yay got handed this piece yesterday and was asked to play it in our concert on saturday. luckily the part isnt that hard(im playing the mallet part) sounds like a fun song
you gotta love the time signature change ever measure. ahahaha its in 1/4 at one point. kinda awesome :) my band is taking this song to our district festival
The rhythm constantly changes, rarely do you play the same thing for more than 3 measures... I've played it and I'm an alto, even our sliding 16th notes that go for 30 measures changes key every 2 measures...
I don't agree that the percussion is off at all. We're playing this one currently so it's pretty darn accurate and the quality of the recording is surprisingly good for coming off a video camera so kudos to you all for the clarity and sound. I think it sounds fantastic
percussion are WAYYYYYY off, and too loud at some points (though it may be becuase of abad quatity recording)!
horns are way off also (as a fellow horn player who has played this piece before, i undestand the delima with horns and Holsinger's music, but still, no excuse!)

no no...believe me, i know this piece inside and out, and percussion are WAAAAAAAAY off.
definitely NOT the way Holsinger wrote it. u have to approach this piece with certain level of precision and accuracy, ESPECIALLY with the percussion, otherwise, the entire character of this piece gets thrown off, and we don't get the "exuberance and ebullient nature" that Holsinger was trying to portray.
believe me, i'm not trying to b rude or sound pretentious, i'm just tellin it like it is...
the fact that they all ended at the same time is an accomplishment in itself if they were really way off as you say. but this sounds like the way it is supposed to sound, maybe you are just selectively hearing things. this is a pretty good play of it.
sorry it wont be for a while that u'll see our version of nilesdance because my dad just went to the hospital. ill make my video a video response to your version
sorry but i videotaped in on an old video camrea and its not possible to upload to the computer. you guys did better than us though. watch my other video pirates of the carribean bcc high school song.
I just recieved this piece today in band. I got the 1st trumpet part. My 3rd year playing trumpet. This along with Louvre are going to be really hard for me. Still this song is great, just really hard (for me)
My HS Symphonic Band owned this piece's Soul at contest. the third year in a row We've received Straight A's and Straight One's in Grade Six competition.(MT. Tabor High School, Winston-Salem, NC)
We are playing this in our symphonic band right now...it is my first year playing anything like this and it gives me a head ache thinking about the measures...im super bad at counting and figuring out rythms so it doesn't help any
who was on trumpet last yr...i dont remember...okaylets see...eric, eddy, berna, torey, matt, kaleb, broc, who else...yeah i gues we did have a young trumpet line..well not really actually...cuz we didnt have ne freshamn and broc was the only new one...hmm idk
shit i remembered playing this on trumpet one year and the time signatures were fucked up, it went like 5/4, then 3/4 and 2/4 or sum shit, but an awesome piece to play, thanks for postin!!!!
Well played but watch the trumpets. our HS band just played this and we did have a more experienced trumpet section. no doubt yours is a young section and will destroy all the music next year. Keep it up! Good job.

I'm going to agree there are parts of this that are off. I don't think its the percussion though I think its the winds dragging a bit at times.
