Wetting the gauze before you pull it out is actually undoing it's purpose. Gauze is normally put in wet, allowed to dry and pulled out dry. This way all the dead skin and gunk left in the wound comes out with it. This is why its called WET TO DRY dressing.
I kind of wish we could have seen him get it all the way out. It makes me feel a little bad that he couldn't be free of the pain on film. Makes me wonder how long it took and if he was ok afterward.
