  • My friend has this game, he bought this and i bought tales of vesparia around about the same time, he swears by it but looking at it, it doesnt look as good to me.

  • The only problem with the game is that's its to short....I expected 40-50 hours, I only put in around 20-30 hours and I was lvl 70+...its a good game but it just like ends out of know were!

  • @fantasysoul5 you mean "nowhere" right?

  • finally got this working off my internal hardrive yeah yeah im cheap pirater now all i need is hit from my bong hit then off too adventure land

  • u know what I LOVE about JRPGs? They take us to different worlds. Each JRPG game takes us to its beautiful unique world.

  • I really like this game...it was way to short tho....beat it in like 2 days or so

  • This game is only $20 on xbox live's games on demand service. Not a bad price if you don't feel like seeking out a physical copy.

  • i liked this game 'coz of the masterpieces of Chopin. a great pianist... :)

  • This was a good review. I found it for $20 at GameStop, I hope it's still there so I can get it!

  • i beat this game in 15 hrs and it was hard but the only reason why i rushed through the game is that my bet me that i cant beat his time which is 18 hrs so ya it was hard and he doesnt care anymore but it was fun wish it could have been longer

  • Just borrowed this game from a friend. I'm just about to put it in and start it. I figured I'd watch a couple reviews first.

This review actually made me pretty excited to play it. The fixed camera would remind me of the old days when I first played FF VII or FF IX.

  • I love this game I am past the halfway point and I bought it last Thursday. One complaint though I HATE BEATS VOICE X_X

  • @Warlockfoxfire i hate voice to but the reason is that the voice is to old for beat

  • just ordered on gamefly looking forward to burning some time this winter break. nothing like playing a a good ol rpg on a cold winters night in your cozy room.

  • wicked game, imo all the drawbacks are irrelevant as it doesnt really need it. if u just play it as it is and dont ask for me and look out for flaws, you will constantly be referring to other games and you will miss out the awesomeness within.

  • I recommend you to buy this game. It is the ultimate JRPG for PS3. It's not event expensive.

  • the game has beautiful visuals and the light/dark attacks give in a slight strategic feel during battle but it boils down to a simplistic button smasher that gets tedious after a while, and it's very linear straightforward paths with no actually exploration, as for the story it's not really all that good in terms but when reveal of what there world originates from that's quite impressive

all and all it's just a basic jrpg in tribute to chopin while whoring off his music for a quick buck =/

  • Absolutely wonderful game. In my top 20 games of all time.

  • There should be a sequel, but one of those sequel's and a new universe so they can fix they edges that messed up the game...and the plot.

Chopin was apparently handsome, so if that happen we're gonna need a attractive composer or pianist.=3

  • This is not an RPG, this is an adventure game where you happen to have attacks and weapons to choose from. If this is an RPG, then Halo is and RPG.

The combat system is one of the most fun systems that I have played with, but the nature of the game and how it is presented is disappointing.

  • @Lerichem: It's an RPG. And a damn good one at that.

  • @Eternalsummersong How is it an RPG? What elements do you choose? What role must you fill? I played though the game and could not answer these questions logically, so how can it be an RPG?

  • Comment removed

  • @Eternalsummersong So how does this make Eternal Sonata an RPG? I am waiting for some constructive criticism on why Eternal Sonata is an RPG, not what it did in Japan or what else the company has done.

  • @Lerichem: I JUST TOLD YOU IDIOT!!

  • @Lerichem:Eternal Sonata follows many general conventions in a typical console role-playing game: the player controls a party of up to twelve characters to explore the world, talking with its inhabitants, buying and selling equipment at shops, and encountering monsters while in the field. These encounters are visible, and the player can opt to avoid the encounter, if possible, as well as gaining an edge on the monsters by approaching them from behind.

