Hmm. I've always wondered about Ran myself, so I just looked up on some Japanese discussion boards and it looks like Japanese fans aren't really sure about her either. Lum is obviously an "Oni" and Oyuki is obviously a "Yuki Onna", etc. but nobody knows for sure what Ran is since it's never mentioned in the series. Some theories are that she might be a "succubus" or maybe some kind of Western "demon" (since she's into black magic and such).

what is ran supposed to be,all aleins in urusei yatsura are apparently from japanese mythology (oni's,shinto gods,kurama spirits,etc.) so whats ran

I guess Ran's (real name is LAN) closer to a vampire than an oni except that she doesn't suck blood, but youth.

As long as she has such power, she could stay young permanently. No cosmetic surgery or face lift needed, man!
