there are 2 good teams in South America about 9 in Europe. It is just mathematically true that there will always be more european teams in the final four. Historically though, Brazil has the Best Record in the world cup tournament. Especially in the last 20 years. So, if we use the world cup as a basis, then Brasil is the best soccer country. My point is that the whole is usually better than the sum of the parts, meaning that the team chemistry is more important than the talent on the team.

What we have been seeing in the Toyota cup is that perhaps talent and big dollars are unimportant. perhaps the S.A leagues are better because the teams dont have big names so they compensate with tactic. Big names are brought to Spain and England to sell tickets and make money on Merch. not to win games.

Losing with greece in the final in 2004 was just too embarrasing. The lack of attitude and nerves from our players is what keeps portugal away from major international trophies. That is the kind of mentality that made portugal spend 18 years (1966-1984) without qualifying to a major competition. But the Selecção has improved a lot in recent years. Maybe someday the day will come, i hope.