  • @Lerichem Experience points are awarded to all members of the party, though at a reduced rate for those not involved in combat, and characters will improve in various statistics with each experience level as well as learning special combat skills. Weapons, armor, and accessories can be used to improve these statistics, which can be purchased through money earned in combat, found in chests, or by selling both equipment and photographs which can be taken by the character Beat during battle.

  • @Lerichem: If that isn't enough for you....then you are brain dead.

  • @Eternalsummersong Over two posts of text do not make you right. Eternal Sonata is not an RPG, it is an adventure. With this logic, so are many other "RPGs" that society plays. Getting items and abilities is very general. Role-Playing implies that you make a moral choice that impacts story. I could as much avoid a guard in Assasin's Creed than a monster in Eternal Sonata. Think about Role-Playing in general. How often do you write about your actions as opposed to your choices.

  • @Lerichem:.....What are you TALKING about?! Most RPG do this! The Star Ocean series does the exact same thing. So does Chrono trigger and Chrono cross and Fable. Eternal Sonata IS an RPG. Look it up on Amazon and game stop. Go look on Tri-Crescendo they are the ones who brought it over not only that but they created it. Call them liars if you want. I just told you it was in the RPG games. Because that is where it belongs.

  • @Lerichem: Actually It's action/RPG. Kind of like Kingdom Hearts. Only because you can move around on the battle field. Gaaa!! Why didn't I think of that! Sorry about that.

  • Comment removed

  • @Lerichem: Let's see you use items and you hit the monsters, your turn ends and they hit you. You level up the characters by fighting monsters you gain special moves

you. You equip your characters with weapons and clothes. It's an RPG. That is what you DO in RPG games. Tell you what go to Amazon or Gamestop and see what type of game it is. It's under RPG. I'm the Queen of RPG's I even work at Gamestop for god's sake. On the computer It's under RPG. Is that Logical enough for you?

  • This game was a waste of time....very annoying and terrible ending.

  • slightly disappointed, was looking forward to gettin this,if its going for £10 or so then id pick it up,more than that tho,and i doubt it.

  • is this 2 player offline

  • @megaboomface

The game's two player. You an control different characters from the menu in game. They never addressed that in the review, that was pretty cool.-.-

It's in the Xbox version, IDK on the PS3 version.

  • Fun game, it is just linear to the extreame. Many towns you visit once or twice. The combat is the reason to buy the game. It is awesome.

  • omg great game i looved it some much i dont even rreally play call of duty or halo any more i just like RPGs this was my frist

  • Just get it online at Play-Asia, fast shipping to North America

    h t t p : / / w w w .play-asia.c o m /SOap-23-83-g4gg-71-bp-49-en-84-j-70-2zs5.h t m l

  • For 10€ I'll give it a shot

  • This game cannot be reviewed like this. It's something else, almost like ico or shadow of the colossus. It's a magnificent game.

  • if all reviewers were god at games itd be harder to review... they obv have to be like the regular joe

  • amazing game but sometimes it gets wayyyy too gay and emo for me. the beginning is hilarious!

  • Got it last week for $20. Can't complain!

  • @ausSocceroos I recommend Enchanted Arms just in case

  • @ausSocceroos lucky! the gamestop near my house is selling for 35$

  • OMG why do ALL reviewers SUCK at video games?

  • They don't

  • They don't play all games for hours they got loads to review they can't spend too much time playing every single game they review.

  • @TheNobody96 they just said the end gets crazy....i think that means that played it

  • @pyrlcaster

Maybe they skipped some? Developers can let them do that, they want them to give it good reviews so they will skip to the good bits.

  • true but ES was released a year before TOV

  • I Love this game soo much :D

  • this llok like a game im going to love

  • the guy who is playing for this review completely sucks at the game

  • yeah, since all reviewers suck at games

  • this game is pretty good really good story and gameplay very good rpg but its a little bit short

  • what you can switch the voices to japanese? i have do to it immediately!

  • Are you asking how? Just press triangle and go to Options.

  • LOL!

