend on your connection their are issues but i have not herad anything about them lately and they still work they just have a few bugs that sprint or htc should take care of that soon

  • I know the answer but I´m just dreaming to see it happen:

    -WOULD a Sprint Hero200 work under European HDSPA/UMTS NETWORKS¿¿¿???

I dont like the boxy EU HERO100...!!!

  • Haha! Never thought anyone would even want this in Europe. I am unsure of whether it would work on European frequencies. I use the Droid now, and prefer it to the Hero, though the Hero was pretty awesome, its screen was small and it was a little slower than I would have liked.

  • The problems of the Hero´s both in EU and US are:

-HTC Sense non-native Interface (erase preferences on the apk and turn home, choose android´s native)

-Flash Player on the browser (turn it off to improve speed)

-All HTC crappy background processes ( USE task manager to kill THEM)

In Europe we use SIM-cards, and as far as I´m concerned this Sprint Hero does NOT have a proper SIM allocation, so it MUST be imposible to use in here

    LOL

  • In the US, SIM cards are used for gsm carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile, while SIM cards are not used for UMTS carriers like Sprint and Verizon.

As far as it being slow, the Motorola Droid is noticeably quicker, from having a faster processor and dedicated graphics chip.

  • does the hero has more internal memory than g1.

  • Yes, it has

    ROM: 512 MB

    RAM: 288 MB

    vs the G1's

    ROM: 256 MB

    RAM: 192 MB

  • what is rom

  • ROM is read only memory. RAM is random access memory. ROM is used to store programs, RAM is used to store bits a pieces of data that are being worked on at that moment.

  • I recorded it in 720p 30 fps, and I used the built in mic.

  • Thanks for watching, I wouldn't do it if people weren't interested.

2.) No, but I don't miss it after having the iPhone 3G for 6 months.

3.) Battery life is good, not great. It lasts about a day and a half with relatively heavy use. I surf the web and run lots of programs, and I have yet to run it completely down, charging every night and every once in a while during the day.

4.) I used the Kodak Zi8, which I love, and works great, by far the best inexpensive HD camera at this time.

  • i just got it 2 day

  • I work for sprint and I have the Blackberry Tour I have ordered this phone today and I must say I will miss my bbm

  • You sure? The Hero can do so much more than a Blackberry, and the Blackberry software is so woefully out of date that they are starting to look more and more like Palm did a few years back. I have no doubt that RIM will fall if they don't get on board, and Android will certainly pass them up.

  • Yea are right about that the blackberry has got boring to me i must say and the Android software just looks so much fun cant want until it comes in the mail only thing I am worried about is the Keyboard and how well will it work

  • you said it comes with a 2gb sd card, the phone i have now also came with a 2gb sd card but it was able to hold a 16gb card(no higher).how big of an sd card can i put into the hero? i hope i can use the 16gb card that i bought.

  • It can accept up to a 32 GB card.

  • alot of "home" reviews are poor quality. Shaky camera, out of focus and the person reviewing is unorganized and hard to understand. But not this one....this is a great review with a fantastic camera. Very clear shots of the phone in use. Well done! I enjoyed it!

  • any apps on android or system settings that allow one to change system fonts?

    thanks for rev.

  • With a program called Open Home apparently you can, but I have not tried it myself.

  • I am currently using iPhone 3g....but planning to switch to HTC Hero....I absolutely love sense....but the only thing holding me back is the audio clarity...

could you please let me know how the audio clarity for mp3 songs and on pandora app....I would appreciate it very much....

I am a music buff....I have some good earphones.....the audio clarity s very important to me

please compare it to iphone...if possible

    thanx in advance

  • Keep in mind that this is not a music phone, it's a smartphone. That said, music does sound great on it. I am also an audiophile, and while the audio quality isn't quite up there with Sony's mp3 players (which sound FAR better than the iPhone or iPods), it still sounds great. The only thing I noticed were mid level frequencies sound slightly more compressed than on a Sony mp3 player.

All in all, it's a great phone for music, but the king of music players is still Sony in my mind.

  • very true sony sounds way better than iphone....i currently own NWZ-a728 and before that I had NWZ-a818.....I am a big fan of sony....

the only problem is i dont like carrying multiple devices.....even though iphone dosent sound as good as sony, it still satisfies me...

actually i was waiting for HD2 or X3(best looking device till date...to me)...but HD2 is gonna be released in Q1 2010 and there is no hope of X3 comin to US.

if you leave the audio out....would u recommend it over iphone...

  • I have the NWZ-a728 as well, and love it, that's what I was comparing the Hero sound quality too, using a reference set of Sony MDR-V600's.

