  • Thank you so much I played the clarinet in my school band and I switched to the bassoon recently and it's already the second semester THANK YOU

  • if i have played flute clarinet bass clarinet, tuba, french horn, trombone, trumpet and piccolo what would bge easy for me when it comes to the bassoon?

  • ._. I'm supposed to switch from the Baritone to the Bassoon, and I don't know like......wha? ;o;

  • @JoeCastle911 LUCKY!!!!!!! I have been DREAMING of that since the 8th grade, I'm now a Sophmore(10th), u DON'T KNOW how LUCKY you are to get this chance!!

  • @Oboe2167 I KNOWWWOWOWOWWWW! The only thing that is keeping me from this isnturment is a REED! >w<

  • okay i really need help! i was put to play the bassoon in the school band but im dont really know much about it. so when i was "taught" to put the bassoon together and apart i didnt know how and i dont ewven know how to take the long joint away from the tener joint im sssooooooo confused

  • On the third tone hole, i do not have that key already on it but they gave me the extension key with the instrument. how do you put it on?

  • A bassoon is a concert C pitch instrument

  • Like most of the fingerings are the same thought like C D E B natural A and G I play clarinet

  • Is the bassoon Bb like clarinet? Im going to be playing this and band and we do the first 5 notes of Bb scale for a warmup

  • The bassoon is quite different. It uses a double reed and has a different fingering systerm.

  • how do you fix it when your boot cap falls off how do fix it???:)

  • You might try a little bit of masking tape on the inside of the boot cap to keep it smug.

  • A trombone is a C instrument.....

  • You'r excellent, pardon my ignorance: A trombone is in Bb, an Alto sax in Eb, What is

the Bassoon in? A clarinet has a straight bore, the higher register is different, an 8ve and 5.; a flute has a straight bore but overblows in the 8v.; an oboe has a conical bore and overblows into the octave. Now how does the bassoon work, it looks pritty much like a strait bore???the Oboe has 2 octave keys, the bassoon??

  • @valvetrom A trombone in TREBLE clef is a Bb instrument. But a BASS clef it's a concert C instrument.

  • @RedYoshi3697 Brassband Trombones read like a trumpet in trebleclef transposed from Bb

. Concert trombones are still in Bb but read Bassclef(bottom line out of the hymnbook.) my valve trombone is in C , I mostly read in trebble clef, concert. So I take it a bassoon is in C , does it overblow int the octave(conical bore) ? like an Oboe

  • I play french horn and am thinking of also trying out the bassoon. Do you think it would be a good idea?

  • Terry I am having my first hour with my bassoon here and in 3 days i have to perform the marriage of figaro (playing 2nd bassoon). Never mind the runs, I find my pitches are always fluctuating very much. are there any ways to solve this?

  • I hope your performance went well. It is difficult to know what the pitch problem is from the email message. One likely source may be that the length of the reed blade is different that what you have used before. Terry

  • I have played Tenor, Baritone, and Alto Sax for 3 years and i think i should change into bassoon. do you think it's a good idea to switch from single reed to double reed?

  • Give it a try!

  • would you kindly help me out Dr. Ewel? on my bassoon i can get down to a low D but when i try to go down to low C it goes up to the higher octive. i try dropping my jaw and blowing warm air but it doesnt work please help!

  • Your instrument could be leaking. This might cause the bassoon to go up an octave. I suggest you have your teacher or an experienced bassoonist test your instrument.

  • the first 3 notes are the same on the clarinet

  • oop too late i already poked my eye the first day i got my bassoon xD painful? yes :P but i still PWN at bassoon >:D

  • Thanks for the lesson, Terry!

  • Hello, i just put up a video response on my third day, i have now been playing a month, i made all region, 1st chair-1st band! please tell me how i was doing on my third day, i will put up more videos on video responses for you to tell me how im doing! thanks again!

  • the low notes are easy for me, on the first day i started playing i could play the low Bb, ive only been playing like 3 days now, lol, but i can play some simple tunes, jingle bells, shoo fly, jolly old st. nicholas, snake charmer, etc.

  • Your a very good teacher. This is my first year playing bassoon and i really enjoy it. But i still don't get why you need the whisper key..it sounds just the same without it...(:

  • @Karlita383

The whisper key helps to play low notes, I find... without it, I'm always popping up an octave or squawking... granted, if I want to go up an octave, then I don't use the whisper key lol

  • @Karlita383 some bassoons don't have whisper keys... but it does sound different it makes a difference when you're playing the really high notes

  • @Karlita383 it stops you from playing higher octaves, and makes it in tune and sound better

  • hello if you still look at this please answer me. But

i'll ask my questoin, How do you get very high notes to come out. I can't seem to get it and when I play low notes it comes out high PLEASE HELP I can play fairly good I can play some grade 4 music but I still had to teach myself and I still have trouble again. Also I have been playin for about 4 weeks so yeah and I am in 7th grade.

  • You could be having a number of problems with higher notes. It could be a problem with the reed, with fingerings, with your embouchure, or with your air support of the notes. A bassoon teacher should be able to diagnose the problem for you.

  • The lower notes (below open F, F3) will articulate better with the whisper key closed. You might have trouble even playing some of the lowest notes with this added leak of air through the bocal.

  • why do you have to put down the whipser key .

I've been playing the bassoon for a few years but never had real individual instruction so i've learned it on my own and am now auditioning for music school. I'm learning that i dont really know much .

  • You might try asking around, but it is rather rare for a music store to rent a bassoon.

  • Does anyone know if normal music stores carry bassoons? I want to learn (i already play clarinet and saxophone) but i dont want to buy a bassoon.

  • I have that exact model bassoon!

I will be receiving a new Fox maple bassoon next year.

  • Thank you for your kind comments.

  • Thankyou These Video's are Wonderful. I am a Music Ed Student taking Woodwind Pedagogy and just started Bassoon, and unfortunately the materials are not great so this info is wonderfull thanks.

  • Bocal is such a strange word haha bocal bocal bocal bocal

  • im in 6th grade and my mom got a oboe read !!!!! oon and dont poke ur eye out lol XD

  • noticed we havent put on the bocal yet, cause you probly dont want to poke out your eye.XD