  • awesome game. i love the gameplay and the soundtrack. and loved how they put the life of chopin in the game, learned alot.! :D

  • I uplaoded the soundtrack =D

  • Saying "the story is too blunt" with its themes is not a valid criticism. It is painfully obvious that the reviewer just disagreed with the "moral values" which the game "preached." What's wrong with preaching when it's done in artistic fashion? That's the point. And if you really appreciated the message, you wouldn't be complaining about it.

  • I might pick this up seeing as i just beat Tales of Vesperia and that was an amazing game. This has some similarities to it. Anyone played both and enjoyed both?

  • this is a great game. after beating Tales, this MAY seem like a tiny step back but I loved it from start to finish.

  • Eternal sonata is a beautiful RPG but IMO Tales of vesperia is better.

I just hate how ES is soooo linear.

  • best jrpg ever

  • what ever markii, many final fantasys, Dragon Quests, and others are better and have much more meat and depth to them, this is a good game tho

  • it is only my opinion then ;-)

  • After Dragon Quest Vlll =P

But Eternal Sonata is also great!

  • this game was a double-edged sword for me. though i loved the storyline and it has a beautiful soundtrack and graphics system, the story was almost too linear for me. i'd rather take a break to do some extra fighting or some side quests here or there. i felt none of that in the game.

also, i love cutscenes, as i think they are imperative to developing the story, but this game went WAY overboard. i didn't buy the game to watch a movie.

it's a good game, but it really has its flaws.

  • Whats wrong with teenagers saving the world? We teens are better minded then you adults.

  • dumbass.

  • well, that's what jrpg's are about. lol

    it is redundant tho

  • gat game plade it 4 times

  • I love this game XDDD I know it's not bright new.. but it's not long since i got it ö beacuse i live in norway and.. well... somethimes .. things who are new there.. isn't new in other lands D: x'D but I finisted the game two days ago and .. i loved it T_T I cryed truth the hole last chapter and ending xD lolz ... ye ye .. the voices are so MUCH bether in hapanese! the english voices are not that fun to listen to ; D

  • I love the fact that it's got a great battle system that keeps things interesting, as most rpg's fail miserably in this category. It just sucks that for one area to shine, it seems another must suffer. I wish more game publishers allowed their designers enough time to really make their games shine. It just seems like most games that come out these are rushed out, and end up lacking the gameplay value of older games for older consoles because the designers simply don't have enough time.

  • u suck to >:3

  • only becase u cant play it XD

  • i started playing more rpg games when i got lost odyssey, unlike all the shooting games i have, ive played lost odyssey over and over about 5 times now, and after i finish a FPS game i just get too bored with the same objectives and straight forward levels

  • He is definitely reading off a piece of paper XD

  • Indeed. x-plays reviews pwn all

  • It could be E-Ink like on a Kindle. Hard to tell.

  • lol

  • IF they fixed the dialog and delivery of all the cutscenes, this would be one of my favorite games. Great art, good music, really neat gameplay, and the plot itself is really good. BUT THE DELIVERY IS SO, SO, just...BAD. (And there's no camera. Wanna look around? Too bad.)There was a part where it took a character 30 seconds of silence to say "Hey, there's wind coming from over here." If you really want to see if this is your game, look up "eternal sonata longest death scene ever." it spoils, tho

  • I loved this game, this review is pretty accurate in my opinion. The battling can get pretty strenuous with the lack of enemy variety and battle arenas, but that is completely overshadowed by the games beauty. The soundtrack is one of the best I have ever heard.

  • the best RPGs have got to be the classic final fantasy games they are the masters of RPG games

  • The guys that made those old games created Mistwalker studeos and have released the brilliant Lost Odyssey - check it out if you havn't already.

  • i just bought this for 20 bucks used because after beating tales of vesperia it made me go rpg crazy so i started renting and buying a lot of them. tales of symphonia 2 sucked so i was hoping this would be good and it is. im on chapt 7 which is about 20 hours inand im loving it, you get party level ups which change the battle sytem each time to make it more chalenging and make your combos and moves stronger. the story is good and keeps you wondering what is going on.