Honestly, I don't have to leave out audio to recommend it over the iPhone in every regard. The only time I would recommend the iPhone is if someone really doesn't understand technology at all. The Hero is an amazing device. The downside I've seen so far is battery life isn't that great, you can make it through maybe a day and a half with heavy use.

  • mmmm....i agree with u....iphone's interface and lack of multi tasking make it feel like its primitive....when compared to Hero or HD2 or even the Pre

am not that worried abt the battery life....all i need is for it to run for whole day...remember that the battery life will improve a bit after few charge cycles...

  • i am gonna get it last week of this month...

thanx for all ur replies...i really appreciate it...

  • Thank you for your questions, keep them coming! I might make a few more videos if you want to know more about the device, I've found so much more you can do on it since I made the videos.

  • sure :)

I would like to see how youtube videos play on the hero....i watch hell lot of them on my iphone and i love the frame rate....may be you can compare both the devices...

may be u can make a video....but please take ur time..

  • hello, very nice review....one of the best I saw on you tube

  • Thanks!

  • How much internal memory does this phone have?

  • It has the following internal memory:

    ROM: 512 MB

    RAM: 288 MB

but Sprint sells the Hero with a 2GB micro SD card installed already.

  • Hi there thanks for the review. What do you think i shoud get? The Hero or iPhone 3Gs. i live en Denmark so we have 3G all over the country, not like the us where GSM sucks.

  • depends on what you are looking for in a phone. I went to the sprint store yesterday (i'm in california) and the hero was tiny !! i was so upset. i loved the vids i saw on youtube..but once you get there and grab the phone ..its tiny. the screen was too small for me. i would go with iphone 3gs..or wait for for something next year..from htc ..or a different android phone

  • Thanks for your reply!

Here in denmark we only have GSM so i know that model well.

But its really hard for me to chose!

I'll think that im going for the iPhone this time.

  • Like backdoorman states, it really depends on what you want. If you want something that is easy to use, and are willing to sacrifice camera quality and a few other things, then the iPhone is great. Otherwise, I would recommend the Hero. The European Hero is different though, it has a smaller battery and runs on GSM, and looks completely different, so I would check out reviews of that model specifically.

I would go with the Android after owning both phones, just because Android is open to dev

  • Thanks for reply!

1 of my friends has the hero, and i know the iPhone good. The problem for me with the hero that on the qwerty keybord there isint danish letters "æøå" But on the iPhone there is. But they both have danish menus and that.

The price is the same, but what to you think after saying all this?

  • That's interesting that the price is the same, the Hero is less expensive in the US.

Frankly, if you're not a geek or a nerd like I am (lol!), the iPhone is probably the phone you want, but if you love to tinker with your phone constantly, and do things that Apple won't let you do, the Hero beats the iPhone hands down.

Owning both devices, I must say that I prefer the Hero, even not considering AT&T's awful service. It's far more customizable and fun to use than the 3GS, and will get better.

  • The iPhone 3Gs 16GB is

    Prize: 120USD

    Contract for 6 mounths: 120USD a mounth.

After six mounths and end of contract: 840USD.

The hero is more expencive but with a cheaper contract, but they both run up in 830-840USD after 6 mounths.

Thats means that you will get more with the iPhones contract, like unlimed data, sms, mms, talk and that. So i think that the iPhone is more worth the money.

And yes i like to use apps and set my own homescreens, but i do not like Rooting the phone, and jailbreak

  • And actually android phones can store apps on the sd card.

Ever heard of apps2sd. You should research that.

  • I was aware of this program, however storing programs on an SD card is not native to the OS, so I thought I would mention that, since other mobile OSs can, like Symbian and Windows Mobile.

I also believe they plan on introducing this feature in the future.

  • wow...still waiting for vid 1?

  • Yeah, sorry about that, I've been busy lately, but it should be up today some time.

  • recommend it over the iphone 3gs?

  • Yes, I would recommend it over the 3GS. I have a 3G, and became frustrated with AT&T dropping my calls constantly. I have found service with Sprint to be far better, and I enjoy using the Hero much more than the 3GS. The 3GS may be easier to use, but it can't do nearly as much, and the camera on the hero in addition to the actual buttons and more open OS push it over the top. Not to mention that the screen looks far more crisp and clear than the iPhone.

  • Nice video, how does your battery hold up during the day? Also you can watch my first impressions video on my channel

  • Honestly, I haven't taken it through a full day without charging yet, but it seems to drain far faster with background data support turned on from what I've seen so far.

  • thanks for sharing !!!

  • You're welcome, the first part is coming up soon, and it will be in HD once Youtube processes it.
