Awesome playing and an awesome lesson. I will show this to my friend who also plays the electric guitar (here on YouTube actually). But maybe he already knows all of this. He's quite good.
@FlyingBadman There are all sorts of models called Stratocaster. It's possible you're confusing/mixing the Japanese made Strats with the Chinese/Indonesian Squires. But basically there are Chinese/Indonesian Squires (not actually called Stratocasters btw), there's Mexican, Japanese & USA models (both SSS & HSS). The Japanese versions have some rarity to them and can be pricey, just like the USA ones. There are also all sorts of trim levels, particularly within the USA made models...
@FlyingBadman Mexican, Every once in a while you can find a good mex guitar that sounds good, feels right, and stays intune plus you can always slowly upgrade it with new parts. On the other hand I have never found a Japanese guitar or a Squier.
I am considering following this guy around and bother him until he agrees to teach me all his ancient secrets, like in an old Chinese Kung Fu movie. After my nemesis inevitably murders him, I'll challenge this nemesis (I'm taking applications) to an epic guitar battle to avenge the death of my master.
this is a cool lesson...I've not seen this technique before...I always thought it was some sort of effect that got this kind of sound...very cool...thanks for this...
@fazialpalmierung Lol well I'd rather go through the pain of playing and end up playing well then sitting there while everyone is successful doing something that I refuse to do. I can't stop playing my guitar, just pick it up and noodle around. Have some fun and you'll be pulled right in.
@Thouchins It's all up to you. No one can tell you which strings are gonna feel most comfortable. With some exercise even 13's will be nice, but then again some people don't even go above 10's, cause they prefer when strings feel like rubber. The only thing you should be concerned about is the tone of certain gauge. The rest comes with practice.
@Thouchins People use all kinds. I would start somewhere in the middle and then see how that suits you. .10's are pretty average and then .09's and .11's are somewhat less common. I use .10, .13, and .17 for E B and G strings and they feel good for me. David Gilmour uses .10, .12, and .16 and Joe Bonamassa uses the top 6 strings from an .11 gauge 7 string set. I'd start with .10's and see how they feel.
@smp156 what you do is... play guitar! its strange that you are out of inspiration. I think that you need to listen more music, discover more artists, look more live videos of your favorite music and remember the reason that make you pick your guitar for first time: music. Maybe you need to be more creative. Learn songs, play solos, improvise, make your own songs, sing. Man, you have an entire inspirational world for you, just look for the key, its in fron of you.
Sweet!
thanks!