  • Not bad, I haven't beat Tales of Vesperia yet, but i saw this game for $10 on amazon. I had to buy it lol.

  • OMG SAME HERE!.. Except for the buying eternal sonata part..after tov and star ocean 3...man i started going krzy for them XD

I played Last Remnant,Enchanted Arms, and Tales Of Vesperia So far for 360...i cant make a decision if i should get this game or star ocean 4....but my dad's cheap about this stuff especially star ocean 4..=(.....any opinion that can help me?

  • i say star ocean 4

  • thanks =)

  • or if you had a playstaion 2 or game cube

a must have is tales of symmphonia

  • I was thinking about getting this game, and I probably will. It's so unique and interesting. Plus I love classical music. Incorporating real life events into a fantasy RPG sounds so interesting. Hehe, I'm sure my music teacher would flip if I told him about this game.

  • wat changed was the ps3 version was all around bettr, but the game is shit

  • ign/ i don't think ign should review 360 games just like xbox magazine shouldn't review ps3 games.

  • i think tales of vesperia looks better

  • what changed betwen the ps3 and the xbox version

  • then u miss the best pat of the game

  • so what is it out of 10? cauze i might get it 4 christmas

  • What the point in such as useless comment?

  • hey cool, another game to stress me out on what i should buy when i get an xbox. fuck.

  • everyone is into Japanese RPG games...who isnt??? lol

  • I'm not usually but I don;t hate them

  • October 21st, right?

Omg, I can't wait. I hope the revamped the visuals and stuff to fit the PS3, too!

    AHH SO EXCITED!!

  • is this some kind of a sequal or something?

also, lols at the audio preview XD

  • im about to cry i cant wait for that game to come to the PS3

  • Me too. Got mine reserved and paid off. Along with LittleBigPlanet.

  • Can you pause in the cinematics?

I know, its a silly question but i need answers!

  • Yes you can. In every voiced cut scene.

  • the story went crazy at the end

  • i thought it was a fit ending

  • Lost Odyssey is far better, but its still not bad.

  • I can't wait until it comes out for Playstation 3

  • same i hate how we had to wait this long everyone knows this was also coming to the ps3 so i hate how they must wait like a whole year

  • dood the story line is so fucking hard to get! and there are akward pauses throughout the dialogue

  • as you can see, many games are made in Japan with Japanese voices. This happens to be one of them. Because this is America, they dub it in English so you can understand it. (No offence to anyone who likes the English voices but they tend to ruin many great games. I simply can't stand them. Sorry for ranting.)

  • im getting this for 30 bucks tomorrow

  • I have played for about 8 hours now in total and i think its too easy untill now. Now I'm avoiding foe's so i won't level up as much, so its not hard

  • is this game hard?

  • d story is excellent if u keep track of it, but, that being said, keeping track of d story is also pretty challenging due to d long stretch of d game and d side stories of each characters....

  • i don't know what is wrong with you, but i hate you.

  • FINALLY a good RPG for the 360. after playin Gears, Bioshock, n Dead Rising, i cant wait to play a RPG :] i might get Mass Effect next or maybe Assasins Creed...

  • cant go wrong with those two

  • did that fish just turn into a scorpion...

  • looks really gd, hope it lives up to the final fantasy games on playstation

  • i think it actually does and ime also a big fan of FF and i really enjoy this RPG

  • How amazingly helpful...

  • it looks ok i might get it anyone have it?

  • i have it, and it is awesome

  • Yea I have it, I got it 2 days ago. It is way cool, if you played FABLE you'll like this. The combat system is different but pretty fun and challenging. Whats more cool the cinematic clips are quite long. Sometimes it feels your watching a great cartoon. I returned my BLUE DRAGON for this

  • I NEED THIS GME SSOOOO BLOODE BADLE

  • beatiful...
