i just thought I should also mention we are not asked for our race in the census nor do we have to answer any question contained therein. We are asked for our name, age and ethnic background so I would put down Anglo-Celtic but my best friend would put down South Asian and Hispanic on the census on the website its only in that format for university research (and take it from me the amount of studies they do on ethnic background and so forth is ridiculous)

Look. I went to Vietnam and saw this racism. There were two US armies there, a black one and a white one. The black guys looked about 6 foot 6 and the white ones 5 foot 6. Naturally, the kiwis got on better with the black guys, as they were like us. You know, the white guys couldn't even read a map. They did not even know how many mils there were in a circle! Converting from Magnetic to Grid, an American officer was subtracting!! This means the first round could be up to 400 metres off.

Anyone who says a particular country is racist is just a racist themselves. Do you really think that the WHOLE of Australia is racist? No. EVERY single nation has experienced racism and many still do. But these in most cases are VERY SMALL minorities provoking.

And remember, Australia is a very YOUNG country. Only 200 years ago the British almost destroyed Aboriginal culture, and only in the last 40 years has started to fix it. It takes time for wounds to heal.

mostly you'll find that there are 3 types of aboriginals, 1. Aboriginals that have almost no contact with western civilization 2. Aboriginals that are entirely western and 3. Aboriginals who's culture has been destroyed by white people, but aren't part of western civilization either.

Very incorrect. I heard an actual testimony from a Tuskeegee airman who was captured by the Germans in WW2, where he stated that he was treated as any other commissioned officer that became a POW.

Believe it or not, but the Nazis actually did a better job of adhering to the Geneva convention when it came to POW's than the Soviets or Japanese.

Have you not read about the treatment of Soviet POWs by Germans during WWII? Off the top of my head, up to half of the 5 million or so soldiers captured by Nazi troops died either by starvation or disease due to poor conditions, or execution.

There are also plenty of studies detailing the German maltreatment of black POWs, if you cared to take a look. The only POWs that were treated in a humane way were the Western European and American troops, as all others were simply considered sub-human.

Why did/do you think Australians are racist?

We grow up with USA television and see that blacks are hard done by and want to make it right too, but we never had slavery and the blacks that come here make a good account of themselves and they don't have any kind of grudge.

I used to believe that most white Australians were racist for the following reasons.

The "whites only" immigration policy that was still in effect as recently as 1965. The near genocide of the Aboriginal people and the awful discrimination they still have to endure. The fact that even Greeks and Italians are refered to as "wogs"; A term I thought was resereved for black people here in the U.K.

However, I freely admit that I too was practicing a form of "racism" against white Australians.

The white Australian policy is a coined term. There was never a 'white policy' but there was a discriminatory policy whereby people were expected to speak English.

There was actually no 'genocide' again, another coined name to describing how Aboriginal kids were taken by force and given to white families so they can assimilate to 'our' culture.

We are harsher on ourselves and more open to criticism.

Right... Australia is no more multicultural than Germany or Spain, and then only in Melbourne and Sydney; I lived in Melbourne for a couple of years and have never lived in a more white dominated society, including in the UK.

@MattyJames25 hang on the US had slavery, it was legal to kill people (Mormons, Natives and black slaves) the republic was declared before we were even colonised, Native men could vote in my state in 1854 along with all other men in the US blacks were denied the right to vote as late as 1997. In Australia there are cases of European men being convicted and hanged for killing a native.

Inaccurate: constitutionally blacks and all men in the United States were allowed to vote after the Civil War (which so you are aware involved thousands of "white people" dying to rid the country of slavery, a European hangover we inherited & still our most brutal war) through the 15th amendment in 1870.

Some southern states had Jim Crow laws, but only until 1965; felons, black or white, have trouble voting.
